    For the death part, if you happen to die, after you are resurrected you will have a 5s window of complete damage immunity that will be dispelled if you use any skill, including sprint. Dont immediately attack the boss after res, give your healer that 2-3s to heal you so the next raid wide doesnt floor you immediately.

      also another thing I will add, the raise status lasts for one minute. That means once you have the raise spell casted on you, YOU are the one that chooses when in the next minute you want to get back into the fight. That means you can choose to be raised after room wide damage has happened, or after some other mechanic has happened. Don't be the person that accepts the raise instantly, drops your immunity immediately and then blames the healer for raising at a bad time.

Try to stay group up with the party in melee range if you can so you can actually receive raid buffs and aoe heals, as well as having yours hit the rest of the party. if you are feeling really risky, you can also use Dissipation to remove fairy and get 3 more stacks, i do this in dungeons:
      use Aetherflow ASAP, let it reset the cooldown, use it as a dump to get fairy Gauge going a bit, using Aetherflow ASAP, you can normally get 2-3 uses on route to bosses. save 3 Stacks of Aetherflow once you are sure the boss is next.
      then i dump those 3 into Energy Drain, pop Aetherflow, 3 more Energy Drains, Dissipation's, 3 more Energy Drains.
      that is 900 potency going in 18 seconds for Energy Drain alone, not counting Broils and Bios.
      i do NOT recommend this until you know your stuff and the dungeon though, it IS risky.

    One thing I've been noticing about new tanks this expansion is that they often just go into the center of a pack and start tanking. They don't group the mobs together, they just let the mobs group around him. This makes it harder and sometimes impossible for some AOE to hit all targets. Grouping mobs together should also be part of the bare minimum of tanking, I think.

    • @alexossan2829
      @alexossan2829 3 года назад +3

      @Martin Øverby I also tanked in WoW for years and if I remember correctly, it was considered a bad thing to let mobs hit you from behind, because you can't block nor parry hits from behind you. So much so that in large pulls I would back myself up against a wall to stop mobs from gradually spreading around me in a circle. Which, initially, was also the same in FFXIV. So grouping mobs have always been one of the basic things to learn as a tank in both games.
      I would rather think it's the removal of direction for mob hits in FFXIV that caused people to start saying to new tanks that it's fine to let mobs hit you fron the back, which gradually made tanks lazy, especially people who only tank and don't know what it's like trying to AOE mobs spread all over the place.
      So IMO anyone trying to teach about tanking should include this point because the situation is dire when there are tanks in Lv90 Expert Roulette doing this. :(

    • @AnaseSkyrider
      @AnaseSkyrider 2 года назад

      @Martin Øverby Mobs will stand inside of each other in WoW. Idk what you're talking about. It wasn't until Shadowlands that mob behavior was coded so that they would actually spread out and surround you if packed too tight. Having come from WoW last summer where I main a block tank, it is pure habit in FF14 that I always keep mobs in front of me instead of letting them surround me. Since, in WoW, players can't block, dodge, or parry from behind.

    Unethical pro tip for all your healers out there; most players don't know what overhealing is, let alone why its bad, and will see their healthbars going down at all as the sign of a bad healer. I've noticed that the number of commendations I received as a healer went down pretty quickly once I started playing chicken with HP bars. If you have a crippling need for validation, or for some reason want the burger king crown, consider playing inefficiently. Its worth occasionally being shouted at by players who actually know what they are doing in order to see that beautiful 3 player commendations in a dungeon more often.
    Or just try and get better at the game, what do I know, I don't pay your sub.

    random note for low level tanks and melee dps, for additional mitigation, some abilities can be interrupted, low blow/leg sweep can stop them with a quick stun, sometimes these are cones that wont bother you, but will really slam casters who might be in them, so kick some balls. mostly useful at lower levels as some enemies cannot be stunned, but its useful when characters are fragile. these are not technically interrupts, those work on attacks that glow red, this is just proactive stunning

    Despite what "pros" say, except in niche encounters, I want my off tank to have stance on. If I die, be it sleepy healers, sleepy DPS, or me just forgetting a mechanic/fucking up, I want him to have 2nd aggro, so they'll immediately have the boss without having to provoke plus stance plus etc. It's safer, and I've yet to see any situation that proves otherwise beyond maybe 2 extremes.
    EDIT: The newest Normal Raids, Pandemonium, have a boss that requires both tanks have stance on, because it lays a tank buster on the two highest aggro in the raid. If the if tank isn't aggro-ing, that 2nd tank buster will go to a healer or DPS.
