    • @ivankaleoniefuchs333
      @ivankaleoniefuchs333 3 года назад

I liked Carlin much, but waaay too many people mistakenly believed everything Carlin
said was intended to be taken as "literal" truth. It wasn't, und even Carlin often gave
little hints of the true nature of his sarcasm comedy that made fun of a culture who
ignorantly over-reacted to everything believing it much worse than it truly was. An
example of this ist at the end of this specific religious comedy routine...
What does he say? "God Bless Joe Pesci"..."God Bless You". Think about it. :-)
Watch closely his political und racial comedy routines und you will witness his same
satyr of sarcasm making fun of the ignorance exhibited by the current und past
      3 decades of American culture.
Yes, he called out the dishonest politicians, but his main purpose was to call out the
people who ignorantly believed all politicians are dishonest.
Yes, he called out the few acts of racism, but his main goal was to call out the
ignorant people who believed racism was a common practice by the majority, or that
established laws were unfair to minorities...Which of course they were not even during
      that era.
Carlin didn't have much faith in humanity's religions, und neither do I, but he did
rationally believe in a creator of our reality.
His religious comedy was simply his sarcasm making fun of humanity's invented religions
by using their common deity und practices as ammunition.
He did this regarding every ignorant, self-important, virus-like action humanity has
      practiced.
Sadly, the many who think of Carlin as "The Philosophical Comedian" ist in part
rather accurate. What they apparently don't realize ist that the joke ist about them. :-)

Having lived in the US for all of my 40+ years, this s my observation. America has grown simultaneously less churched and more "performatively" religious. In other words, the liberals and skeptics have more or less retreated from religion, while conservatives have become much more vocal, visual, and "in-your-face" about it. Like, growing up in Texas in the 80s, I never remember seeing biblically-themed billboards and a new weird megachurch growing on every corner. People were more private with their faith (or lack thereof,) it was considered a little gauche to flaunt. Now it's more like this EXTREMELY vocal minority who wants to remake the culture in an image of their collective imagination.
It's a little unsettling, honestly. But that's why Carlin got more applause than you might have expected. First, that clip is a little older. But secondly, Americans are way more open to skepticism and irreligiosity than you might think, once you get through that little veneer of ingrained deference to religion in public life here.

The scope of view the man had is just mind boggling. He never fails to enlighten, instruct, and make people see the big picture. I grew up with Carlin, his career was just taking off when I was born. I discovered him at a very early age, 5 or so, thru my parents who were already huge fans. Every record George would put out my father would have it that day or the next. We'd attend a show a year, because Professor Carlin changed his routine every year, and this area (Rhode Island) happened to be one of his yearly stops. I truly feel that I would have been a totally different person without George in my life and I'm sooooo thankful that he was. Going to see George was like attending a college course on reality with an incredibly funny professor.
If Professor Carlin was alive today he'd have a field day with today's world. Rest in peace George, Joe Pesci rest your soul. :)
My recommendation for your next class is Euphemisms: @ then the Trillion Daves @ This is my 2ND favorite of Prof. Carlins'. This is one of the last bits he ever did. A few months after this piece George died of heart failure, probably from being so stressed out by and pissed off at the rest of the human race :) Watching this piece I'm just so blown away by the memory and mental acuity the man had at age 71.

Carlin is a master at word play and making his audience think. He speaks fast, but he always has something to say. He is probably most famous for his 1972 piece, "Seven Words You Can't Say on Television". It's still a good and semi-relevant rant if you're interested in reacting to it.

Bill Hicks (also deceased) had some incredible cable-tv comedy shows in the 90s. Religion was one of his regular targets.

01:40 Religion has been a major factor in the US for a lot of years but recent polls and research have shown that atheism is growing very fast... A lot of people are turning away from religion and are raising their children without religion...

As far as being surprised at the crowd cheering Carlins anti religion statement, also remember anyone going to watch Carlin already knows his stance on religion. I doubt a lot of really hardcore religious folks were gonna go to his show lol

Definitely need to check out a few of Carlin's stuff. "a place to put your stuff", "football and baseball", "Flying on the airlines", and "the four groups that have gotta go" would be my recommendations, just off the top of my head. He had so many great bits. OH!!! "the planet is fine" and "you have no rights"!!! Love your reactions, guys. Glad I subbed to you! Cheers from Oklahoma!

Yup died 2012. I'd recommend several (actually dozens & dozens) of his old bits from his comedy albums of the 60's & 70's. Of those, I've asked a few reactors to take a run at is 'White Harlem', 'Shoot', 'Sex in Commercials', 'Birth Control' and 'I Love My Dog' (there are a few videos of this last one, but the one from his album 'Parental Advisory - Explicit Lyrics' is the best). If nothing else, please do 'White Harlem'... no wait! 'I Love my Dog'... no wait! Oh hell do em all!!! :)LOL(:

If you watch from start to finish George Carlin went through everything. He started with jokes about dog farts in the 70s and after so many specials he started writing about more real subjects, like death. His writing evolved as he became older.
