I’ve rented with Hertz twice now, SFO and Milwaukee (and Turo twice before that). I found Hertz was very reasonable and I liked the no-hassle airport pickup experience. Turo owners required arranging dropoff/pickup locations; many are not close to an airport or charge extra for airport delivery/pickup.

I've owned two model S's and so, I thought it would be nice on a recent trip to Toronto to rent a Tesla since it is very familiar to me. I decided that I'd like to try a Model Y because I'm considering purchasing a Model Y for my wife and I wanted her to experience one for a few days. I checked Hertz, but they currently only rent Model 3's. I first compared their rates to Turo for Model 3's and in general, Hertz was much more expensive. So I decided to try Turo for a Model Y and found many available. I arranged for the owner to drop the car off at the airport which was very easy. The owner also made himself available by phone to answer any questions. One thing that you didn't mention was insurance. I checked with my own insurance, and although they provided some limited insurance for a rental under my policy, it may not have provided as much insurance that was available in the Turo app. And even within the Turo app, there were different levels of insurance. Bottom line - do your homework to ensure you are adequately covered. And while the experience was generally good and I was very familiar with the vehicle prior to renting it, there was one issue that really bothered me. This Model Y had a very dark window tinting on the side and rear windows. So much so, that it was impossible to see out of these windows when using the rear view mirror and/or shoulder checking via the side windows, especially at night! If I would have been stopped by police, I am certain that I would have received a summons. I could have easily been involved in an accident. I relied on the car's rear view camera to see behind me and the side cameras when changing lanes. This required me to keep the rear camera active on the main screen at all times which of course, prevented me from using any other screen functions while driving. Recommendation for Turo hosts: If you plan on hosting your car, avoid modifying your car in any way that could impact vehicle safety!

This was the only time I was able to rent a Tesla during my wedding a few years back, it was easy since I knew the guy who lives next to another guy I work with lol. He currently has 3 teslas he puts on turo and makes a good income off of them.

I too have rented from Turo and Hertz. My first Turo experience in CA was excellent, a few years later in FL it was not. It took more than an hour to find the car at the airport dragging bags around for miles. The car tire had a slow leak so I had to stop for air twice a day. They never responded to fix the tire. The first time the $90 car ended up costing $150. Later I found a $90 car could cost $450 with hidden trip charges.
The Hertz experience at LAX was smooth and ordinary except for long lines which moved quickly. The model Y car had 4K miles on it and everything was flawless. It cost $130 period. The rental place is off airport which is often the case these days and served by shuttles. I would pick Hertz as first choice. Turo service can vary and the final price can be shocking.
I have an Plaid S and a Y at home and have been driving Tesla's for almost 8 years.

You forgot to mention that in Turo you have much better chance to rent a tesla. I used it twice, in Miami and Hawaii, only in Turo they had available Teslas. Everything went well, except that the turo site keeps rejecting my credit card for some reason. Something to do with the fact that there is no Zip code where I live.

You forgot to mention that the price you see on the listingisn't what you pay. Turo adds a huge extra fee. I've tried renting twice, and each time the extra fee was 30-50% on top. I felt that I was about to be ripped off .Thanks, but no thanks.

@@pietrovichenzo1410 did Turo not add a fee on top, or was the fee sensible? I would have been ok with 5-10%

@@brt288 i rented 7 days at $90. Plus $ 224 insurance - plus $94 commission - plus $76 tax. But I also got a $63 discount. So, it worked out like what? 12%?. Not cheap, agree, but there was other choice anyways.

I am renting a tesla from Turo in October and not sure of the charging process. What is the difference between supercharging and regular charging, I look on the internet for charging stations and I just see supercharging stations, but it is my understanding that there are additional charges. So how do I charge it without incurring a supercharge fee, this is my first time with an e-type vehicle so I am a little concerned

I really don't like the idea of the owner being able to see where exactly I'm going and being able to access the cameras ontop of it. That's a borderline privacy issue at that point.
I understand that's the capabilities that the car has, but the owner should atleast have some common decency and respect your privacy for the duration of renting the vehicle. Only problem is, you as the renter have no idea whether their respecting your privacy or not. It's actually kind of creepy to be honest.

I don’t get Turo. I get rental car agencies as they’ve been around since before I was alive but someone crawling all over my car makes me cringe. I get it’s extra cash flow or could become a business but I doubt that everyone that lists their vehicles on here have dreams of taking over Hertz or Enterprise. Pretty sure the first time someone jacks up their vehicle or gets it in a wreck they stop doing it right quick. I work with a guy who put his Mach E on Turo and he told everyone he hated it. Guess the second couple that rented it for 72 hours had a sick kid/kids?? and could only seem to throw up in his vehicle. Claims it still smells like vomit. Different strokes for different folks I guess. Yuck for me.
