    Drinks in Turkish cuisine are in accordance with the climate. A big cold glass of ayran is the best electrolyte you can have when you are dehyrated. It is a very nice drink if you are having a keto diet. I don't know why it isn't so popular in any other countries. In winters, we drink more sugary and creamy drinks such as salep, boza and şıra. They warm you up, they're high in calories so give you energy in cold winters.

    Guys, as a Turkish person, i am watching this from Kyiv/Ukraine. This was a great video! Btw, I've never seen anyone in my life eating İskender Kepab at İskender restaurant, pay the check and go to Çiya right after that)))) You'd normally need a day after visiting one of those restaurants to recover))) Well done!!! 👏👏👏

      Thanks for watching from Kyiv 🙌 We cannot say it was easy, physically, to eat at those dishes back to back, but it was very easy to eat them from a taste standpoint. Turkish food is amazing, incredible, and more 👏 We couldn't stop eating everything tasted so good. Thanks for leaving us a comment, we appreciate it.

    Okay a couple of notes!
    Tahini is like peanut butter but it’s made of sesame seeds. The oil inside the seeds makes it really creamy when you blend it fine enough. Helva is a type of desert known in Turkey and Middle East. Like many European deserts it combines an earthy creamy flavor with the source of sweetness.
    Kokoreç can be unsanitary if not prepared properly but they are regulated. It’s not like they chop the instestines real fine and cook them (that’s what I thought when I was a kid). They only cook the muscle layer which is sepetated from whatever going on inside the intestine with a really strong filtering layer. That filtration is really important in physiology because it’s what keeps the bacterias in our intestines from infecting our blood and bodies. So, if prepared properly it should be completely safe to consume.

    • @ThePassportCouple
      @ThePassportCouple  17 дней назад +1

      Wow, thanks for sharing all these details! We had no idea about tahini and helva! so cool to learn how rich in history and flavor they are. And the kokorec info is super helpful too! Makes us appreciate it even more 😊🙌🏻

    dude, you should definitely not eat menemen with a fork or spread it on bread. You should tear the bread into the size of a spoon, dip it in the menemen and use the bread as a spoon. The trick here is to have the same ratio of bread and menemen when you put it in your mouth :)

    Exactly, what you are used to. We drink ayran or kefir 24/7, with meal or without meal. I drink Kefir at least 5 times a day, it's fermented milk, the taste is sumilar to Ayran but thicker. I can't drink Coke, makes my stomach uncomfortable and also don't like the taste. I like sour things, such as pickles, especially cabbage, sweet pepper or pickle juice.

    The trick with Rakı is that you have it with meze (sort of like a light meal - and you can have it when eating fish). But the food pairs with the drink, and you take a bite of this and have a sip of Rakı, have a taste of that and have a sip of Rakı, go to the next bite and have a sip of Rakı, and so on... (the food is actually used as an excuse to drink - I also recommend it when you're having a massive mixed grill kebab meal)

  • @ivanivan2139
    @ivanivan2139 6 месяцев назад

    13:50 the fish inside the bread is tuna and it comes as frozen from norway since it is very cheap and they sell the food for very expensive as far as i know. it's a total scam. the locals say the quality was good like waaaaay back in the days but nowadays in all the way down. i wouldn't recommend eating from one of those boats unless you are very hungry and you really want to eat some fish.

    You cannot understand some things in Turkey just by trying. For example, if you have a Turkish breakfast with two people, it will be too much for you, but you should be there with either your whole family or all your friends. You may be tempted by the abundance of food, but the important thing is to be with all your friends. For example, the raki you drink should be large and drink it slowly with a meal. Even a Turk should spend at least three or four years at the raki table for raki. You are just experiencing, not licking. For example, call your families, be at least 5 or 6 people, but at least. Then experience the Turkish breakfast. Turkish drinks are probiotic, they may not taste pleasant to you when you first drink them, but we use them to balance the meal. It is both healthy and once you get used to it, you will realize how good they make you feel. Just tasting some things does not tell you the real experience and life. Stay in Turkey for at least 3 or 4 months and the pieces will fall into place :) I wish you to make beautiful memories.. enjoy..

    Btw 19:00 You ate Iskender kebab.. That kebab is invented by İskender efendi.. So iskender is a name.. Here is a story.. Alexander the Great, you know that? He was from Macedonia.. His name is not actually Alexandre.. His name is İskender.. But Alexandre is western culture version of his name.. Just like Jesus.. Jesus was not his name.. His name was İsa.. But translation situation happens.. :))
