this is typical CC fanfic myth. the WNBA has been growing it's audience for over a decade, especially since they set-up their own league pass, which made it accessible to many viewers without local and cable TV restrictions, and overseas (like me, for example).
you have to factor in that women's sports in general are ignored. with the exception of phenomenal talents like Serena Williams, for example, all sports channels focus almost exclusively on men's sports, at way less impressive levels (junior high flag football - WTF? - instead of women's soccer or basketball), to the detriment of women's professional sports in every sport that women play.
the WNBA also had 10,000+ ticket sales in arenas before Clark -- 2023: Aces (10,191), Mercury (14,040), Sparks (10,396) & Storm (13,213) -- but there's no doubt that she's had an other level effect, despite the denialism of ESPN pundits and others. the Clark boost is just what the league needed, but it has had many greats over the years, several of whom are clearly Clark's own idols and inspiration.

      > I would pick CC over Wilson every day to start a new team.
As would I. But that is because of Clark’s youth and the fact that her ceiling is so much higher.
While I am of the belief that Clark is the GOAT of women’s college ball and will one day be the GOAT of the WNBA, she is not the best player just yet.
Hmmm, if these last two games (post break) are any indicator, I might be misspeaking. Allow me to amend…
Pre Olympic break, A’ja Wilson is/was the clear front runner for MVP and the most dominant force in the WNBA.
That said, Clark is rapidly closing the gap. In two (post break) games vs the Storm and the Mercury (both winning clubs) Clark is averaging 26 points and nearly ten assists, to go along with five rebounds.
Clark is, hands down, the most well rounded player in the league. If these last two games are the “new normal” for Clark, as opposed to a mere “surge”, then I am willing to compare Clark favorably to Wilson. This is particularly true in light of what I just witnessed Wilson do against the Lynx last night.
At this point in time, I still say Wilson is the more dominant force and leading in the MVP race. However, it ain’t over ‘til it’s over.
Clark is building a strong case for MVP. Lotta basketball left to play. Wilson and the Aces will be visiting Gainbridge field house for back to back tilts in September. Both Indiana and Vegas will be jockeying for playoff position. I believe the MVP question will be settled there.
And who knows? Maybe we will be blessed with a Fever vs Aces playoff series. Fingers crossed.

Then as someone alluded about that being how Steph looks too with shots looking ill advised or out of range yet they still go in way too often and way too consistent for luck. There's gotta be some kind of magic goin on that I don't even think the legends really understand. Steph was like that too with some kind of magic that no one understood but Caitlin even more so. Could some kind of factor like what made Jerry West great figure in? I always believed Jerry had an influence on Steph. Dagger mentality is the type of thing that is contagious, I know I've caught that bug myself in another sport. But then even if it all came from one person alone sometime out of the blue you can remember that groove and how to get there.

Really you need proof??? What is school teaching these days??????????
OK,,, grab a beer and sit back.
The really, really incredibly simple version is they (science) reckoned they can show that that 3.5 billion yrs ago the first known life appeared on earth, we have fossil information (that and old wives tales). it is single cell and aquatic. (all of which are egg laying)
So nothing before 3.5 billion years, and everything after that point. Kind of makes 3.5 the kicking off point.
Then roughly 3 billion yrs later, or if you like roughly around 420 million yrs ago we record out first fish. (egg layers) I bet you can see where I’m going with this.
Then a little later (375) the first amphibians. (egg layers)
Then a little later (350) the first reptiles. (egg layers)
Then a little later (325) the first dinosaurs both land and water living, (both reptile so egg layers), along with the first mammals (which obviously evolved from? Yep you guessed it one hundred million years of egg layers).
Egg layers were around for about 200 million year before the first birds, which appeared about 160 million yrs ago.
So no matter how you want to slice and dice it the “none plant” world was 100% egg layers for around 260 million years before the first Bird.
So my guess is the egg came first.
Then you can add on to all that the fact that female mammals carry “””EGGS””” to be fertilised by sperm.
So it is eggs all day long.
Unless of course you are a creationist and think 160 million years ago some omnipotent entity was tired of eggs and just pulled that very first bird from their ass and said here have a bird.
I could have simply said birds evolved from egg laying reptiles but where’s the fun in that?? 😁😁😁

this last part by Magic got old fast. 2 weeks on, the Fever are over 500 & have a solid grip on a playoff spot for the first time in years; CC & Kelsey Mitchell are leading them to a whole other level of hard playing, fast running, great passing offense that is seriously challenging even the best WNBA teams.
the Fever are clearly playing for each other, and having fun doing it. their combined talents are breaking down defenses, especially in the 4th qtr. they are on fire right now. what's more, their rookie superstar is on track to break the all time season assist record.
could Caitlin Clark do what Magic did and win Finals MVP as a rookie?? - it's tough to beat any team in the top 4. i got them going to the semis, but the Fever just might be the craziest underdog surprise in a decade.

    FUN FACTS:
    • Larry Bird scored 60 points against the Atlanta Hawks in New Orleans on March 12, 1985. (Three point line in effect).
    • Michael Jordan scored 63 points against the Celtics in Boston on April 20, 1986. (Three point line in effect).
    • Pistol Pete Maravich scored 68 points against the NY Knicks in the Superdome at New Orleans on February 2, 1977 before he fouled out. The three point line was not in effect. Think about that.
PPM was an innovator of the game. His ball handling was supreme, second to none. His passing, absolutely stellar. Many of the moves to the basket created by PPM are still being used by players in the NBA today. Maravich was 20 years ahead of his time.
Maravich was born with a congenital heart defect and he played with that bad heart his entire life until his retirement. That defective heart ended his life at the age of 40.
The three point line was not implemented into the NBA until the 1979-1980 season and it was done as an experiment.

I really like Caitlyn Clark but she honestly never broke his record because if you took all of her three-pointers and put them as two-pointers because no matter whether he was shooting from the half-court line which he did he was only getting two points for that shot so if you make it equal make all of her three-pointers into two pointers she did not come close to Breaking Pistol Pete's record because there was no three-point shots during his time of playing or he would have just destroyed anything anybody could ever accomplish he made so many shots from right at the half court line if you've ever watched his old videos you would see that so if it is 2-pointers which is all they had during his era and you put her at two pointers every three she ever made she did not even come close not within more than a thousand points of coming close to his record and this is not a knock against her it is just being fair until the 80s sometimes there was not a three-point shot I remember because I graduated in 82 and there was no three-point shot and when I played college ball for 4 years it was just fixing to start I think in the last part of 86 and then 87 is when it started in college ball so Pete Maravich record would still stand buy well over a thousand points I think what Caitlin Clark has done has been great but if you go by actual shots made because they were all two pointers back when Pete played if you take her threes and make them into twos she would not come within a thousand points of his record that's just the truth
