- K-pop singers have been pretty much dominating the music scene in Asia for many years, laying the foundation for K-pop acts like BTS and BLACKPINK to become major in the region and beyond.
And behind the huge popularity of K-pop music are the South Korean entertainment agencies, notoriously known for the mind-blowing intensity of hard training they expect their trainees to endure in order to reach perfection. Members of major Korean idol groups are mostly expected to have received over 4 years of training.
This unique management system can only be found in South Korea. And ShowBT, a Seoul-based entertainment agency that later branched out to the Philippines, has tried out an experiment by becoming the first Korean agency to bring that training system to the Philippines.
Soon after ShowBT unveiled its first Filipino boy band SB19, a K-pop-inspired all-Pinoy boy band, the group immediately started to receive enormous support on social media. Their latest single ‘Go Up’ has gone viral on RUclips, garnering 4.4 million views.
The band already has more than 400,000 followers on Facebook, more than 165,000 followers on Instagram and over 146,000 Twitter followers.
“As a group, we look up to BTS.” Member Sejun said during an interview with The Korea Times at the ShowBT office in Manila. They hope to become the first Filipino boy group to be globally recognized and show Filipino talent to the world.

Well, this video just proves that they are not just talented individuals. They are eloquent and full of wit. They are conversant and so fluent in speaking the English language. BUT I can say that they are still underrated. If you guys can support K-pop idols, why can't we support them? They deserve it. They deserve our attention.

The fact that they can all slay English language, they can also sing in Korean language, I would not be surprised if they will be fluent oneday. On my own opinion, I believed that they will be popular internationally. 💙🇵🇭

This has been long overdue. I hope more news agencies in Korea do more interviews with them. Our boys need to practice speaking English more, though, coz I feel there will be more interviews coming from the international media in the near future as they gain more traction in the Philippines and on social media.

I think they're quite good in speaking english, they don't need to be super fluent, as long as they can express what they want to say during interviews. I think it's cute that they sometimes grasp for words, it makes the conversation more natural and not robotic.

These networks are not that familiar with how Korean Entertainment agencies work. At least with ShowBT starting this here, we can all look forward to more idol groups and artists in the future who are trained intesively before debut.

Actually, in the music industry in the PH, how you look is not as important as how musically talented/gifted you are - be it in songwriting, composing, singing, rapping, playing instruments, etc. - as it should be!

Josh is an Army and was a part of a known filipino cover group of BTS. I met him back in 2014 in a Choreography workshop with Mr. Son of Bighit (Yes, BTS' choreographer) a day before BTS' concert.
Both Josh and Stell were part of Eon back then and are Army's.
