proud of everyone on the sober journey. i’ve never drank alcohol and never been interested, helps that i’m Muslim and it’s discouraged in our faith- due to all the reasons Alex and so many in the comments have said they found as negatives.
i often feel quite sad when i’ve been around others who are drunk or hungover and see them be not their best self or the way their body language and anxiety changes. it’s sad because i wish they could see themselves and know there’s so many other ways to be social, be happy, be confident and have fun without alcohol.
i’m 28 and have had amazing moments and experiences without the help of alcohol (despite having other barriers like mental health and health conditions) and that’s not because i’m any better or special- it’s just because it IS POSSIBLE. so possible.
please don’t let society’s obsession with alcohol make you feel like you have to partake- you don’t. it’s not legal because it’s good for you, it’s legal because it’s lines the pockets of many who do not care about you.

New subscriber here. Thank you for sharing your journey Alex. I’m on day 6 and I’ll admit it’s hard. I’ve been drinking heavily for last 12 months due to work stress and made the decision to go sober. I want 2023 to be a better year and I know that drinking isn’t the answer to coping with my stress. At the moment I find myself in floods of tears everyday for absolutely no reason, I’m hoping that will pass! I started doing a puzzle on New Year’s Eve and that’s massively helping with the “wine witch” which inevitably appears everyday at 5pm! I just keep visualising how good I’m going to feel in 3 months time. Good luck on your sober journey!

I have found that when I go on a date, my date is very considerate and won't drink. I can go out with friends who drink and I'm fine not drinking. I will say that even though being 18 months sober I have been tempted but always go and do something else for 5 to minutes and then the urge is gone. Not sure who needs to read this but I’ve tried and failed to stop drinking at least ten times before and I’ve recently read Allen Carr’s book (not the comedian) and it totally changed my view of alcohol.
To summarise the book it’s far easier to quit if you don’t rely on willpower and instead remove your desire to drink alcohol which the book does by removing every illusion that alcohol is positive in any way.

I am doing Dry Jan, so on day 10, so Woo hoo for me, but am quietly hoping to do Dry 2023. I am suffering from agoraphobia/panic disorder and that is another reason why I think stopping drinking will help me focus on my mental health more. I do think you’ll probably drink again. It often takes a few periods of sobriety to understand it’s dangers. I went sober for 6 months then convinced myself I could “moderate”. For a while I did very well but slowly got complacent and got drunk again. My mental health was slipping again. If you ever realise you can’t control alcohol then you’ll never ever be able to. I think that only a small percentage of people manage alcohol properly. Most people have some level of addiction. Even that working person who “needs” a glass of wine to relax after work. You’re essentially using a drug to manage your emotion. Or that person who needs to drink to socialise. Good luck with your journey.

I've got to partially and subjectively disagree on dating. I think the relaxing effect if you are nervous or have anxiety actually brings out the best version of yourself. The sober and talking to a new person version of me is absolute shite, far away from engaged or energised. With a few drinks, much better. Secondly, drinking uninhibits you. So if you're a twat, it shows. For example, I saw a drunk group get off the train recently who kicked a cat twice as it walked past them. Would they have done that sober? No, they would have been presenting the "best version of themselves". Seeing someone drunk, angry, not getting their way are great tests of character.

    Makes no sense??
Promoting sobriety but not an alcoholic?
But the alcohol made his ADHD worse so doesn’t need meds or alcohol anymore but keeps alcohol at home …he admitted that…
A doctor with DIAGNOSED ADHD, doesn’t take meds for it??
This doesn’t make sense to me?!
What DOES make sense to me is that he wants to find a field get famous
    He’s extremely young
I do t trust this at all …. It’s fine to have a drink but I don’t drink and have booze in my house that I don’t touch 😂 and I may not do this forever??
