  • Starting a GEnx-1B after some maintenance, to check everything is doing well.
    When the electric starters engage, you can clearly hear the noise of the compressor and airflow, not covered by the noise of the air starter.

    Amazing, no pneumatic starters. Just electric! The future is now!

    • @michaelmurray7199
      @michaelmurray7199 7 месяцев назад

      The weight savings from using Carbon Fiber Composite is more than enough to offset the weight of the electric starter generators. And instead of using bleed air to operate the HVAC system, the 787 uses a set of 4 electrically driven air compressors which draw air from directly outside. This arrangement allows the engines to focus more of their energy towards propelling the plane through the air, further enhancing fuel efficiency.

    Before first introducing fuel, how do they get N1? Isn’t the starter only connected to the high pressure shaft?

    • @KoopaCreeperSC
      @KoopaCreeperSC 3 года назад +7

      It's correct that the starter only spins the HP shaft in this GEnx engine (and most engines, with the exception of the RR Trent 1000 and Trent 7000 that I know of, which spin the IP shaft); however, the LP shaft spins even before ignition due to the the airflow generated by the rotating HP shaft.

    How dose the ac unt even work on a plane dose the apu provide acc and heat to the cabin or no

    • @jerry150686
      @jerry150686  2 года назад +1

      A/C is a system where high powered hot air goes through a bunch of heat exchangers, compressor, turbines and stuff... It is cooled from a couple hundred degrees to a comfortable ambient temperature.
      The powered air comes traditionally from the engines/APU, or from electric compressors and the most recent planes. APU and engine do not provide directly A/C, only the power to make it.
