      Not anymore. Social Security was merged into the General Funds by GOP. That's why they're constantly trying to end the best anti poverty program in our history. Elders after a lifetime of work should not be eating dog food! Disabled and Developmental Disabilities, our elderly and the weak deserve our protection!!! Morally and ethically the right thing to do.

The US is already a currency sovereign, so we can spend all that our economy will support and paper deficts won't hurt us. The reason for raising taxes is to improve our GINI coefficient so as to avoid social unrest.

    If Republicans were genuinely concerned about debt, they would never have allowed Bush to eliminate the PAYGO rule in 2002. Even with a Republican-controlled House and Senate in 2002, Bush managed to get rid of it. The reality is that America has accumulated a staggering $30 trillion in debt since the PAYGO rule was eliminated.

    OMG. A Republican Representative who makes sense and speaks plainly. I wish that more congressmen were as clear about the working processes in the House on both sides. In addition, although he was a Brigadier General, he understands that government function differently than the military. He brings good experience with Foreign Policy. I was pleasantly surprised.

    So much discretionary spending is military spending as well... It's time we clean up our military spending .. this needs to be first! We need to get Congress members conflict of interests investments out as well. Bloated defense is choking everything! Vets should have the best health care in the world, appropriate gear...     What we do have in the UK parliamentary process is a speaker in the house of commons that is respected by all parties. MP's have to tell the truth in the chamber and in committees. Failure to do this can lead the the person being suspended from their party. They will also have to verbally apologise to the house and explain what the truth is. There are any number of people who will 'out' the lies.
