I own an auto shop, I don’t think there will be a recall for the 10R80. Recalls usually only happen for safety issues. If a recall happens it will likely be a software recall. I have had 20 to 1 6L80 transmissions that are in the Silverado and Tahoe to fail vs any other transmission. The predecessor to the 10R80 was the 6R80 which was an excellent transmission in my experience. It got a software recall for the lead frame shorting and causing the transmission to downshift at high speeds but no transmission recall. There are the occasional “customer satisfaction” recalls but I don’t see that happening with an entire transmission, instead, I could see a warranty extension on them, mainly a drum issue and programming issues. I own a 10R80 in an expedition Max limited. It’s different for sure but not bad, I wished they would have just stayed with the 6R80
That trans is the reason I had to step away from F1150. After 2 eco boom rebuilds due to cam phasers I was going to go 5.0. Then my trans shit the bed. I couldnt even find a dealer that wasnt swamped with them. At 62k miles it needed a new trans that was covered under extended but none available. Traded the truck for f250 while the 150 was in the shop.
In December of 2023 my 2018 F150 started slipping and skipping gears. Luckily I bought the extended warranty. Got the transmission replaced, note they don’t put in a brand new transmission they put in a refurbished one with all new internals from what they claim. 3 weeks ago my replacement transmission started slipping again. Brought the truck back in last week and they told me it needs to be replaced and it hasn’t even been a year with this replacement. They stated the CDF was updated and If it was then what cause the 2nd failure? A bit frustrating.
My 2020 with 83k is having the transmission rebuilt right now. It had to come out at 30k for a bad torque converter also. These 10 speeds are a nightmare if you dont have a warranty. I sure hope Ford steps up to the plate on this and doesn't keep ignoring it.
I think they should have rebuilds on the shelf with an upgraded drum but considering how they handled the 5.4 phaser issue. ie only changing the defective phaser(s) with the original design ones instead of the updated caged spring design so they didn’t have to throw away the parts they already made and then waiting for the warranty to go out then when you come back for the same issue and then it’s customer pay job and then selling the updated part(s) then so they re cooped from the warranty job. So I predict they will put the original design drum in effected units under warranty then when you’re warranty expires and your footing the bill they will sell you an upgraded drum. They need to update their drum because to the best of my knowledge there is only aftermarket drums that are upgraded currently and they fly off the shelves.
Hey my F150 is at the Ford dealership for this exact problem as we speak. Its been there for over a week. They said protocol was to open the transmission up and do what’s necessary.I haven’t got the full report I will be calling Monday morning to see what’s up.They gave me free loner truck also. Also my truck is under warranty too it’s only 11,000 miles on 2021
I've heard of many class action lawsuits concerning this issue and actually received paperwork in the mail asking if I am interested in participating. Considering that I haven't experienced any problems at that time with my 2019 F-150, I declined. I have not heard of any rumblings of a any kind of recall. I tend to agree with the previous comment that there probably isn't going to be a recall unless it becomes a safety issue.
Me too, I haven't heard one thing about a recall. Esp for just a part wearing out that doesn't cause any deaths. That's usually what has to happen is there usually has to be a significant safety issue
I rented a transit 150 for a day with a 10sp, drove it about 500 miles. It seemed to be decent, it had some clunkyness occasionally especially if you floored it at faster speeds where it had to downshift significantly. The van also seemed to make a howling noise at highway speeds😂. Not sure what might have been happening there but overall it was a nice little van
I just had the CDF drum and 2 clutch packs replaced on my 2019 F-150 with 76K miles, under extended warranty. The service writer told me it was an $8500 job.
I have a 2023 ford mustang Mach 1 bought it brand new with 12 miles and has the 10r80 10 speed automatic transmission. Doesn’t even have 10,000 miles currently at 9,000 just took it in for service and they say they can’t find anything wrong with it cause there aren’t any codes pulling up 🤦♂️ also that it’s normal and I’m like that’s not normal cause car drove amazing when I first got it. It’s also idling at 1,000rpm throughout the whole day. I understand in the morning for cold start but not everytime I turn it on throughout the day. It has also idled at that then the whole car would shake then shutoff. Feeling very frustrated cause I love the car and ford but has got to the point that I hate driving it. Would trade it in but would be so upside down that it isn’t even funny and not cool to just pass it onto someone else. Wish they would just figure this shit out cause it isn’t normal.
With the updated CDF drum and anodized can, does this solve most issues? What about valve body failure? And at an owner cost of $8-10K to rebuild there should be some compensation on parts labor .
2019 F150 w/70k started slipping now that ive only got 2 payments unitil paid off. I'm selling a 30k+ (retail) truck for 12 to 15k just to get it out of my hair. They took such a big hit on the EVs it's probably next to impossible for them to do the right thing at this point.?
I bought my f150 brand new 2018. At 30k miles they had to replace it. Cost was just above $10k. Now at 45k miles it’s starting to do hard down shifts and issues with 4th and 6th gear. CDF drum issues. My warranty expired and I’m shit out of luck. I shouldn’t have to pay $10k due to a factory defect. I’ve never hauled anything and don’t drive it hard. Just my reg daily driver and these transmissions just straight up suck. I payed $60k for this truck. There shouldn’t be any reason what so ever for this transmission to be such garbage on such an expensive truck. BTW, I do have friends that have had the same issues with their GM and Chevy trucks. It’s just not as Common of an issue as it is for the Ford. When mine was getting replaced, I had to wait for a month because they had 6 other f150s in line waiting for a new transmission. 🎉They should def do a recall and fix it. Do right by their costumers.
Bought my Coyote 2019 F150 at 10k miles. Boy was that a screwup. 15k flashed, 20k new valve body, 25k reflashed, 30k pulled and CDF drum replaced. Has 50k on it now and still shifts terrible. Thank god I bought a Ford warranty. Waiting for it to go again, along with this oil consuming 5.0.
I can't believe Ford is spending all this money trying temporary fixes and not actually fixing the problem. Honestly, that doesn't make any sense. Plus I would guess, they will prob lose a lot of customers after this. I mean like all of their vehicles for the last 5 years all have these 10r80's, literally all of those cars will be junk.

Ive found on my 10r80 f150 is that in normal mode it shifts smooth through all gears but in eco mode it has cluncks and delays between gears 1-5. Anyone elses dose that?
Mine was 2019 f150 2.7 w/ 10r80 110k and I luckily got extended warranty because two months after I got it I took it in for weird clunk when I would put it in drive or put it in park. Also shifted fine in normal mode but my sport mode had hard shifts more often then not 3to 4 and 4 to 3 , they replaced the whole thing. Still driving through my “adaptive learning” thing but overall it’s better. (Fuel pump went a week later) not covered… $1500 🫠
Mine was replaced at 30k and I always drove it eco mode. Once replaced, I always drove it normal mode thinking that it might’ve been driving eco mode but now at 45k miles the replaced transmission is starting to have CDF drum issues again. The modes in my experience didn’t matter. The transmission just sucks. I’ve also dealt with oil consumption issue.
