No fact checking whatsoever; who's calling, what's your position, in which professional capacity do you know the applicant; how did you know he was applying in the first place, because we certainly didn't broadcast it. In its context, as people have said already, this wasn't really a compromise. If it even was to be attempted, it'd been at the job fair after Eric mentioned it, not sabotage then after. This could have been a heartfelt moment though. It was bound to get to Red after when they did Eric's job employment history, where he would have got blackballed by Red, so Kitty did it to have them not fight, then coming up with the compromise excuse.

This episode and entire plot line in Season 5 never sat well with me. Kitty and Red constantly tell Eric that he needs to man up, take responsibility, and make his way in the world. Here is Eric, doing exactly that, and they intentionally sabotage his efforts, attempt to manipulate him into doing what they want, and still end up condemning him for not doing the things they sabotaged. Eric is literally only getting the job to pay for the college that they refused to pay for. They put Eric in the position wherein he needed a job to pay his own way, and then sabotaged his attempts multiple times with the same excuse. It's pretty fucked up honestly.
