I used to live in Apple Valley (my mom still does). In 1998-1999 I would drive that back way up every weekend to do computer work for Big Bear. Would do computer upgrades for a lot of the resorts getting them modems & connected online to reservation systems.

Thank you very much Wesley and yes, it is so easy to drive. Obviously, I suggest that people drive it in the middle of the day when our temperatures get above freezing, because some of that melting snow will refreeze in the road at night and some of those turns are sharp and steep. That's why I can no longer get up the hill or any other resident. Our store we lost. Plus I haven't had my road plowed since last weekend Also you can't get up or down our deck or stairs barely. Snow up to the roof of our house can't even see looking out the windows. My carport is falling down and split down the middle. No help much. But glad you're doing so well there Nikk!

Oh my gosh! What a cool trip. We used to travel that trip from Big Bear to Lucerne Valley all the time. The road hasn't changed a bit in 30 years! I always got car sick right about where you honked the horn. By the time we got to the bottom I was hanging my head out the window like a dog cuz I was so sick. 😂

I saw a video plea for people to drive up to Big Bear with food and supplies to help the residents, since no helicopters are allowed. Saw that some local shops had collapsed roofs.
My Goodness Nikk it’s been a hot mess over on my side of Crestline many streets still not plowed and the locals stuck down the hill please let me know if on your side the highway is open to come up, It’s been 2 weeks now this has gone way to long and who ever is in charge is a huge disappointment. The county truly let us down!
My good friend Brenda, will you watch the video right? I was able to get up and down no problem. I just had to show a picture ID when I was coming back up. That’s what this video is all about showing you guys that there is a way up the mountain but unfortunately not for tourists only for people like you and myself the locals. I’m really incredibly amazed how hammered you guys got over there but on this drive as I said, if you actually watched the video, you’ll be so surprised how little snow there was I think you would truly think it was a different mountain range Brenda lol But I’m always here to help and give as much information that I can but in the meantime, I just want you to continue to stay strong try not to get too frustrated with the inept governor and the county I know they declared a state of emergency, but it just doesn’t look like much is being done in a timely fashion, but at the same time, I don’t want to discourage them because I know a couple people that have been part of the cleanup efforts I hope you take care of my friend and please stay strong. You are such a good friend and I just want you to be OK and I can promise you one thing as the days go by. Things are definitely gonna get a lot better much faster. Another great video Nikk..The Lucerne Valley way is the route we always took from Palmdale..The only exception was our first trip to Blue Jay in 01 or 02. Gonna try doing a visit this summer..My wife loved Big Bear..😊
Even though it looks okay I don't know that such a small Road used by such traffic as attempting to approach Main Road serviceability would be like trying to get to South Shore ski areas by going all the way around and then back up out of 395 up the backside out of Nevada if the South Shore equivalent synonymous,,, especially with supply chain Riggs would have to be 28 rather than 53 Switchback Road corners

Be a good idea to pack your vehicle with any supplies from any areas I don't know about the shopping probabilities where you were going but try and figure out logistics as well to cover multiple bases
It doesn't really shake on the mount. If it it does it's very minimal. Be safe. Besides there probably is a stabilizer of some sort in the video setting. Loved seeing the desert and how little snow there was on the ride compared to the higher elevation.
As you first descend down to the desert floor if you look to your right at the bottom of the mountain is Cactus Flats were my pops used to take me to ride my dirt bike go further down turn right at Camp Rock Rd go down and across the 247 on Camp Rock and that was another place he took me riding The Mitsubishi cement plant at the bottom of the hill used to be owned by Pfizer Corporation

There’s an avalanche danger on the 38 and 330/18. The rim of the world had a few avalanches and there are some places with 20 feet of snow. Most of the residential streets are blind one-ways with 4-8 foot berms. It’s slushy conditions on a lot of streets. Personally, there’s no way I would have been able to shovel myself out, my plow guy had to come in with a bob cat to remove 5 feet of snow off my driveway and walk way. The blizzard has been a wild ride.
I have a cousin and his wife that live in Arrowhead. He waited in line for diesel fuel for 7 hours the other day. They need to get to the store but am afraid to leave the house.
The other day you did a video where you went to the end of the lake or dam up in Big Bear. You showed one road when you did the turn-around. Was that 18, and how is that section that you were at? That road looked like it was in the middle of ALASKA or something is was so snow covered

Yes, that was Highway 18 that was right where you enter the big Bear Valley and as far as the eye can see there was 4 feet of snow untouched, which is why I realized at that point why nobody is being let up here because they have a lot of work to do before the tourist come up here, and kind of get in the way of the crews trying to fix everything and get everything ready for the people to come up It’s unbelievable I was not expecting to see that Great question dag. Hey my friend ram so that’s a great question everything is really low but we are getting shipments so we aren’t out of anything. It’s just stuff isn’t as wider variety as usual. I was able to get gas again last night since I eat really crap food I’m always eating fast food and using coupons all the time so I don’t really know what the grocery store has but I know they’ve been getting small shipments and unfortunately a lot of the really humongous trucks cannot make it up the back of Highway 18 because of the triple switch back so that for the gas trucks coming up I think it’s only the single tanker trucks but it’s really answer your question. I’m not sure to be honest ram. I really do appreciate that you care so much you have been so good to me and so kind and so loving. Hi Diana unfortunately Highway 18 on the other side is completely shut down and they haven’t even touched the highway with any heavy equipment or anything. There’s 4 feet of snow still covering the whole highway it’s unbelievable I never imagined it would be like that so this is the only possible way up and down into big bear but it’s only possible to come up if you are a resident and improve it with a picture ID and an address on the ID I appreciate your question I wish I could give you a better answer but unfortunately this is the only route available and people have to drive all the way around the mountain range to get there Also, on March 10 it’s my 43rd birthday and I’m gonna do an all day live feed with you guys because I want to celebrate my birthday with you all because I love you all so much and you guys make me feel so good that would be the best birthday gift ever to spend time with you guys and if you do hop on for a little bit, I think you’ll really enjoy the community that’s full of so many sweet, loving people, and you seem like one of those people

So you’re looking down into Lucerne Valley at the very beginning of the video this is Highway 18 on the backside of the San Bernardino Mountains. It drops you off in Lucerne Valley and then depending on which direction you go you’ll hit Joshua tree and Yucca Valley or the other direction you’ll hit Apple Valley and Victorville That’s a great question I apologize I thought I had explained in the video what we were looking at so forgive me I’ll try to do better next time I really will. I used to live in Apple Valley (my mom still does). In 1998-1999 I would drive that back way up every weekend to do computer work for Big Bear. Would do computer upgrades for a lot of the resorts getting them modems & connected online to reservation systems.

No special equipment meaning, no snow tires or tire chains will be necessary to get here I’m assuming you’re referring to the next few days or week
Keep in mind we do get snow until mid to late May sometimes but usually that snow does not stick for long at all. Usually it’s melted within a day or two.

Thank you very much Wesley and yes, it is so easy to drive. Obviously, I suggest that people drive it in the middle of the day when our temperatures get above freezing, because some of that melting snow will refreeze in the road at night and some of those turns are sharp and steep.

That's why I can no longer get up the hill or any other resident. Our store we lost. Plus I haven't had my road plowed since last weekend Also you can't get up or down our deck or stairs barely. Snow up to the roof of our house can't even see looking out the windows. My carport is falling down and split down the middle. No help much. But glad you're doing so well there Nikk!

Oh my gosh! What a cool trip. We used to travel that trip from Big Bear to Lucerne Valley all the time. The road hasn't changed a bit in 30 years! I always got car sick right about where you honked the horn. By the time we got to the bottom I was hanging my head out the window like a dog cuz I was so sick. 😂

My good friend Brenda, will you watch the video right? I was able to get up and down no problem. I just had to show a picture ID when I was coming back up. That’s what this video is all about showing you guys that there is a way up the mountain but unfortunately not for tourists only for people like you and myself the locals.
I’m really incredibly amazed how hammered you guys got over there but on this drive as I said, if you actually watched the video, you’ll be so surprised how little snow there was I think you would truly think it was a different mountain range Brenda lol
But I’m always here to help and give as much information that I can but in the meantime, I just want you to continue to stay strong try not to get too frustrated with the inept governor and the county I know they declared a state of emergency, but it just doesn’t look like much is being done in a timely fashion, but at the same time, I don’t want to discourage them because I know a couple people that have been part of the cleanup efforts

Be a good idea to pack your vehicle with any supplies from any areas I don't know about the shopping probabilities where you were going but try and figure out logistics as well to cover multiple bases

As you first descend down to the desert floor if you look to your right at the bottom of the mountain is Cactus Flats were my pops used to take me to ride my dirt bike go further down turn right at Camp Rock Rd go down and across the 247 on Camp Rock and that was another place he took me riding
The Mitsubishi cement plant at the bottom of the hill used to be owned by Pfizer Corporation

There’s an avalanche danger on the 38 and 330/18. The rim of the world had a few avalanches and there are some places with 20 feet of snow. Most of the residential streets are blind one-ways with 4-8 foot berms. It’s slushy conditions on a lot of streets. Personally, there’s no way I would have been able to shovel myself out, my plow guy had to come in with a bob cat to remove 5 feet of snow off my driveway and walk way. The blizzard has been a wild ride.
I have a cousin and his wife that live in Arrowhead. He waited in line for diesel fuel for 7 hours the other day. They need to get to the store but am afraid to leave the house.
The other day you did a video where you went to the end of the lake or dam up in Big Bear. You showed one road when you did the turn-around. Was that 18, and how is that section that you were at? That road looked like it was in the middle of ALASKA or something is was so snow covered
Hey Dag. Yes, that was Highway 18 that was right where you enter the big Bear Valley and as far as the eye can see there was 4 feet of snow untouched, which is why I realized at that point why nobody is being let up here because they have a lot of work to do before the tourist come up here, and kind of get in the way of the crews trying to fix everything and get everything ready for the people to come up

Hey my friend ram so that’s a great question everything is really low but we are getting shipments so we aren’t out of anything. It’s just stuff isn’t as wider variety as usual.
I was able to get gas again last night since I eat really crap food I’m always eating fast food and using coupons all the time so I don’t really know what the grocery store has but I know they’ve been getting small shipments and unfortunately a lot of the really humongous trucks cannot make it up the back of Highway 18 because of the triple switch back so that for the gas trucks coming up I think it’s only the single tanker trucks but it’s really answer your question. I’m not sure to be honest ram.

Hey my brother personally I have absolutely no idea and don’t even know where to begin when it comes to thinking about it this situation up here has been so unprecedented that I have no clue never experienced anything even close to this, but I’ve been hearing people talking about the middle of the month which is really sad because a lot of the snow is going to be gone by that time. Just keep checking in and keep checking with Caltrans. I really want you guys to be able to come up here and enjoy the best snow conditions we’ve had in a half a century.

Hi Diana unfortunately Highway 18 on the other side is completely shut down and they haven’t even touched the highway with any heavy equipment or anything. There’s 4 feet of snow still covering the whole highway it’s unbelievable I never imagined it would be like that so this is the only possible way up and down into big bear but it’s only possible to come up if you are a resident and improve it with a picture ID and an address on the ID
I appreciate your question I wish I could give you a better answer but unfortunately this is the only route available and people have to drive all the way around the mountain range to get there

@@bonniewhillock3536 I heard something like that because a few of you who own homes up here were telling me that you really need to get up here to check out your houses and one of them told me that that’s all they had to do was have the name match the bill, but you might want to as Ronald Reagan said trust but verify because that would be a long drive to have to get turned around

So you’re looking down into Lucerne Valley at the very beginning of the video this is Highway 18 on the backside of the San Bernardino Mountains. It drops you off in Lucerne Valley and then depending on which direction you go you’ll hit Joshua tree and Yucca Valley or the other direction you’ll hit Apple Valley and Victorville That’s a great question I apologize I thought I had explained in the video what we were looking at so forgive me I’ll try to do better next time I really will.
