How we set up our Plate Carriers - Tactical Tuesday

- This week for Tactical Tuesday we wanted to try something a little different. For this weeks video we wanted to share our plate carrier set ups and the reason behind why we have them set up the way we do. Coming from different back grounds David and Hunter both share their experiences with using plate carriers and share what items they have found to be useful and important to them.
We hope that with this style video you are able to sit back and listen to the discussion we would love to hear your feed back on whether or not you like this style of content and if you would enjoy more like it. David, I have Spinal Stenosis and a fused back. I "feel your pain"!!!😂 At this point I have to armor up and hope to be able to shelter in place with the good gear I have aquired to defend my wife and myself. I understand the whole mobility issue! Thank you both for a very insightful video!!

You guys are awesome! Especially with the contrasting experience and financial/ availability aspect. Top notch, actually. A bit too much waffling on matters with the knock off gear but IT IS perfect for guys ir gals getting into it.
One thing I can say is I like to have my IFAK loose and in hand meaning it's free float with a fanny pack / etc. I like to keep my support hand gear or IFAK/ booboo kit, NV, exhaust kit, etc on left hand. Right hand is strict engagement hand. Try a split hand set-up to see what helps YOU THE BEST. No setup is the end all be all.
Train in your gear, test it, wear it at home and weight train with it. It goes a very long way.

good vid. I'm building out a slick carrier as a civ around civil unrest+ scenarios. Planning the carrier as a standalone, aka no battle belt. Trying to decide how to balance a small gp pouch, ifak, maybe some pistol mags while being slick and concealable under a large/baggy hoodie or coat. grey manning between rioters if needed.
Thank you! One thing that may be a good option is to do something like the Trex Arms Plate Carrier with one of their chest rigs worn over top. That way if you need to go overt you can while wearing the chest rig, but if you need to go covert you can ditch the rig and just run some mags and a small ifak

Did you consider the Ferro Concepts Slickster?
@@RandomWrongDeletion i did originally. But it was out of stock when i was looking. During that time, Trex arms announced AC1, so I got that instead, as in stock and in my hands is better than not having one. I also like the multi-sized pockets for the cummerbund
Former Navy Corpsman here. My 2 cents: Don't give away your IFAK, it's for you. The team corpsman can't carry enough gear to treat everyone, that's why you have the IFAK.
If you believe it's the right thing to have medical gear for others, carry some extra items in pockets or wherever you can.
Everyone that owns a plate carrier/ chest rig/ battle rattle should have an IFAK. It's non negotiable.

I got a pew tactical replica of an fcpcv5 I live in europe and retailers here give crazy prices (I've seen a ferro sling being sold for 257 bucks) and I'm happy with it, velcro is perfect
David, what admin pouch are you running? I need one that is low profile like that for my JPC

My dad was a professional diesel mechanic. He told me "You never save money buying cheap tools". I've extended that to gear. I may not be able to afford the very best, but I buy very good and as good as I can possibly afford. My wife bitches, "It's just going to hang in the closet". I tell her "If I ever need it, it'll pay for itself, first time. And I do train with my gear on for familiarization all the time, to include exercise.
That is a good philosophy to live by for sure, and like you said, quality gear pays for itself if you use it. Not having to repair torn seams or rips as frequently does make a huge difference in the long run.
Next should be the placards and pouches
Question: How does one even start to pick out a plate carrier. I'm asking because I basically have one army surplus store local to me that sells quality products and the others sell lower quality. The rest of the selection is obviously online meaning I can't look at them, feel them or anything like that.. That being said, I do have any idea of what I like, but that's based on how they look.. and how comfortable they look to wear..
That is a great question. Id start with the principles of why to have a carrier in the first place, 1. To make holes. 2. To Stop holes and 3. To plug holes. Meaning, make sure that the carrier can effectively carry armor, medical and ammo. Beyond that start looking for features that you find useful, things like cable management for comms, a drag handle, pads and so on. From there you can start to narrow down which brands fill your needs and widdle away at them that way. There are a ton of quality brands out there and tbh most will work just fine for most dudes. try and avoid airsoft brands as much as possible, but like Hunter showed, sometimes it can work if you are mindful of what you are doing. But i would look into brands like Ferro Concepts, Spiritus Systems, Crye Precision, Whiskey Two Four, Haley Strategic and Trex Arms.
Every single person that's battle hardened seems to have the lightest setups. They always value speed and weight-- even if they have smaller armor. 🤔
all depends on what you are doing. There is a growing popularity where guys are only running webbing gear and no armor like those soldiers in wars past.

You know what I learned? NEVER ORDER FROM AR500. That company is complete garbage. Garbage customer service, Garbage shipping....worst experience ive had in quite sometime.

Well if the plates are sized to their body well, then it doesn’t really matter whether it’s a slick or a bulkier type carrier.
There's a myth in the community that everybody has the same size lungs placed in the same way so nobody needs anything bigger than a medium plate and thus a medium carrier.
As someone that's had extensive chest xrays, I can say that that's totally false and that large and extra large plates exist because manufacturers know that some people need bigger plates to get full lung coverage. For example my lungs are so long that I actually have to get a top and bottom chest xray that are combined together by the technicians which is uncommon but not rare. Some barrel chested guys really do need xls if they want the plate to do it's job

Because mobility will save you more than hoping your plates will catch a round will.
@@floofy6911 I do agree that mobility saves lives.. If you're moving constantly and mobility is key.. dont wear a plate carrier. If you need to take/hold ground and take enemy fire.. wear a plate that covers enough. You're just in a static engagement and big guys are easy targets.
The fact that you fail to wear side plates baffles me. You know how many Ukrainian soldiers eat one to the side cause they do not wear side plates? There are even combat videos on youtube where soldiers eat one to the side and if they had a plate....I mean, you have so little "plate carrier" why wear one at all at this point? I am just not a minimalist fan and definately not a supporter of the JPC. Furthermore, you have to remember your audience is not going to be a bunch of previous tier one operators, many are "airsoft" players or those with no experience at all.
I think you are failing to make a PC build to your actual audience and I would absolutely "never" not have side plates and I would never not have at least 8 magazines distributed between my PC and belt. My philospophy is ammo, medical, water and in that order. Anything else is just extra.
Our use case scenario as US civilians is far from the trench warfare that Ukraine and Russia are engaged in. We are setting our carriers up for civil unrest, post disaster type scenarios not full scale armed conflict scenarios. That’s why you see slimmer carriers, less mags, and just a more minimalist setup in general.
I completely agree with you. IF we were ever to find ourselves in a conflict like the one that is being fought in Ukraine then a Light load out like the ones shown are not going to be enough for large scale, all out war. If that was to be the case, being trained on, and prepared with much more gear will be necessary. However, most people stateside will never see that level of long term engagement, if any engagement at all, which is why something scaled back is a more manageable task to achieve.
@@modernwarriorsut I understand that, but I still think you should wear side plates so its just second nature to have them. Too many people are seriously injured cause they jsut do not wear them.
@@RandomWrongDeletion unfortunately, we did not think the war with Russia would devolve into trench warfare either. So, war is fickle and beliving that it won't happen is a disservice you know? You should make a video geared towards a conventional war. It is just not Americans who watch your channel. It would be interesting to see what you all come up with for that scenario. I hope you consider it.
Whats your deal? People want to wear side plates , they can wear em… what does it matter what particular set up their showcasing? Pretty easy concept… you want side plates ?… wear em… you don’t… then don’t….. there are plenty of videos that showcase that….
