Never even crossed my mind that I might want to cast on with purls let alone no knots. So much to learn, so much do. 🥳

You can do it, Jo! There is always something new to learn and I love learning!!

I particularly like a cast on without a slipknot when I knit in the round. Thank you Suzanne

This is what I use. I also use a stretchy long tail cast on, sometimes called a sock cast on. I do the long tail cast on as shown here except I have the action of the cast on stitch worked closer to the center of my palm, further away from the tips of my fingers. I am not saying this to criticize anyone. We all know that individuals will knit slightly differently and accomplish the task of making a nice knitted fabric.

Thank you Eastlyn. Have you seen my other Long Tail Cast On videos - I have several. Here is one of my favorites - ruclips.net/video/fg5vksQhvyQ/видео.html

@@SuzanneBryan I was slow and very 'stoo pid' figuring out cast on and cast off. And this was even after my other knitting skills were advancing. I watched yours and a half dozen other people's videos on cast on and then finally stopped cutting off the first 6 to 14 rows of knitting because my cast on skills had been so bad. I am hoping all others watching this will learn faster than me. I encourage knitters to try the stretchy cast on reccomended for socks. I use that cast on for hats

Suzanne is usinf yellow yard instead of green? What is the world coming to? 😀 This is the way I cast on, since I don't like the hard knot.

LOL! Green is the preferred tan color, but sometime ya gotta change it up! 😉

This is how I was taught how to cast on by my Grandma. She also taught me how to use her Singer treadle sewing machine. She died in 1984, so you must surely know by now that I am ancient. I still cast on this way, never could catch on how else to do it.

How fun, my grandmother also taught me to sew on her treadle Singer, in fact I have that same machine in my living room now. That is how I learned to sew. She did not teach me to knit, though as she was not a knitter. But I am sure she would have if she could.

@@SuzanneBryan Grandma could do most any handicraft. Raising seven kids, living on a farm, she had to. She could crochet expertly, and taught my Mom. Mom tried to teach me crochet, but alas, I could not do only one needle, though I could manage two. Mom, on the other hand, couldn't knit. I framed one of her pillow cases. Still hanging on my wall.

This is the way I have learnt it from my mother when I was six 😊. When I started to watch knitting videos later, I saw that everyone casts on using a slip knot, and I showed it to my mother. We were really confused that we had been doing it the wrong way through all these years. Now I am starting to realize that there is no "wrong ways" for knitting, just different. Thank you for sharing this 🙂 my mother will be happy to watch it, too! ❤

Exactly! Whatever way works for you, is the best way. Thanks for watching and cheers to you and you mother! 😊

I almost never use a slip knot when casting on, it never seemed to pose a problem or be particularly necessary with long tail

Me too, Erin! But it's really a matter of what works best for each knitter.

I was taught to cast on by a left-handed knitter and I can't do it this way. I have to have the yarn in my right hand and twist that around while the needle stays still.

Everyone has a different method and there are no wrong ways. It is always nice to get a new perspective to see if there are ways to improve. 😊

Great video Suzanne! I prefer to use this method with certain projects to avoid the knot. I enjoyed seeing it with the Purl cast on too. Thanks for sharing!😊
