"you weigh more than the bike so it will follow whatever you do" Might be one of the best lines ive heard about trials! Clears a lot of anxiety when doing such gaps and tricks. 🙏🏽
Ali, This is one of your best filmed and edited tutorials yet. All your skills shine through. The super-slow-motion really gives a viewer time to study pedal and foot position, body position, and braking (on and off, front and back) - along with your color-commentary & verbal explanation. Great job! Thanks for helping teach others what you do so well. Good luck reaching 100K viewers in 2020. Louisiana Bike Trails is behind you in the U.S.A. - Whit+
Thanks for such an excellent tutorial, easily my favourite channel. The effort you have put into this vid really really shines through! A similar vid on sidehops would be fantastic in the future 😁.
4 weeks ago, I failed to to squeeze the back brakes in a pedal up, and ended up falling backward, on my back... Returning nowadays to riding. Can't wait to try out some of your tips. You're the best Ali.
Great tutorial man! For somthing that you dont have to really think about when doing it you describe in great detail for us less skilled riders. Thanks for the how too!
Awesome video. I bought my first street trials bike last year. ( Inspired Fourplay Pro Danny Makaskill Anniversary) and I have bunny hops real nice and dialed along with pivots but I really struggle with back hops.. but I also have very little time to practice.. anyway this video along with the one specifically on back hops are so helpful. Thank you man. ✌🏽
Great video Ali, I stuggle with the half and full crank gaps as I nearly buckled a knee on landing, but this video is very helpfull for the statics as well thank you
The longer I ride, the more helpful you r vids are! I would love to see you breakdown one of your more complicated lines, just call out the techniques used for each line and how you sew them together. The hops on the train axles for example. Cheerses
another great video Ali! Really clear and thought out advice with some great crisp footage to go with it! A bit like Hans Rey (I think it was on Tricks n Stunts) back in the day. However I would like to have seen the vid of the thumbnail used. Looks impressive!
Another great vid Ali, but as I am nearly 50 now I think that I will be leaving tricks lick that one to you talented youngsters. Looking forward to the next vid.
Oh man! This is excellent and perfect timing! I've been trying to do gaps and needed a little confirmation on what to do. I've yet to get the coordination down to pedal kick and land on the front wheel. I need to watch this many times! Thanks!
Ali great tutorial man... as always. I'd really love to see a side hop tutorial. Mine have started getting bigger but some technique tips and advice for getting even higher would be great. :)
An awsome in depth tutorial ALi, Thanks! also made me realise a possible reason why i struggle gapping to back wheel and staying on the back wheel, seems i might not be letting the bike go infront and underneath me before I land
Funny to see Seth's Bike Hacks' video in the search, as it was actually one of the most detailed explanations on youtube before this video, even though Seth has very little to do with trials
@@Ali_Clarkson As a trials rider of a very basic level, I have to say what you've shown here and in the back hops video explains the mechanics of the moves quite well and answers exactly the questions I have after riding for a couple of years. Beginners don't really think about where exactly to put their back wheel and whether they should start with the pedal kick or the body move, so emphasizing such rules is very important. In other words, great job, as always! Really looking forward to the next one
Bikes are not all the same. I have also allowed my bike to be weightless, but she has chosen differently. Super video to learn from. I've never seen so clearly how to move the body weight, as here.
Really nice Video ! love your Content... keep going! You will for sure hit you goals. Hope to see you in zurich this year! are there any plans for Drop and roll?
Nice vid! I have the same problem that you mentioned, not going close enough to the edge. If i do and gap off it, the rear wheel just roll and hit the floor in front of the obstacle and the momentum pushes me backwards. I have stucked at 220 cm/7.22 feet without using the edge and i want more 😀
Hi Ali, A few questions about preload, gaps to front and pedal kick on a wall. I guess these are not as much street moves and rather tgs but I'm sure you can help. Preloading for gaps - I've noticed that jumping higher up (option 1 in your tutorial) works better for me. So keeping my body further back over the rear wheel axel helps to preload better, then kick on the pedals and thrust my body forward at the same time. But if I tried a gap to front where I need to position my body forward and kick on the pedals I feel like I can't preload properly, so I don't go high enough. Maybe I'm focusing too much on shifting my body over the front wheel and I'm not preloading the way I should. That only happens when I'm trying a longer gap that I can't do. Is there any tip you can give me on how to proper preload and power up for long gaps? I feel like I'm managing well at a certain distance (say a bike and a half length) and if I want to go bigger it's as if I've never done a gap in my life. Pedal kick on a wall - again to a large extent this is related to preloading and body movement. I've found that I can do a pedal kick higher up only if I go super close to the wall, so it looks more like a side hop to rear or if I was to find the end of the wall and took my front wheel out the wall. What is the correct preload/body movement if I wanted to jump high on the wall from a normal distance? And last thing - do you take your finger completely off the brake or kind of like let go half way but still holding the blade? I've noticed that I never take my finger completely off and I'm wondering if that's killing my pedal kick?
I think I'll be trying these sometime soon, I love how these tutorials grow with my progression (ignore the 180 hop tutorial). Would you say up to fronts have a similar motion to the gap to fronts?
How are you on a 20" bike, Ali? Forgive me if I'm wrong but, I've seen you go from your 24 to a 26 and you've said it's crazy to be back on a 26. I dont recall seeing you on a 20". Maybe, a future video idea?
Well my goal for 2020 is to finally learn how to manual [now that I have a bike that actually fits me]. I can somewhat bunnyhop, but can't manual to save my life.
It adds some momentum which can help carry you across bigger gaps. It’s not as powerful as a full pedal gap but it’ll get you a little further than a static gap

I liked the music. Man, 15 hours work on this plus several hours filming I'm sure. All these people gushing about how much they loved the vid - I just wanna ask them what it was worth to them? $2? $10? $50? I'll make a contribution now, this as great. Hope you see it in the morning!
The most clear and detailed tutorial. As any other tutorial on your channel. Thanks, Ali!
Love the tutorials, trials seems a bit out of reach but your tutorials make it doable.

When I was younger we would jump gaps on foot first from standstill it's a good way of telling if you're biting off more than you can chew
35 years I'm still working on a wheelly. The day I can do that for ten yards will be amazing! I love how controled and easy you make it all seam.

Definitely best tutorial yet Ali, really enjoyed the in depth detail on this. Nice Friday evening watching!

very well explained :) crazy how many small details affect a simple gap
YES , finally a video on RUclips which shows how to pinch gap. Cant wait to try it out! Great Video..Thanks
FINALLY!!!! A good video on this subject!
Awesome tutorial Ali covered everything I could think of :). It does make it seem so easy though especially with the slow-mos.
Great work Ali,I bet the new Loadingbay is handy in this fine Scottish weather.

excellent video
Awesome Video and great tips!!! It seems You made Your goal with 100.000 subscribers :)
Thank you man!
Hi Ali, love your video, have been watching since years ago. Would you please do a tutorial on sidehop? That's my weakest part. Thanks!

Can't wait for Spring here in Canada. My goal is get gap to fronts down this year. Thanks Ali!
Also.. thumbnail = possible hifi foreshadow?
Great vid. Maybe the next tutorial can be gaping from something low onto something higher up. Both from static and a rolling start.

great video!. Biting my lip seems to really help
I read your title quickly, and I read "How to gap a jump bike", so I was expecting you to gap on a dirt jump bike. Haha

@@Ali_Clarkson thanks you 🙃 i will, im just on my way to ride!
Good timing, been working on improving these for the last wee while.
Why the different tensioner?

Where's the link to a wheel swap tutorial? I can't learn to wheel swap on my 29" Capra without a tutorial!
I think I'll be trying these sometime soon, I love how these tutorials grow with my progression (ignore the 180 hop tutorial).
Would you say up to fronts have a similar motion to the gap to fronts?
Very detailed- if only the ground was not covered in snow. No clue how you did this prior to tubeless...
Have a new bike about to arrive in the post, aim is to combine different trials/MTB & BMX parts to see which works best!
@@Ali_Clarkson Hears one! looking for shorter fork for my off road scooter?

Awesome tutorial Sir! Maybe some day I will be able to move my fat a** through some gaps, but first thing first, backhop still rubbish on me 😂
This is a great vid, really good to progression, never been very good a gaps, so will see if can get better at them even at the age of 55?
@@Ali_Clarkson Does help remove mental blocks, when see what to do & have it explained!

What is the half pedal gap that does mini bounce and then a bigger gap? 15.34 min? What is purpose of those? Just extra preload power?

Watched the video thinking it was filmed in Morecambe :(
This is the best tutorial. but I can’t jump like that anyway.
Medium sized gap is lager than teh distance i can bunny hop moving at a steady pace...
