I bought the Silver Horse a few weeks ago. Opened it up, and voided any warranty. It has two sets of diodes. One set of red LEDs, and a set of what look like germaniums. The switch toggles between the two. The gain pot is a dual pot, like the Centaur, and it uses TL072 op amps, like the Centaur. So far, it has Klon genes, and a little extra.
Nice! Hope it’s been working out for you. It has some very nice sounds for the price. Not sure how long it’s durability will let it last. Time will tell I guess.
The red LED is the clipping mode for the overdrive, the germanium is the clipping mode for the boost. How they got the germanium as stable as they did, I don't know- this baby works in the heat. I played a show in Texas this past summer, it was so hot the pedal enclosure was too hot to touch at one point, from sitting in the sun, and it still worked. I was sweating it- I just knew when I kicked it in it wasn't going to work but- it did. I ruined mine last night though- plugged a 16-volt ps into it by mistake. I didn't even turn it on, I caught it and unplugged it- didn't matter- fried it. I already bought another one this morning- in fact I bought 2. Ppl are sleeping on this drive man, it's awesome.
@@paulcopemusic108 I'm not a electronics geek nor a physicists- I'm a guitarist- but what i do know is fuzz- I've played for over 40 years. Which means I've played dozens and dozens of germanium fuzz or overdrives- and they're all effected by temperature- accept this one. This one doesn't seem to care if it's burning up hot or freezing cold- it sounds the same. There are even stories of the legends like Eric Johnson putting there's in the freezer to purposely effect how it sounds. I don't know what that says about your theory, nor do I care much but- that's the way it is.
The one aspect about the Mosky horses that needed to be mentioned & demonstrated, using the pedal as a clean boost. Zero the gain out, pushing the volume and dialing in the preferred tone match or enhancing the pedals tone knob setting.
I’m with you, subtle differences between the two. The toggle switch sold me on the silver. I’ve had it a few weeks, it does the job for solo basement jamming, Great demo again!!
I have both. They sound EXACTLY THE SAME when the Silver Horse voice switch it's up. When it's down, it sounds more clean. But I prefer the standard tone (swith up). So I think the Golden Horse it's enough. The Silver Horse will do exactly the same. Both are a steal for the money. And are decently constructed. It's a no brainer.
Not sure how I overlooked this video, Aaron, but glad I caught up! I bought a Golden Horse a year ago for £10 used and it has become my ever present fly board boost/light drive pedal. It really is a bargain and now having heard your' demo of the Silver and read some of the reviews below, I'm going to get one of those and try it into the Gold into either a 'green pedal' or possibly a Mosky B-Box preamp.
Thanks for this. Have the Gold (typically use it gain down as a treble booster) but was wondering if I should get the Silver, too. I mean, at under 30 bucks, it really doesn't matter, but it's nice to hear the comparison!
Forgot sarcasm doesn’t work. Good job. The only difference between pedals is that switch (and color) and it’s soft and hard clipping. You helped figure that out without me having to drive somewhere to demo it myself so thank you.
Great video! I Appreciate your demos! In your opinion which of these two has more mids? I think I prefer the sound of the Silver Horse but idk if it'be buried in a mix or in a live situation. What do you think?
Awesome demo, would you say the Silver or Gold would be best for single coils ? Thinking maybe the Gold as you mentioned it hard some warmer mids ? I get plenty of sparkle already from my S Coils, thanks !

voided warranty lol ;)
@@stoneysdead689 my understanding is that its germanium transistors in fuzz circuits which are effected by temperature not diodes.

This is how I use it!
Difference between the Silver & Gold:
The Silver sounds better & is far more versatile.
Get the Silver.

Aaron, Thanks for this video. Made me purchase the silver one and I love it.
Glad it worked out for you

Glad you found it helpful. I go back and forth between liking the silver or the gold more.
In fact another klone comparison may be in the works
I have the golden horse and I love it … can’t believe how good it sounds …. Came here because I want the silver one too
I like the squawk of the gold one, but I already bought the silver. I guess I'll have a nice pair.
Appreciate the demo's one these cheaper pedals. Thanks!!!!
You’re welcome!
they are the same with switch up
I bet the tolerance in component values is enough to give the sound differences you heard. Cool comparison though.

thanks for the treble boost tip. I have 2 of these. Never thought to do that for pedals that need it.
thx for this clarifying demo

Shops don't carry these anyways so you can't go to guitar center to demo them.
Much appreciated brother ♥♥♥
thanks, helpfull comparison
The difference between the 2 in the same setting is most likely just variance in the diodes.

Appreciate that! The Silver seems to have a little more top end and may pop out a little more. Both can get very close to each other though.
@@aaronjlivecchi Thank you!
Same Circuit
wished you stacked them though
Is the clicking going through the amp when turning on and off the pedal?

I think the silver is over all better
@@aaronjlivecchi thank you !
Thanks! Great demo. I’m going to check out the Silver and give it a whirl. Will probably end up getting the Golden one, too 🤣
usually the gold is better than silver.i like the golden. seems more rounded
The golden sound less compressed
You could buy 100 of these for the price of 1 of the originals!
the silver is more compressed
