      Well only foreigners make money off of FMA and do tons of marketing and social media stuff and talk a lot online.
      The Filipino grandmasters are from a different time without the internet technology, and even so they were usually too poor to use the internet effectively for marketing lacking funds for cameras, internet upload speed etc. Only now they are doing more online. But still many do not do much. I trained with a master in the Philippines who is a slum dweller and lives near squatters and stuff.
      But you see many of the foreigners who do PTK and Kali Center type of people and Funker Tactical in western nations with more wealth getting all of the praise and popularity over the ones who deserve it.

    All great men converge into the path of greatness...whether they transcend from two different ends of the spectrum, they still come together in the middle and walk the same path.
    To all laymen fighters, Any regular Joe has no chance of withstanding a full FMA barrage much less live to tell the tale, though Tatang and his fluidity and GM Angel and his fluidity came through...in the end, they realized their fortes in their styles and taught it to the world...they didn't care for lineage.

    There is so much similarity between Tatang's movement and that of Angel Cabales! It looks so familiar when I see this; I wish I'd known more about the common points in their background (particularly Dizon) when I met Ilustrisimo.

    We are all escrimadors. We should not fight over things that happened in the past. We should be united. We should now think of a way how we can share and popularize the art that was left for us by the masters especially here in the Philippines. I'm really saddened now a days because only a handful practices this art in the Philippines.

    • @MaharlikaAWA
      @MaharlikaAWA 10 месяцев назад

      Mainly foreigners practice it. They get all of the popularity. Pretty soon FMA will be a foreigner's martial art adopted and taken over from the Filipinos because not enough of you care to practice it. And all the foreigners will keep making up fake Filipino language terms for moves like panantukan lol. And other weird exotic tribal crap they make up haha

    I agree. I'm now 59 & I kept my arts w/in the family for 40 years, bcoz of the unhealthy environment among FMA practitioners in the past. I came out only last year to answer the call of one concerned master who wanted to give FMA a boost in Negros Occ., Philippines. I don't care about originality... evolved fighters like Bruce Lee are better. Even great GMs didn't claim originality... somewhere along the line they borrowed or copied something from others to make their art better. You are right!

    Hi, nice to see you here! I feel bad reading the comments of some where they throw insults at each other. Real masters should master not only their arts, but also their emotions & tongues. I met several aging masters & octogenarian GMs in our province, but I never heard them use foul language against their fellow FMA practitioners. You can see how they were taught by their own teachers. How we behave reflects the kind of arts & discipline that we represent. Real masters are few nowadays.....

    There's a lot of similarity between Tatang's movement and Angel Cabales' escrima. Since you're a fan of Sultan Uddin, ask him; he met Tatang and confirmed it. Both GM's trained with Felicissimo Dizon, so there's the link.

    Hmm. That's why GM Vicente Carin was so interested in my training in 1989. That's why Gen. Fabian Ver's former bodyguard was "shocked" to see "such an advanced system being practiced in the U.S." These guys didn't think Serrada was a joke. If you don't think it works go to Stockton, where Angel lived, and try any of his many students there. They're always happy to demonstrate to doubters.

    There really is a resemblance, because escrima in one point in the Philippine's history was being practiced by everyone until the spaniards made it illegal to practice the said art. If you are going to observe the old escrimadors they walk, they talk and fight the same. Now a days the art is not as pure as it should be because the art now is being inserted by techniques from other forms of martial or fighting arts.

  • @unclebraddah

    the fact that all of you griping about each other about what is and what is not FMA or particular styles is what will prevent the propogation of the art to be accepted by the global community at large. If we can't get along within our own circles of FMA, why would anyone else show respect to us?

  • @stickman33
    @stickman33 15 лет назад

    BTW, you do know Angel was in a gang with Dizon, right? They called it "the Escrimador gang" and basically did protection for businesses on the waterfront. I don't know if Tatang ever worked with Dizon like that, but if he did, it would have been after Angel left the Philippines.

  • @stickman33
    @stickman33 15 лет назад

    No, I don't know who you are; sorry you are so touchy. I merely pointed out that since you seem to respect Sultan Uddin, you might ask him about the similarities since he confirmed this himself with Tatang, as he's told me. I never said they are the same system, but have common elements. As for me, I met Tatang in Cebu and Manila, but I'm not in his system. I merely trained privately with Angel Cabales for six years and know most of his master students directly by training with them. You?

  • @stickman33
    @stickman33 15 лет назад

    Yeah? So what? Angel lived most of his life in the U.S. and so had no students in the R.P. OTOH, Dizon was well known in the Philippines and highly respected by the other grandmasters, and what Angel taught was Dizon's style, only the teaching structure was changed.

  • @healthyhappy

    cabales had the privelage of being tatangs stickboy on occasion. angel undoubtedly picked up a few pointers in the presence of the maestro.

  • @stickman33
    @stickman33 15 лет назад

    Uh huh. And you base this on personal knowledge? Please explain. When I met Tatang, he didn't act that way, nor have any of his students whom I've met, and when Sultan visited and trained with him, Tatang specifically noted common roots in both styles, including hidden hand signals. Since the styles are similar in many ways and have common influences, what exactly would Tatang hate about it?

    Hahaha...That is hilarious. Do yourself a favor and go study some Eskrima History. Cabales, Dizon and Villabrille bowed to Tatang as the undisputed head. They were all in a Eskrima gang for a while in the Tondo area. Every advanced level Eskrimdor knows this. Sorry to burst your bubble but none of these guys were in the same league as Tatang.

    OK, you're a great warrior. However, YOU are the one who made the comment about Sultan being Angel's greatest, so all you're doing now is contradicting yourself. Done "discussing" this with someone who thinks like a 14 year old.
