She's wonderful. Her father was Louis Armstrong's band leader and her mother was a Julliard grad and songwriter. And John Pizzarelli and his quartet are about as good as it gets. Bravo, brava.
Luis Russell was much more than simply Louis Armstrong's band leader. His band was resident in the Saratoga Club in NYC ("the best job in Harlem") for seven years. In 1935 Louis Armstrong heard the band and signed them up as his backing group. Altoist Charlie Holmes: " I didn't like working with the band then. It was OK when it was Russell's, but afterwards it became very commercial and there was always this one and that one telling you what to do." Catherine Rusell is very good, not well known outside of jazz circles. She does jazz, blues, soul, Motown, the American Song Book standards, even a little country. Talented and she performs with really fine musicians
