- so radtel reached out to me and sent me this radio for Free to test out.
They said that it might still have some problems (firmware) so anyway we're testing it but so far I'm pretty impressed with it. they were addressing the issue of the rt470x having an s meter and volume indicator bar graph that doesn't respond or do anything.
So the conversation came about with them sending me this to review on the channel. so I did get this radio for free.
I want to say thank you to radtel for giving me the opportunity to check out this very cool radio!
there's one left on Amazon for sale I will post the link to it down below I would probably imagine they'll have more soon

Remember the Dirty Dozen Rule:
"They're pretty, but can they fight?"
My uvk5 k6 has been dropped at least 5 times now. Once from 4 feet. It has had no issues. I have a old uv5ra from about 2013 its been dropped so many times i had to super glue the plastic near antenna haha. Most of these radios no matter who makes them can handle alot of abuse
Decent radio with very good price for 10W on both VHF and UHF bands + big battery !
Rubber antenna is absolute garbage, huge SWR in VHF and ~2 on UHF PMR. Receive sensitivity is way poorer compared to the cheaper Radtel RT-470X (maybe some firmware issues ?)
I concur lol
For those who asked, so no one, these can be unlocked and set to TX whatever you want from 18-630 I think. (Dont even think about it GMRS guys, 9w on channel 2 is overkill) I’m up to almost 40 cheap Chinese radios in my new collection of cheap Chinese radios. The 730 arrives tomorrow.
Hold the 8, turn radio on, set frequencies you want. Max would be: 18/300
300/630
You’re welcome noone.
I'm not sure where you read that but holding down the 8 and turning on the radio doesn't do anything when the radio is on holding down that key changes the steps though
Well thats not how it works, use Radtels software, and TX for 16 to 999.950. Im still waiting to see what the scramble actually sounds like on RX from other radios
I just got one RT-730 (aka Zastone M9) : nice audio RX, a little on the quiet side on the TX but no biggie, up to specs with PWR out (11W on 2m, 5.5W on 1.25 and 7.5 to 9 on 70cm). A nice to look at radio BTW. Very Motorola-like.
My guess it is IP67 at best, so weatherproof (but not waterproof).
BUT,
- It lacks sensitivity : I do have a distant repeater on 2m (almost 50mi away) I can hear clearly on my RT630, and RT730 barely hears it (in the noise).
- Software is very basic,
- I would have liked to be able to toggle PWR from the side buttons.
- AIRBAND receive is awful on strong signals (no AGC).
- Not possible to monitor battery voltage.
- For a 10W radio, battery capacity at 2500 mA is a minimum, could have been 3000 mA.
- Screen color could be user customizable.
- No software version info available in the menu (will there be ever a single software update on this?)
Lots of these things could be solved via software.
For the money, RT630 or RT470X are better choices. This one (RT730) is not worth the money they are asking for it.
I agree. I told them $59 is too much. The 470x is good but s meter doesnt work on mine. Ill have to test the 730 more. I asked radtel if they had anything else for me to review...crickets
Lol so probably no 630 for me
@@hamradiohack s-meters will not work on Chines radios. Only the Quansheng UV-K5 (and its variants) s-meter will work after installing 3-rd party software (like Egzumer).
630 is worth a look, the only "thing" I found on it is the fact that L and M are reversed just like on my 470X.
To date, 630 is my best talkie, so I am keeping it.
There is a new fw version for the 730 which lowers the Squelch level 1 threshold to have more useful signal entering. But I would like to have a fix for the sensitivity issue on 2m (140, 150 Mhz), I did not test the 70cm range though.
There are two firmware updates available as of 6/26/2024. You only need the most recent. The updater is in Chinese, but the Radtel RUclips channel has a video that makes it effortless. My example showed better sensitivity after the firmware update while retaining excellent sensitivity. Considering the build quality and far superior receive over the under $40 options, the radio is well worth the money.
Hi, would like to see a review after you have used it for a while, same screen as rt-580. Battery is not that great for being so big, only 2600. Rt580 is 3600 and smaller and monitors 3 freq at a time. I like the way this looks but curious how clean it is on transmit..? I also like the size as I’m not a huge fan of these super compact radios. Thanks for the review
It is a mirror copy (reverse) of s Motorola ht. The battery seems good but i dont talk on 2m 440 often. I just listen. Ill have to check it on my tiny sa at somepoint. Im really impressed with this radio.
Is radtel 730 a IP67 waterproof?
Reminds me a lot of the Motorola XPR-7550 model
They copied it mirror almost lol 😆
Sorry mate, does this radio works well with an abbre antenna? I have my baofengs with an AR-805S the small one. hope you can help me please.
Abbree 771 fits
@@hamradiohack thanks 🙏
The radio is not reliable ... see my post this channel re: his programming issues.
Does not work with CHIRP. The Radtel software is awful. Radio is great, though.
Mine is working with chirp somewhat.
Mine works flawlessly with Chirp. The included cable will normally require driver installation to work with Windows. Install the driver and Chirp works brilliantly.
Aw, it has an M-type interface? i'll pass
The program cable comes with it. I think yaesu ft4x ht uses same closer spaced Motorola ish plugs
