GIANT Flathead Catfish on a Short Line | Took a Plunge Kayak Catfishing

  • Kayaking has been my favorite way to catfish for years now. I love the mobility and the exciting tipping feeling you get when a fish hits. Unfortunately, the tipping went too far on this outing, and I ended up dripping wet! I can think of no better way to quickly ruin a good catfishing trip than by rolling your kayak and losing your phone to boot! Fortunately, I had my life vest on and the only injury I suffered was to my pride. At least I was able to land my best catfish of the year which was also my first flathead of the year and one of my top two biggest catfish ever. Landing that giant catfish definitely helped soften the blow of an otherwise extremely humbling mistake.

    I'm an old bastard, grew up fishing in the 1980's...
    Back then when you caught a giant fish there was no practical way to get pics of it, so you had to try and convince people to believe you.
    But I must say---I never caught a fish as big as the one you got here.
    And glad you were able to capture some footage of it. Now it will live on the internet forever. :)

    Respect brother... Any dude able to pull a monster flat from a kayak deserves some recognition. RIP to your phone but I would have done the same if I knew how big that fish was lol. Worth it!

    What a behemoth. Nice fish. We like to use cut Skipjack for flathead fishing. They are some fighters

    Cheaper phone, better kayak. You have skills and you don’t give up. After watching a few of your videos, I’ve noticed that almost all of your struggles are due to your yak. I get they’re expensive. The price of that phone could’ve been a really nice, stable, spacious kayak. The Bonafide SS127, not the pedal drive, is one of the best yaks I’ve used for that price range.
    I’m sorry if that came off as rude. Not my intention. I’d hate to see you get hurt. Great catch!

    • @fishstandard
      @fishstandard  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the feedback. I hope to upgrade the kayak soon, but want something that is still somewhat lightweight and mobile. Many of the areas I fish have steep slick banks that are difficult to launch from. Thanks for watching!

    • @Rizzob420
      @Rizzob420 Год назад

      @@fishstandard Not a problem.
      I get it. I mainly fish creeks and the banks are treacherous sometimes. I’d recommend something like a Catch 100 or 120. But make sure you check the entire body for weak points. Some of them, depending on the year, are made a little thinner. But they’re lighter than something like a Bonafide, pretty spacious and stable. The Nucanoe is a great option for a higher price point and it’s light, very stable and you don’t get much more spacious than what it offers.
      Where are you in this video?
      If you don’t mind my asking.

    Zip lock bags are a must when you go fish. Half to one gallon size. All valuables go inside. You figure how to secure it inside your boat.

      I purchased a waterproof floating container for my phone immediately following this incident. An inexpensive purchase that would have saved me a bunch! The pool noodles sound like they would work well also. Thanks for watching.
