When I was in graduate school, I worked full time at night and completed my full time course load and internship during the day. Girl!!! I'm not totally sure how I did it either. But if anyone is reading this, it is possible!
Thank you for the advice. I have been on the fence on attending grad school for the last few years. Anxiety is my biggest obstacle. I do work full time overnight and plan on taking part time online courses.
Thanks Gabby, great video! Could you do a video on financial aid, scholarships, etc. during grad school. I know it'll be different depending on school/person, but just general advice on how to pay for grad school would be helpful.
Now that I have my MSW, I'm really glad that I completed my MSW, especially as an Advanced Standing student. It was definitely challenging but definitely worth it!
Thanks Gabby for putting this video out . I’m in school part time and I am starting to work a 9 to 5 job I can tell with my studies I will be overwhelmed I am overwhelmed. My mother recently told me to quit school I would not quit school, I’ve been working as a case manager for over 4 years I finished my undergrad at 22 now I am 27. I struggle so much with with writing effectively in my papers. I feel like I will be working a job that is strenuous but I do need income , I’m single no kids but I am planning to move into my own apartment so I will need the income to survive.
You are welcome. Stay strong! I know it feels tough but it will be all worth it in the end. Working a 9-5 and doing school part time is more manageable than trying to go to school full time too!
Janaye I feel you!! I was in school part time and worked a 9-5 but quit in June. It's been so much better for my mental health and now I work part time. I feel like each person knows their own limits and how they can figure out to balance their schedule. For me, working a job "in the field" was too much mental energy and having a part time job doing some other kind of work is better for my mental health and energy. I definitely am still working out on how to pay for everything once my loans are all out of funds, but I have faith that I will figure it out. The sad thing is there are not a lot of grants or scholarships for part time students.
Hey Janaye, I have a similar experience as yours. It's overwhelming working full-time and going to school part-time. Don't give up that's goes for me as well. Just stay focused and stay on task with juggling life and school.
@@janayewill3883 Currently I am in school. It's very difficult working full - time and going to school part-time. I'm not perfect, but what I try to do is to manage my time when it comes to complete assignments. I do a little each night and start before the due date. I try to do my readings during breaks at work or before bed. Trust me it's very hard juggling work and school, but in the end it's all worth it. We got this!!!
This video is incredibly helpful. I'm trying to do a career change with an unrelated bachelor's degree. My mind was set on going full time to get it done faster, but you gave so many good points about being part time. Thanks SO much!
Thank you for this! I am in my msw full time and working full time with a family! I do my schoolwork overnight & I am beat! Feel like I’m neglecting my family for sure. Think I’m going to try out part time!
I would see if you are going to work and go to school, try finding a night time MSW program. They are filled with working adults so the professors are a bit more understanding plus the crowd is more mature.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. My entire channel is dedicated on part-time study as I think it's important to give back to the community. Plus, information is scarce on the topic - relative to full-time programmes. Let's keep on building content for future students. All the best!
Mind your Society I love your videos! I am glad that you are educating us on social work. I hope your channel keeps growing because the public needs to be educated on myths of social work that aren’t true etc
I'm pretty certain that part time is for me. I have a child and a spouse and I have a strong interest in working for pay. I already have a masters in a different subject so I'd like to use it for a while before jumping into this new field. Question: when thinking about accreditation, a national accreditation makes it possible to move around the US while a state one means I would have to take exams when moving?
This is definitely apart of my dilemma, whether I want to apply for advanced standing or part-time, all while thinking about the debt. I want to be fully committed and engaged but because I have obligations I'm not sure if full-time will fit and I want to do well. Thank you for your insight
I’ve been trying to figure out what I want to major in for college and I’ve been looking into social work. Is there any links of ur videos giving me insights on different types of Social Work? Also subscribed 🤗 I’m a senior in highschool by the way .
Aww! Awesome. Thanks for watching. Check out my social work and macro social work job playlists here on RUclips. I have a bunch of social work videos about types of work on those
Hey Gabby thanks for putting this video out !! I’m actually currently pursuing my MSW full time and juggling working. What kind of internship did you do ? During your graduate studies ? I am currently on the fence on which one I need pursue! I’m interested in so many avenue of SW. I eventually want to become LCSW !! Thank you for always sharing
Hello! I worked for the city’s public health office. But I am a macro social worker so it fit for me! Your choice has to fit for you! If I were you, I’d use your internship experience as a way to test out a theory you may have about an area of social work you may be interested in. Use it to decide if a certain area is truly for you! You may find later that you don't want to work in that area! But you still learned something from the experience.
As I am about to start my carrier thanks for such information what about bachelors in electrical engineering what about studies in UK is it really expensive or reasonable?
Seriously I am not sure I do not have any type of experience of studying in the USA as a whole as well as mother with 3 kids I do not know what to do ???
Question. What was your first job social worker job after graduating? Researching, social worker jobs. Majority, job description state, the employer wants someone with experience. Does internships qualify as experience? Also, your videos are precise and informative.
Thanks for your kind words. My first experience after graduating was being in a community development focused fellowship program. I recommend fellowships for anyone looking to get their foot in the door. And your internships are definitely experience !!
Hi Gabby! :) I was just wondering if you can discuss BSW jobs and how to sell ourselves when employers want 2 or more years of experience? Unless we shouldn’t apply. Also, if you have recommendations on the best therapy role play videos! I know there’s many on RUclips but not all of them are good quality. I asked my professor and she said RUclips was the best source. I wish there was a social work educational website with professional role play scenario videos.
Hello! I think i answered this question for you on another comment already, but field placements and volunteering definitely counts as experience. So if I were you, I would apply to the job anyway and position any volunteer experience you have as valid and applicable. Because it is! Maybe I can make a video on this too. Thanks.
You would apply through the same program, just select the part time track. Depending on the school, you may have to fill out different paperwork or apply in a slightly different way. Please consult the programs you are interested in.
if we are doing an undergraduate degree part time as an international student how many hours do we get to work? is it still the same as 20 hours per week? and same question for postgraduate degree as well. Your videos are great and very helpful. Love from srilanka : )
Hi Gabby, I completed my MSW and have an experience of 6 years working with an NGO in India. Will I get a job in Canada? What are the prospect's for me?
Chintu thanks for your question, but there simply isn’t a way I can tell you if you can get a job in the US or not. That’s the trial and error process that you have to go through for yourself. I also don’t know you personally so I can’t give you information on your question via the comments. However, I do offer sessions where I connect with people 1-1 to answer their questions.
