I like how you list the different wood species through parts of the videos. Some wood species aren't as common elsewhere and tree species often look different from limb wood to truck sections, or in different stages of maturity 👍
Chris, your tractor skills are getting really good, loading the bin and pushing the wood back and higher without breaking anything is an art... looking good pal!!!

A). No such thing as too much wood! Lol. I love it, when I get into a bunch of small diameter "one poppers". Crack! Done. Crack! Done. That, and they usually tend to be straiter grained, and eady splitting- unless thete's a knot or crotch. If i can, i'll often cut that part out, and make it the cut off. Or just make a shorty or two- all i care about is that it fits in my grill, and that i have enough 15" min pieces to cover the bottom and ends of my racks. ( 14" wide Wood Havens. Too short, and they fall through the gap). Obviously, you need yours all close to the same size. For me, it's not worth the extra work to try and split a gnarly crooked limb, just for the sake of having all "correct length" pieces. Also, the half rounds stack well, and work well with log cabin style fire lays.
Surprised you dont have a gazebo or similar to pop up over the splitter when you are going to be there a while. Even a big beach umbrella that attaches to the splitter would give you a bit of shade when needed.
Thanks for the informational videos. I have 2 cords that have been seasoning all summer on black top. I had a bunch of black ants come out of a log and saw a few others crawling in the area. Has anyone ever fumigated a wood pile under a tarp? Wondering if several big bombs would do the trick ? Thanks.
Hey Chris! Better to have too much than not enough! Is there going to be a Black Friday special on mixed hardwoods coming up?😆Thanks for another great video! Take care!
I think I am going crazy or at least don't have far to go. I spent the morning making a video splitting firewood until it got too hot. Now I am in front of a fan, having a cold drink and watch a video of you splitting firewood lol
I wonder if you took that Satan would split it an inch and a half square drive it in around your beaver sets. They'll think they're at fast food takeout. Just wondering. Kenny from Western North Carolina.
Great Video Chris but I have a question. I see you Lube the table but I have never seen you lube the shaft. Just wonder if you lube that as well for protection. Come to think of it I see others show lubing their table but never lubing their shaft. Cheers
@@InTheWoodyard I know but I am assuming others wonder when they saw the same thing But for S and Giggles I thought it would put a smile on a face with the way I asked it. Smiles
I believe there may be a problem with your splitter. It appears the push plate is loose. There is a lot of movement at the end of the stroke. The plate tilts at the end. Under pressure. the more pressure the more it tilts makes me think the bolt that keeps it on the ram is loose, or the bolt is eroded from all the movement, or the hole it goes through is elongated. all fixable ( some easier than others) and its not a safety thing but a longevity thing. I believe you have worked that little eastonmade beyond what it was designed for. which is a god thing. I do miss the chains sawing days though...
Yup, it has been loose for over a year ...it is from wear. It still works. I just cut with chain saws for 2 days , videos will be on in a couple weeks.
Chris - Are you still putting just oak on the one end of the new bin ? If so just white oak ? Thought I saw you putting some split Red oak in the bucket along with the cottonwood for the mixed hardwood section of the bin ? Thnx…🤙🏻
1. All wood burns. 2. Cottonwood would be very low on my list for heating wood. 3. Find out what is the better wood available in your area and try to get that....
Chris I have a dumb question that you've probably answered many times before but why when you split a log in half and re-split into quarter do you not put the log split to split? You almost always have the logs split face up. Just a curious question. Always enjoy watching you cut and split those logs. Thank you.
I am going to state to obvious, your material handling equipment needs to have greater horizontal and verticle reach for the drying/storage bins you have invented to make your operation more efficient. This attention to efficiency and ease will/would allow you to maintain your operation which obvious to me you deeply enjoy much longer as you age. Further by being able to utilize your wood bins more fully loading them to the stack side angle of 30-34 degrees (angle of repose for free stacked materials) you will need much less land to achieve the same or greater firewood storage denisity. This extra space could be used to accumulate and store more un-split raw materials when the costs were to your advantage. Plus the equipment would be more fun to operate while increasing your dollar sales per man hour which can assist in justifying the capital expense, which for me and my hobbies capital costs was/were never the main focal point rather can I afford the outlay? I am thankful for the regularity and tempo of your videos which have over time become an enjoyable part of my normal morning routine. Thank you again! Ray
@@iffykidmn8170 Yes, however I was thinking of the times spent unloading the tractor skid steer when split wood is loaded into the tractor/skid steer bucket and then unloaded directly into the bins used for drying/storage. However the converor that's used for times spent splitting firewood when close to a bin is perfect whereas this suggestion was for splitting that is done away from the bins further than the conveyor can reach. Chris, I mounted a tube on my splitter that I can put a beach umbrella into. Instant shade!
smart...!!1 Shade is very important.....hard to find a shade tree.... haha

When the wood is real dry they will leave...they need moisture.

What is the best year not money but year you have had selling firewood ?
I am not sure....I have had several years selling over 200 full cords...that is all I had time for.

The hydraulic rod has oil on the inside of the cylinder for pressure and lube, no need for more oil.

What makes it so stringy? Is the grain real tight?
Elm has very tight wrapped grain that hold like cable or rope...it is how God made it!
