I saw this on television with my dad the night it premiered in 1978. It scared 6-year-old me witless but my dad enjoyed it. Two years later my dad and I traveled overseas for my throat operation and we saw it at the cinema when they decided to show the full 2-hour movie there as a treat. By then I had become a big fan of the show, which would end two years later. Forget the modern versions, THIS Hulk will always be the best. The late Bill Bixby was the most perfect 100% casting as Dr. David Banner and Lou Ferrigno - who now appears as nondescript characters in the new Hulk films - was the perfect Hulk. Now I have the entire series on DVD.

I would love to have the entire series on DVD and you are so right it was a great series. I watched it will my 3 year old daughter who didn't have a dad so whenever David became the Hulk she would hide behind the sofa but still peeping at him and her cheeks all red and point at him and say a funny word she made up for the word chest and giggle she was not used to seeing bare chested men:) And when the end came with the music it would make her cry because she thought it was so sad David walking there on his own. She loved him. When she was about 17 we went to see him in Sweden at a convention and she got his autograf (Lou's) but she didn't have the nerve to say anything to her all time hero. Sadly she lost the autographed picture at a move. Our favorite was Return of the Hulk as Thor was wonderful too and we watched the series for years. It's funny the warm happy feeling we get from certain tv memories:) cheers from Denmark!

I absolutely agree. Bixby/Ferrigno were better than the computer generated hulks. BUT, when they released this series on DvD, they should have remastered the Hulk Outs/ Transformations with modern computer generated effects.

I agree and I thought lou was a great hulk and to be honest its going to sound silly but when I was a young cub watching this the hulk kinda of scared me when the transformation was occurring and we see him rage out. All these years later when watching these clips I keep thinking I was such a pussy but if a 6.4 guy built like lou and looked the way he looked was towering over you maybe its not that far fetched.

This is still the best interpretation of the Incredible Hulk. The way David storms out of the laboratory after he believes the gamma dosage was a failure, was only the beginning for the rage to build within himself. Just brilliantly paced, atmospheric and suspenseful. The pilot feels less like a superhero movie and more like tragic gothic horror film!

5:20 you see a similar scene to this in the 2008 Incredible Hulk after he resuces betty. (and later when the Hulk shelters Betty and roars at the lightening felt abit similar to this inital change scene)
Also think maybe some of the 70s 'Rampaging Hulk' artwork covers were inspired by this sequence with the lightening etc (some of which im pretty sure were inspiration for various scnes in the 2008 Hulk film)

Im not sure if this is true or not, but i read somewhere that the dude playing the hulk, Lou Ferrigno, actually flipped that car by himself, because the hydraulic lift was too obvious in the shot.

The correct technique to have used was to pull up anti clockwise rather than trying to push down on the lug wrench.
David actually tries to do this after the hulk out trigger, but by then it was too late, Hulk was coming.

I'd like to read "Avengers watch and react" stories where they react to their "disco variants", cringing at Captain America, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man and Thor while have some deep feelings for this Banner/Hulk.
If there really is some out there reply this coment with links.
