In the administrator settings under storage templates, you can enable a storage template that will organize your photos however you want. After you change this setting, you might have to start the storage template job.
Been using this ages. It’s by far the best I have used. TrueNAS have a great template from the community which just sets up all the docker containers for you.
I got a used sff desktop pc and followed your 'setting up my new home server - full walkthrough guide' video. I'm using two old 2.5" laptop hdds for this and they have different read/write speeds. I've got both mounted in ubuntu server in an lxc container in proxmox. The faster drive houses my immich docker compose file and photo storage. On the slower drive I use rsync to backup the photos daily. I use the IOS app and tailscale with it. I'm really happy with how it turned out.
at 11:05, if you enable storage template engine you can configure the file structure you want as you upload files. You're photos will end up in the library folder. It's not too late to turn that on after in initial setup, you just go into administration/settings/storage template.
Hey hey hey! You can setup storage template in settings, so the photos you upload have a nice folder structure - you can pick which one suits you best!
What's better about immich vs. memories plugin of nextcloud? And how does it handle your Google Pixel images with UTC timestamps vs. images with local time for example the images shot in Germany.
Could you please make a tutorial on installing immich on Casa os as well. Please also how to show external drives or how to back up files directly from iphone to external drives(which hosted in zimaboard at home)
the app is good contacted the developer who told us a group of users for next release after this one they will be adding auto delete after upload to server (it will ask you if you want to delete it ) so when this get implemented will be awsome
Here is a tip, you don't need to run the full fat Portainer container on the machine because there is something known as " Portainer Agent ", which means you get Access to all of your Portainer containers on one ip
But i want every user to have their photos in their own directory, can i do that? So should i write different /home/userx/photo's folders? And in immich redirect the upload photos setting of said user to their own folder?
Good video but one thing missing here is to inform people not to use watchtower or other auto-updaters for immich specifically since the developers have occasionally pushed updates that require the user to make changes to the docker compose file first, otherwise it would break your immich server.
if i remember correctly immich does not auto sync from mobile to your storage, but you have to use photosync ?? anyways great video still need to build my unraid and do all of this to get off google
Is it handling keywords ? Dates ? How ? XMP ? You say Synology Photos being proprietary but it is storing keywords in the pictures files. If Immich is using its own darabse, you are also caught up with it ...
Do you have any securities against some release of it uploading all of your photos somewhere? All I can think of is making this offline or using VPN for android but per-app is not possible as far as I know. I'm using LineageOS, but it seems less and less relevant given I want to give only parial internet access to some apps, not total no access
If they have proper metadata that's best. You can upload directly using the WebUI, backup everything on a device, or if you have a huge archive, you can use their CLI tool.
If you are away from your home on a trip, do you need to be on WiFi or does Immich support upload over cellular data? Also when away, how does the connection work back to your Home NAS without compromising security into your home network?
what I do is have an inconspicuous domain name, point it to a cheap VPS server, have tailscale running on it along with a reverse proxy, and point immich.your-domain-name-here -> to my local immich server IP through that reverse proxy. everything just works flawlessly, and its also done without needing to expose any other ports on the VPS apart from the one for https (443). and another quality of life feature would be to setup a local DNS server on your home network, and have an entry that points `immich.your-domain-name-here` to your local immich IP, this way it eliminates the hop to the internet on all devices on your Local network without needing to run tailscale client on your family phones, AND when they go out of home, the VPS + reverse proxy + tailscale on the VPS takes over making it completely seamless. PS this is not limited to immich you can do this with any other service as well ;)
@@glenjones2277if you setup a funnel in tailscale no, it'll allocate a web address with a tailscale subdomain and make it visible to the public internet, albeit with some caveats, but can confirm it does work (currently setup with jellyfin for me for friends to access my media)
Immich doesn't have the feature of auto-delete the photos that you uploaded (to free up space) so it's useless to me and a complete deal breaker. I use memories instead
the stupid way of how google photos handles device folders and tries to implement the virtual albums way, was unfortunately copied by immich. I handle a synology nas, which uses folders from all family. I dont need a 15 year timeline with 60.000 pictures unhandled and just displayed on the screen scrollable. i want folders to be viewed as albums.
self-hosted means you run it on your own device. no-one can charge you for that (except maybe your electric company) presuming the code is freely available online which it is

my goat
I literally just switched to Immich last week and I have been loving it!
Same here
From what? PhotoPrism?
How about a video on how to backup your immich library?
Latest version has built in backups!
Hi @TechHut, there is a frame around 3.45 where the people in your Immich library are not blurred out. You might want to take a look at that.
Also at 3:09
lol the latest game is "Help Brandon not dox himself"
He received it, now downvote this
I'm currently using it on my home server, but I hate that I cannot upload a single photo from the mobile app, but only entire albums😔

Very cool and thanks for the documentation page!
Tried it. wsl Ubuntu, Docker Desktop. Immich all of them ate a big portion of internal ssd (that is approaching its limit).

Did you compare to PhotoPrism? If so, knowing why you went with immich would be helpful.
The permission admin is infuriating in photoprism but I also like the raw support
Immich has its own companion apps for mobile devices FYI
Check out memories if you haven't! Better IMHO
This looks great, gonna give it a try!
That’s the best, please support them by buying a support license

Immich handles this
autosync works, but immich will not autodelete photos from your phone to save space the same way google photos does.
You were referring to Immich vs Synology Photo. How would I refer to Immich vs NextCloud Photo?
I'm curious about that as well!
Cant decide if i want to use ente or immich
I'm loving Immich

Does it support RAWs? I finally found a local hosted solution that supports the .ARW format, but it was a big task
Yes, we have multiple raw file support
Can this be run as a standalone on Pi 5? I do not use Docker or Portainer or any of those items?
the video I needed. THANKS!
Can you do a video on tube archivest? On unraid
+1 for the uncensored frame at 3:09
I'd love to hear how you use NC with/in conjuntion with Immich

Is this only for new pictures? What if you have a picture files you want to include? Do i have to put all my pictures into upload folder?

I use tailscale on my server which is a reverse proxy for my family to upload and access photos from other states.
@@WhyitJellyDonut I've seen that option, but doesn't that require your family to have the tailscale client running on their device?

Not sure if you are aware that you can use Samsung gallery to back up to OneDrive
Given the premise of the video, to what end?
Does anyone know anything similar available for a Windows install please?
i lowkey wish synology photos were like this
what feature is syn photos missing that you like here ?
Biggest issue with all these solutions is backup. Not really sure what the best option is for that.
Oft site truenas cronjob
Why not nextcloud?
This has the mapping feature and better organization
Louis Rossmanns also claims it‘s way faster
I preferer Nextcloud Memories
Hey @TechHut - maybe, just maybe, using the phrase "final solution" isn't the best idea.

Didn’t they sold it to some rich guy and will make it paid service?
