Makes my memories of the bayou so clear. You cant have been in the bayou and not reflect on its spirit when you hear music like this,or music from Justin Johnson.
I'm a little embarrassed and sad to say I just heard of TJW a few months ago, though I remember the song Polk Salad Annie from when I was a kid. It was the song "Not one bad thought" with Mark Knopfler that got me started. I now have most of TJW"s cd's - I love this guy! From his writing/story telling, voice, guitar and harmonica. I close my eyes and visualize the scenes in his songs. Puts me right there. Thanks TJW!
HANDS DOWN - AMERICA'S #1 STORYTELL'N, SINGER, SONGWRITER OF ALL TIMES..! HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE "R&R HOF" MANY YEARS AGO... THANKK YOU "TJ" FOR ALL YOU HAVE GIVEN YOUR FANS..! "LADIES & GENTLEMEN - THE SWAMP FOX HAS LEFT THE BUILDING"...
It does something to me to see this video. I had the great pleasure to do 2 European tour with Tony Joe. When I see his old vintage wha and supa tone bender, ( he never wanted to change these old pedals for some new and "safer" gear), his old 65 strat, his rattlesnake strap ( It name was "Raymond"!), it reminds so many stories and the fun we had on these tours! Tony Joe was really a southern gentleman, a big heart with a malicious sense of humor ... You know what? sometimes I really miss you T.J!
Every single musical sound this Great Man writes and plays is an earthquake... a tremendous musical personality that is so rarely found.. Pure, crystal clear idea of what Swamp Rock is & represents, for the critics of music... Master TJW.. what a huge Column in modern music he is... ♥♥♥ Him forever...
Oh My Lord! How did this song ever end up in the archives section. Dan, Jody and the gang..... Amazing efforts in bringing out Tony's love and passion of fishing in conjunction with an powerful song. Tony would have been blown away with what you accomplished. Cannot wait for my C.D.. to arrive. Thanks once again.
It's mesmerising to be transported back to the swamps with Tony Joes resonant tones easing us through to that ethereal realm amongst the 'gators and the vipers & the massive bullfrogs callin'...
this and Boot Money are so so good - thanks for this amazing work bringing Tony back and backing him up - psyched to see Marcus on this one. I've been a fan of Tony for some time ...I'm also a DJ and have been playing both of these track on the air here in Jackson Hole and telling the story of this new work. I grew up bass fishing with my dad and had a Zebco reel- haha- love it! Looking forward to more!
Shouldn’t surprise anyone that this mans outtakes/unreleased material is of such high quality. Thank you Dan and everyone for making it available. Cannot wait for the full album. Cheers.
No one today has that distinguished, smooth bass voice like TJW. Thanks, Dan, for giving us more of The Swamp Fox. Great lyrics to fit the swamp scenes, too.
Thank you so much for this . I seen an interview of TJW and when he talked about sitting around the campfire having a cold beer with friends and eating Crappie ...He just didnt put himself above others a real someone not caught up in the glitz and fame like so many others . When Tony left us another piece of goodness left us .RIP we all miss you .
The performance he's doing on the tv was from an old Ralph Emery show. I saw it at the time. TJ did it solo. I've been looking for it for nearly 40 years. Thank you much!!
