Thanks for the quick bit of history there. I had no idea about that. I wonder if that tid bit ever made it into movies somewhere. My sister is a WWII history buff. I'm going to see if I can stump her with this nugget I knowledge I now have. "TCG" can you imagine what it would cost to get a hold of one of the two surviving decks. Imagine the bid at Sotheby's auction in New York.
That would be an insane bid. Between card collectors, ww2 buffs, spy memorabilia...just appeal on so many levels. Got to see one of them (well, a single card) in D.C. a few years back. Wasn't into cards at the time, but it was still amazing to see!
Very nice review and such an awesome piece of history. I have been trying to figure out which map is depicted on the cards. I can see that it includes a bit of Switzerland, so I assume it is somewhere in the south of Germany. I've added a deck to my next Amazon order, so I'll get to figure out soon enough.
The escapes were from Colditz Castle (near Liepzig) so I assume the map includes that region as well!
