Wow, I'm going to have to get David J's book. He's had such awesome experiences with so many larger than life characters. I noticed that X was on that bill as well. John Doe is supposed to be at a show in Austin this weekend and I'm so stoked to finally get to see him live. Meet John Doe was a favorite album as a teen and I love my X records. Sorry for going off topic... If David J was in awe then you know that the Cramps were truly something live.
I know right! I was blown away that they were so intimidated by her. They were already legends, in my mind! Yes- its a great book. GET IT! (It was on sale on amazon recently)
I worked at a gas station in 1983 and one day my coworker said that these two people got gas in a crazy old car and he described what they looked like. I brought my copy of Gravest Hits to work the next day and he said that was definitely them. I had been listening to the Cramps since about 1980 and was really bummed i didn't get to meet them.
Met Ivy and Lux in LA back in ‘98….maybe the greatest moment of my life! David you should’ve spoke with her man….she was as nice as one could possibly be! I’d be nervous to talk to you as well I suppose …..Bauhaus were life changing for me right along with the Cramps! Met Peter once and was less than thrilled….not a very nice person is he? Still one of the best frontmen to ever sing a note……loved you guys man!
I’ve been into music and art most my life as an artist and a fan and the Cramps were an absolutely amazing band and some of the best shows I’ve ever been to 👍💯
So, so cool. I remember watching "So Alive" on 120 Minutes in the 8th grade and being wowed. It was so catchy but didn't feel like pop. It was something different. This was a great interview. Thanks
Re: Lux vomiting at Daze of Future Past, I recall he went back to the drum riser where there was a pint of milky fluid, which he necked before returning to the front of the stage to redeposit the contents. There was something of the James Brown drama about his schtick.
My friend & his girlfriend ran into Lux & Ivy in Hollywood. My friend was petrified of meeting them but his girlfriend did while he hid(they were in a record store). She said they couldn't have been nicer and Ivy complimentex her on her handbag. My friend was a little strange as he refused to go see them them live with me in 95ish on the Flamejob tour in San Diego at Soma Live because it wasn't the original lineup.
What is Peter Murphy's deal? I dont know much about him personally-but I luckily DID get to see that last SF show a couple years back. Apparently he didnt even make it through the rest of the tour so I was lucky to see it at all. I think he might have done 10 dates or something...It was cool finally getting to see my cherished band, it felt tbh a bit phoned in EXCEPT at the end when they did TRex and Spiders...that shit had me crying in the stands! hahah God bless em...
Great interview. Out of curiosity what's your opinion of the band Macabre? They are one of my favorite bands of all time. It'd be awesome if you made a video on them one day. 🤘
@@rocdocs I highly recommend the albums Sinister Slaughter and Dahmer. Yeah they wrote an entire concept album about Jeffrey Dahmer. Corporate Death the singer and guitarist in the band even attended Dahmer's trial. They are a death metal/grindcore band but they play other genres as well.

I saw The Cramps over 120 times and only a couple of bad shows. I met Lux and Ivy a number of times and they were so much fun and super nice.
David J is one of those folks I've always wanted to meet. Such a fascinating fellow..
He’s a great guy. One day I’ll see him Dj in LA
@@rocdocs I honestly ordered the book before the video had even ended… it’ll be here Sunday!

LOL, I came to this video because of the Cramps, but now I feel as if I should seek out some more interviews with David J. What a great guest.
He is! In fact, he's been on a few times: Here are all of our videos with DAVID J in one playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLWN_GRAyd8MS6snxYYoXv4OgohBvLk25A
0:17 Holy shit! Look at that lineup!

She was a giant force of nature...so cool, even other musicians were kinda afraid. Way better story compared to the usual stuff! Bravo
THanks J. Check his other interviews here, hes great
David J is the ultimate fan boy genius. Thanks for sharing.
Such a down to earth, humble and kind guy. And funny!
What a fun story about the cramps and peter!
really great- coming soon, his tales of Siouxsie and The Clash!

No kidding!
Poison Ivy - look don't touch. She chose the perfect name for her persona.
David J...
One of the Greatest Bass players of all time!!...
Agreed
Killer stuff man

David J,s solo albums are fantastic especially crocodile tears and the velvet cosh
What is David Js absolute best record in your opinion?
@@rocdocs crocodile tears and the velvet cosh is among my favorite albums ever ..
Particularly enamored of Ivy. Aint that the truth! Lux was a charismatic front man, but Ivy was something else.
So true!

Watch the other David j videos - he’s so great to talk to
Long live Edie 💚
I wish Id asked about that, it might be one of his paintings
Great interview. Out of curiosity what's your opinion of the band Macabre? They are one of my favorite bands of all time. It'd be awesome if you made a video on them one day. 🤘
I'm embarrassed to say I have heard of them but haven't really heard them. I will check them out- thanks

@@rocdocs It's all good. Nothing embarrassing. You find bands/artists when you find them. Hope you dig em 🤘
Was Murphy's hostility to The Cramps due partly, perhaps more than partly, to his jealousy of Lux?
I think so? Yes.
Makes sense peter Murphy didn't wanna watch lux perform...
Why do you think? Jealous?
@@rocdocs yes... Lux was like a rock god .. rip to lux and best wishes and love to Poison ivy
I'm afraid of Americans.
I'm afraid I can't help it
I'm afraid I can't
Taxidermy, really? I am pretty sure Murphy is a bit ashamed of that. Get a sense of humour, you are all in show business.
Are you scolding David J? :) thanks for watching
Love poison ivy god bless her
Are you a fan from the day I just found out about this magic ✨✨✨✨
