Why mislead your viewers? That lighter was made by a manufacturer called Kaschie (its name is stamped on the bottom) and not soldiers in trenches.
Must have been one of those German trenches then, fully equiped with workshop facilities, a lathe, sauna and rest area.

Whenever my wife asks me to do someting in the house and I am too unmotivated to do it. I came to this channel... then I need to do it bad, haha
Your title is misleading. How can soldiers make this lighter in the trenches? With threads cut etc. I do not believe that. Maybe a bullet or part of a shell casing from the era to make the lighter (away from the battlefield).
