Highs: Good-looking exterior, wide range of available models, high-end models add luxury to the adventure.
Lows: Not all models come standard with all-wheel drive, plug-in-hybrid powertrain needs polish, loaded models carry eye-popping price tags.
Verdict: From the rugged base Laredo models to the posh Summit Reserve, the Grand Cherokee is a mid-size SUV with broad appeal.
    Overview
Jeep is the SUV expert, and although the brand is best known for off-road icons such as the Wrangler, vehicles like the 2024 Grand Cherokee appeal to a broader audience, earning it a spot on our 2024 Editors' Choice list. The Grand Cherokee is a two-row mid-size SUV-not to be confused with the three-row Grand Cherokee L-and while it's designed to be more at home on paved highways, Jeep has engineered it with enough off-road capability to stay true to its adventure-seeking ethos. A V-6 powers most models, but a plug-in-hybrid model called the Grand Cherokee 4xe is also available, and we review it individually. To bolster the Grand Cherokee's allure, Jeep offers a wide range of trims that start with the spartan Laredo and work up to the legitimately luxurious Summit Reserve, which is nice enough to challenge rivals from BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
    What's New for 2024?
Other than some new 18-inch polished aluminum wheels for the mid-range Limited trim, the Grand Cherokee SUV rolls into 2024 unchanged.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
The price of the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee starts at $39.830 and goes up to $68.835 depending on the trim and options.
    Laredo: $39,830
    Laredo X: $40,580
    Altitude: $44,435
    Altitude X: $44,935
    Limited: $47,700
    Overland: $62,790
    Summit: $64,355
    Summit Reserve: $68,835
    Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The Grand Cherokee is powered by a 293-hp, 3.6-liter V-6. Rear-wheel drive is standard. Several different all-wheel-drive systems are available, including an electronically locking limited-slip differential. A Trailhawk model with more robust off-road equipment and greater capability features an adjustable air suspension that provides up to 11.3 inches of ground clearance and a disconnecting anti-roll bar that allows greater wheel articulation for tackling difficult terrain. Interestingly, the quickest Grand Cherokee is the 4xe, reviewed separately, which leaps to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds and reaches a quarter-mile in 13.9 seconds at 100 mph. At our test track, a V-6-powered Summit test vehicle managed a respectable 7.4-second run to 60 mph. The Grand Cherokee is impressively composed, and it's got an exceptionally smooth ride.
