    I just ordered the OLED as a christmas present to myself. And now it is waiting underneath the christmas tree, for me to open on Sunday night 24th. No idea why I'm torturing myself, considering me living alone and seeing that beautiful package just lying there haha. It will be my first Steam Deck, so I'm really really excited!
    *Update 6 months later: Since the moment I opened up the package I play on this thing every day! Best gaming device I've ever bought!

    I moved from an LCD Deck to the OLED and am so glad I did! I'm right there with you about all the upgrades but the biggest is battery life. I no longer fear playing AAA titles on the Deck and only getting maybe an hour or two. This will be a backlog killer for sure.

    • @dziobusz
      @dziobusz 8 месяцев назад +2

      I agree. This is an upgrade. The performance gains are modest but there are gains due to the faster memory. All the rest though are also big big gains in my opinion, better screen, contrast colours, response, battery. That is all clearly an upgrade. For me though this is my first steam deck and I’m loving it.

    I have nothing but praise for all the upgrades the oled brought to the party. The reduction in weight is probably my biggest talking point, because the fact that they managed to cram so much improvement into a lighter device really makes it so much better. And as an owner of the limited edition deck, that’s even lighter, as the clear plastics are lighter than the opaque ones. I picked up my original deck recently, and I never thought of it as heavy before, but after using the oled for the last month, it really hit it home how much of a difference that small amount of weight difference makes.

    • @MrChevyGames

    I just got my 512GB OLED yesterday and judging by all the reviews (including this one!) I am very happy I helf off initially. I've been playing a couple of games so far and I feel like I'm barely scratching the surface of what's possible with this sytem. I love how it feels in my hands, it feels like it was designed for my hands specifically (I have fairly big hands). The screen is so incredibly crisp and bright with great contrast and really nice colors. Downloading a game is just as fast as doing so on my PC thanks to that fast Wifi chip. I could go on and on like this and I've only had it for a day haha. Great stuff! Thanks for the vid! You've earned yourself a sub :)

    There's absolutely a performance increase with the faster memory. People think you need a new cpu to see any improvements. There is less stuttering and up to 10% perf increase.
    Ive watched a ton of reviews and yeah the double battery life is quite common. If you lower the TDP at all you'll get increasingly crazy battery life increases because the non-APU power consumption has been reduced so dramatically. The ram speed increase contributes to better battery life.
    My 1 tb LE is waiting for me on Christmas day :D

    Love my SD, then got hooked on the Lenovo Legion GO, but Windows on a handheld is a bad idea, an it's clumsy, heavy an uncomfortable. So I ordered a SD OLED. I love it even more. Performance is still ok for most games, it's just enjoyable to hold, the screen's great, it's quite and just a perfect overall experience. I dont regret it and would recommend upgrading, if one can afford it, but only then.

    i started off with a deck couple years back then moved to a rog ally and recently switched back to deck oled, the ally was not really the game changing power promise i hoped it would be, if games struggled on my deck i found they still struggled on my ally i just had a bit more breathing room to push the power and get more frames but it was never really enough and the kicker to that extra power was just terrible battery, i mean nothing i did could optimize enough to get that battery life up, the best i got was 4 hours at 7w playing dead cells, but on the OLED deck im up around 12 hours in some games (cue club 2 - 3w, 12 hours, links awakening 11 hours etc), the ally could only dream of such lasting ability. Then there is all the nice things that come with deck, we all know the OS is great but its the little things that i appreciate the most like the community made custom control setups through steam input, some games i just could not play on my ally from a lack of any kind of controller support (battlebit remastered for example, big headache. opus magnum, big headache, rimworld... no thanks) but on deck its so community driven and supported a setup is often right there tried and tested ready to go... steam deck is just so refined in the OLED form i just honestly dont think ill bother with another device until deck 2, valve just know the score and nail it.

    Def want one, my only concern is the screen being bigger without increasing the resolution. I feel like 800p at 7 inch was already not enough and EXTREMELY noticeable and immersion breaking in certain games like GTA V, GTA V looks so bad on my steam deck with all the pixels I feel like even a slight decrease in Pixel density would make it borderline unplayable. Have you played GTA V on it? If so, how noticeable is the pixelation compared to the original deck?

    • @MrChevyGames
      @MrChevyGames  8 месяцев назад +1

      Personally I have found if game settings are on point 800p is fine for that small of a screen when you factor in both its size and the distance from your face. That's been my experience. Honestly the new deck screen is not that noticeably bigger so I'm guessing if you really hated that resolution on the LCD you'll probably he disappointed here? I have no issue with it. Another big factor is if the screen was 1080 or more that puts even more pressure on the hardware to deliver solid fps at that resolution. And with a form factor like this and current tech there's not a ton more you can do without massively hitting battery life. Which is what I hear happens on the ROG Ally. Appreciate the comment!

    If I was an original Deck owner, as nice as the upgrades are and there are a lot of upgrades, you are essentially getting the same Deck performance, which for me just isn't worth it if I already own the original Deck, especially considering what's on the market with better specs.
    So as nice as the upgrades are, if I had the original Deck, I'll wait for the Steam Deck 2, but if I didn't have the original Deck, I would buy the OLED, because as big as the upgrades are over the original, you are essentially getting a refined Deck with the same core performance and the original Deck should have been what the OLED model is.

The Ally won in so may ways there just was no competition. 1080p, 120hz, variable refresh rate, better sound, smaller, lighter, lighted control sticks, runs more games because the games were made to run on windows. The Ally screen looks amazing and you can make it look any way you want with all the settings. Its worth checking out for sure. Sold the Steam deck. @@MrChevyGamesI own both an Ally and an OLED deck. The Decks screen is much better even though it’s lower resolution. OLED plus HDR just means the colour reproduction and brightness are just better than the Ally’s LCD. The VRR on the Ally is nice but on the deck you mostly tune for flat 30, 50 or 45fps which lets the deck use frame doubling or tripling to smooth input within it’s 90Hz refresh rate. So ehhhh VRR nice but not as critical as you would think based on how you actually use the device .
      Windows just isn’t great as a handheld OS. I have four different bits of S/W to replicate what SteamOS does in an integrated fashion. Then there’s the battery life. The OLED demolishes the Ally in that front. The Ally is better docked and as a laptop replacement and occasional handheld. IF you are just wanting to game and pickup and go the Deck hands down.

      @@youngjustin82 the Deck screen has been measured as has the Allys it has much higher colour accuracy 143% sRGB vs 78%, can get much much brighter for SD content 465nits vs 600 nits. For HDR content that goes up to 1000 nits meaning a substantially more vibrant screen🤷 OLED is simply a much much better display technology🤷.
      Also I own an Ally that is not going over 100fps 🤣🤣🤣🤦unless it's an old game or you run at 720p or less and then titles look fuzzy on that higher res display🤦 minimum sensible res is 1600x900 or the images look poor. To maintain image quality you are not hitting 100fps on an Ally. To get near 40/50 fps on the Ally in most new AAA titles at 1080P everything is running at low. Given I own both devices amd use them both you're seriously overstating the Allys screen and the battery life is so bad at 18W+ TDP which is what the Ally needs to run well. So you need to plug it in🤦

      @@eagle_rb_mmoomin_418 mw3,forza,gta,mx vs atv legends all run over a 100 fps just to name a few at 1080 . You obviously don't own a ally dude . It doest run games below 720p must be confused with your Deck buddy . The panels are not that far apart to call it way better . Plus No vrr 120hz.

      Nah its power is appropriate for a handheld, considering all the stronger handhelds have much worse battery life

    I sold my launch Deck last week; the OS and UI are amongst the worst I've ever seen in my 4 decades of gaming! When only 10% of your games library works out of the box and emulators alwaya run in to issues, it just aint worth it. I got an Odin 2 for emulation.

      The steam deck has a translation layer for windows. Runs most games well. Only issues are certain games with anti cheat. And all emulators are compatible as well
