Pandit Dr. S. Ballesh -
An Internationally celebrated Shehnai Artist and (Patiala Gharana) Vocalist, Ghazal singer, “Shehnai Chakravarthy” Pandit Dr. S.Ballesh, He hails from MK Hubli town Belgaum district) Karnataka. He is disciple of world renowned Shennai Maestro Bharatratna Ustad Bismilah Khan. Initiated into music by his father Pandit Sanna Bharamanna he continued to learn under the guidance of his uncle Pandit Dodda Bharamanna. He further trained under Guru Dr.DP Hiremath, Kirana Gharana and Patiala Gharana from Pandit Kodanda Singh Salunke Maharaj. He was conferred with "The Honorary Doctorate" D.Litt., (Honoris Cause) by The International Tamil University USA.
Panditji was blessed to train under the guidance of Padmabushan Pandit Dr.Puttaraja Gawai (gadag) Gwalior Gharana- Kirana Gharana. His training was complete with his induction into the Banaras Gharana under Bharatratna Ustad Bismillah Khan Saheb. As his foremost disciple, he also accompanied him for several years.
Panditji is also renowned Hindustani classical vocalist and Ghazal singer and has been the preferred musician for many music Directors in Bollywood, Tollywood, Mollywood, Kollywood and all languages across India (such as Maestro Naushad Ali, Maestro MS. Viswanathan, Maestro Illayaraja, Oscar winner A R Rahman and MM.Keeravani).
Panditji has also played for Hollywood music directors and has also collaborated with international musicians in recordings. He has also sung many Hindustani Alaaps and played shehnai for more than 10,000 background-score's for films and 45,000 film songs and around 50,000 devotional songs. He had also sang several songs along with noted singers like K.J.Yesudas, S.Janaki, Illayaraja, S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, MM. Keeravani and A.R. Rahman .
As a performing musicians - he has played in many prestigious Music Festivals and collaborated with senior musicians for Jugalbandis - both Carnatic and Hindustani Notably, Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan (sitar), Pt Atul Kumar Upadhaya (violin), Ustad Shafique Khan (sitar), Vidwan G J R Krishnan (violin). He has also performed in India as well as many other countries.
He has received many awards like Radio Mirchi Jury award, Sangit Samrat, Shehnai Samrat, Shehnai Ratna, Sangeet Ratna, KIMA Film Awards, Sanaadi Apanna Kala puraskar. He is the only Shehnai player who represents Shehnai from South India.

Primarily two instruments, guitar and shehnai, played so hauntingly beautifully. I can never get enough of this music in my lifetime. Maybe when I die, someone can bury me with this music playing in an endless loop at my burial!

Listened almost every song of Rockstar In 2011 when this movie was released but never know about this soothing tune unless i finally watched Rockstar on 29-March-2020.
What a mesmerising & heart touching beat but most people don't like it because they don't have that sense of music which can actually digest the purity of AR Rahman's music...
So many feelings. So many emotions..

“Ballesh was then accepted by Khan as his disciple, and is one of the five, and only surviving direct disciple, Khan saab bestowed the title “Dakshina Bharat Bismillah Khan” on Pandit Ballesh. In a story told in several versions and interviews, his guru Ustad Bismillah Khan once remarked that Ballesh was the "assurance for the future of Shehnai in Indian classical music.”

I think if someone has watched the movie closely….this music basically was a recording of a song with 2 instruments where there is one aged man who is a mature, intellectual and a Padma bhushan awardee playing shehnaai and one is a young teenager who is a wanted, arrogant, full of attitude and ruthless rockstar playing a guitar, who is emotionally battered from inside ….so both of them playing opposite to each other but at some point Ranbir kapoor goes calm as the shehnaai was soothing his inner rage….you could see him submitting to that music as he tries to understand that state of calmness and respect ,that he stops playing and just listens to the entire shehnaai in the end…epic song….well pictured
