    I completely agree with the guys opinion about slabs. And I'm probably 1/2 his age. it's just hype. speculation. making a quick buck.

      Exactly. CGC and the whole grading industry is a huge scam. We are relying on someone else's opinion on the condition of a comic. Not to mention CGC has been caught being inconsistent with their grading, which is supposed to be objective. Unfortunately a majority of the people in the hobby fell for it.

    The old timer is correct. CGC did nothing for the hobby but bring in speculators. I have over 10,000 books. I have three boxes of slabs. The slabs I've purchased were because I couldn't find a high enough grade of the book for my collection or I was speculating. I understand slabbed books but high grade high value books belong in a mylar with a nice sturdy board.

    @13:00 mark. That gentleman is absolutely correct! Slabbing is for flipping or investing. I collect raws but I do have slabs and that’s only for selling in the future. It preserves and there’s no question on the grade so let’s talk money. But I want to read my comics…all of them so I go for raws in mid grade. If it’s really expensive then I’ll get a low grade just to wet the comic pallet. Who is this seller? Does he have a IG? I’d love to support him.

      I don't know the guy, but he's seen the comic book dealing industry's ups and downs. When he says CGC hurt the hobby, he's definitely speaking from experience. He remembers the 90s and all the gimmicks used to sell books then. Now, some of that stuff is creeping back.

    I enjoyed the gentleman's opinion on CGC/slabbing, he's right they aren't Baseball cards or coins where you can just flip those over to see the whole thing.... the only reason to slab is if you're selling to get a better price.

  • @randolm7698
    @randolm7698 5 месяцев назад +4

    I understand the gentleman's opinion on CGC/slabbing - it's a devisive thing. But for me I like having slabbed books for display purposes. And have never 'flipped' a single one, and have no plans to do so anytime soon. But I do consider them an investement - only time will tell if it's a good one. Either way collecting them has brought me joy.

    Most collectors don't actually read comics. They only buy for the cover or if it's a "key issue". This is why CGC has gotten such a foothold. CGC has transformed comics into commodities instead of what they are supposed to be: stories.

    I just don't understand what the big deal is. The way I see it... is I'm cool with both reading and preserving.. if something is worth alot... slab it ...grade it....and read a reprint .. if it's not worth alot (which is the majority) read the hell out them. Save the good stuff for slabs !!!! Both are cool in my book
