Thank you for sharing your secret technique ! I’ve been afraid about buying one of these because I’ve never used one and didn’t know what to do if it hit something. I am sorry for your loss. I am trying to use gardening as a way to cope also. I am grateful you shared this! It helped me make it through another day/night
You're welcome and thanks for the kind words. I hope you find peace in your life and find a way to cope as well. Losing a loved one never leaves you, but eventually you learn to move on and live in hope that you will meet again in the afterlife. ((((HUGS))))
thank you for the tips! I just bought a reel mower and I'm excited to use it. I use yard work to get me outside and be active too. it's also is therapeutic for me.
I love mine but it's been raining none stop here for the last few weeks so I'm going to have some tall grass when things dry out. Hope you're able to use yours.
I just bought a reel mower and I absolutely love using it. I’ve mainly used it for trimming and underneath low branches where the big mower can be used. Thank you for the video…I wish I had seen it prior to using mine. Best wishes to you!
First, I'm sorry for your loss. 💜 Secondly, thank you for doing this video. My husband accidentally broke our mower 2 months ago. Being in central Florida, to say our yard quickly got out of control is an understatement. Given the current state of the world (And not wanting to stress my husband out about getting a new mower), I began looking into reel mowers because I feel I could manage this better myself (no need for fuel or filters and all that jazz). I don't need some pristine looking yard, just cut. Plus our neighbors just had a baby and I have hens that are new to laying - both of which I think will benefit from the quiet of this thing. It didn't occur to me that small twigs would be a concern but now I know it's best to rake beforehand. I think I'm going to like the convenience of whipping this out any time Im out with the chickens to keep things trimmed and kept up. Again, thank you for this brief and to the point video.
You're welcome. I'm so glad if it helps, I also have a video on putting the reel mower together and adjusting the height of the mower too. It is so quiet. Your chickens may be a little leery at first, my cats were but they will soon get used to it.
Sorry for your loss. I have lost two sons in 10 years. I know the pain all too well. Doing a lot of yard work has been very therapeutic for me. You will see him again. Mine makes that same screeching sound. Any idea why? I bought it 2nd hand to mow over grass that has been seeded over, so it won't suck up seeds. I love it but th noise is horrible. I oiled it but no luck.
So sorry for your loss as well. I'm glad yardwork is helping you. The noise is the from the blades making contact with the cutting bar. It's annoying but it's actually a good sound. It means the mower is adjusted properly.
Im sorry for your loss. 😞 Ive thought about getting one of these for a long time but where i live now, if a twig stops it in its tracks i guess thats out. I live practically in the woods with .75 acres of grass. Normally i use the tractor but sometimes ill push mow with the rotary for some exercise. Also thought about a scythe also for quiet useful exercise and it looks kinda fun.
It is a workout if you try to mow your whole yard that way with tall grass and lots of sticks. But for quick touchups like areas that get a lot of watering but aren't near trees, it's easier than dragging out a big mower.
How hard are these to use? I am weak and tired a lot due to health issues. I can't pull the rope hard enough to start a gas mower and they seem to break down a lot.
It's about as easy as pushing a regular mower. You might want to go to a hardware store and see if you can find one that is assembled and try it out. But if you can push a regular mower you can push one of these. I used to use battery operated electric mower. Easy button push start and no electric cord to pull around. If you can afford one like that it would be the easiest for someone with lots of health issues.
Ok thanks for your quick answer. I have a doubt , if the reel has a contact with the Bar, They don't fade ?? or Lose Edge? Sorry because my English is not good....
Eventually the cutting bar towards the bottom of the unit will eventually get dull. But I've used mine for an entire season and so far it has not gotten dull. If the reels don't make contact with the bar at the bottom it will not cut the grass. Think of is as a pair of scissors if the two sides didn't touch it wouldn't cut. I hope this helps. If you have trouble understanding please post in your native language. I will translate it in google and answer back in your language. Thank you for watching my videos.
@@LateBoomer1964 Thanks for your answer, and your Explanation , But I was looking many videos , and all people , Advice set the reel not in contact to the bar , because is more easy to push the machine and it is more difficult for the grass to get stuck between the reel and the bar. The distance between the reel and bar two sheets of paper... Sorry for the translate but i have to learn english
Make sure your putting oil in the hole found on the inside of the wheels which contain the gears. Also it sounds like your blades might be too tight, you don’t want them to touch the cut bar
Very sorry for your loss, hope you're doing better; thank you for your tutorials 🙏🧡🌺

If you get stuck on a twig just back it up and go again, eventually you'll get the hang of it.
Looks like hard work to me !!

Does the grass flick up to your face with these mowers?
No not at all.
Why do you have to keep on going over the same area over and over again? Seems like a lot more work. Is the grass too high for just one pass?
When the grass is high yes, it takes more passes because the grass bends over. After you get the grass low it's just one pass over.
Wow. That thing works great!
Cancer is the worst I took care of my sister before she passed
It's so hard to lose someone, let alone to a disease that makes them suffer like cancer. Sorry for your loss.

Great Video , How many Milimiters of distance between Reel Mower to the Bar -Knife?
Mine had no distance. The reels actually made contact with the blade/bar-knife as it turned.
@@LateBoomer1964 Are the reel and Bar self sharpen? Or need to be sharpened from time to time?

@@negroara28 Sorry for the late response, I didn't see this until today.
If the blades don't contact the bar the grass won't cut.
Passes the Cats inspection with flying colours.

If the blades don't touch the cut bar they won't cut the grass.
That is not true, if the blades touch then it will dull them. You want about .5mm gap between them. This is a reel mower, not a pair of scissors.

If the cat didn't complain, I guess is ok. :)
You can next buy a rake to pick up
