Incredible as always. When I'll become an intermediate piano player, this will be all thanks to you Especially for the jazz and improvisation side of the thing Thanks a million times 💜 PS : Did someone ever told you that your videos are even that good and chill that I can play your uploaded videos Playlist even in background to chill? I do. You make the ambiance so minimalist, clean and calm, the voice volume is perfect, and the playing is perfect to study etc
If you like this particular bass line, I highly recommend transcribing it. It's the best way to understand what's going on and integrate similar vocab into your own playing 🙂
@@Piano_Pig Eish I get you but that's very hard to me am still learning bass am teaching myself......is there any app I can download to help me transcribe?
This is the first video in youtube I learnt scales and chords they work with. You cant become a member of pianopig academy and not become professional. Difficult things made easy.
Man you keep dropping bomb after bomb and I must say that you cover a lot of jazz improvisation concepts really well. I like how built your solo from that motif you played in the beginning. Keep up the good work 👏
What a great lesson! I tried it. It's super fun and really helps in developing a feel for chord changes. It also goes to show what a sick scale the altered scale is. The A7alt is the most fun of them all.
Dear Simon, I’m a subscriber and love your videos. Love your style and feel. I have to say though, I’m completely lost, right from the start, with this video 😞 The reason is, the first chord you say is a Dm7 but is actually an F major 7! It’s stuff like this that leaves me completely confused and cannot get my head around this. If anyone can explain this or recommend other vids for me to watch to understand this, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
It's because it's actually a Dm9. He's using the D root in the left and and playing the rest of the extended chord in his right. Also to not further confuse you, all of the 7th chords in the beginning of this video are played as 9th chords not 7ths.
Easiest way would probably be to think of it as a diatonic progression in D minor, apart from the G major chord, which is a borrowed from the key of D major. Hope that helps! 🙂
Hey! If I'm a super beginner at reading hoy much am I gonna struggle if I try to learn at your piano pig academy? Or is there like a program where I can also practice my reading? Thank you!
It is usable to be fair since it does actually fit into the Gmaj scale. It's the natural 11 (C) over the G which sounds a bit funky, but does have a particular sound that can be pulled off in the right context. Didn't want to go into that in this video though 😂

Your final imrpovisation was so beautiful
Though I keep kosher, I heartily declare that this pig is exquisite. Thank you again! [You should do Patreon.]
Loving this, Simon! Thank you!
It's my pleasure bro! Thanks for being a long time sub and for always leaving comments - I appreciate you! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I took jazz lessons and this was how we approached improv. Good stuff on teaching how to play off a motif
Gracias por compartir tus conocimientos
I had to use translate for this one - but it's my pleasure my Spanish hombre! 🙏🏻
What a great concept. Thanks Simon! 😊

Thanks but I always need time to build chords do you have a trick for this ?
dear pianopig i have a question that why dm7 is 4613 , 4613 is Fmaj7? thank you i love your jazz
It's a rootless voicing of the Dm7. If you add the root (which he doesn't play), you get a Dm9.
@@suga4all thankyou 😻
The content and quality of these videos is 10/10. Thanks again!!!

Can you please explain de harmonic function behind this progressions?

@@Piano_Pig Thanks man!
I'm confused. Aren't those 9 chords?
We normally just label them as 7th chords in jazz, you can do whatever you want with them!

Reading notation isn't hugely important in the PP Academy - you'll be just fine :)
