    My first copy of the lens made the same weird sound. I returned it and the second copy is fine. I love this lens too.

    Hi, how do you find it coupled with the Xpro3? I too have the Xpro3 and I'm trying to decide if getting the new f1.4 or stay compact and get the old f2 pancake, which is also much cheaper and apparently has similar rendering to my xf 35mm f1.4.

    • @SimonLorinser
      @SimonLorinser  Год назад +1

      Me personally, I had no issue with the weight of the f1.4 but I can imagine that the f2 version feels even better in regards of weight and balance. But I decided to get the f1.4 version because of the f1.4 and the amazing sharpness. I'd say if you're budget allows it, get the f1.4.

    That chirping sound is almost present in all fujinon lenses tbh, especially when you switch the camera on or after reviewing a picture. It's normal, but I wish Fuji fixed this with firmware

      Interesting to know, I only have this noise on my 18mm. The 16-55, 33mm are completely silent. The 56 makes noises but it doesn’t have a LM.

  • @simon359
    @simon359 Год назад +1

    Yes, I have the 18 mm and I don’t mind the sound because it’s really not that bad. But then again I’m older and may not have that hearing I used to have.
    Definitely, the aperture ring is way to loose! Too bad they don’t have a fix for it.

    • @SimonLorinser
      @SimonLorinser  Год назад

      thanks for your comment! :) The noise is not a huge issue in my opinion compared to the pros of this lens. The pros definitely overweigh the cons :) Always depends on the personal shooting style.

    Thanks for sharing, I was thinking on getting one, with comparable with 23mm ?

    • @SimonLorinser
      @SimonLorinser  Год назад +1

      I have the new 23mm f1.4 now because I needed this focal length for my portrait video work. But if I had to use the 18mm lens just for photography, it would be better for me than the 23mm.

    Just before I watch the video...Cons..? :))) That lens is perfect! And I don´t own it anymore and I don´t shoot Fujifilm anymore but as far as I can remebmer the new 18mm f1,4 an 33mm f1,4 are crazy good!

    • @SimonLorinser
      @SimonLorinser  Год назад

      Yes, this lens is fantastic and I love it :) But for some people the little noise can be an issue for video in some situations. But for photography: a no brainer.

    Fuji definitely seems to operate more like a mom and pop shop compared to something like Sony. You have their 18, 23, and 33mm lenses which all come out at the same time, but each have minor differences in build quality that set them apart. The aperture and focus ring dampening is wildly different on all 3, the focus motors make noise even though linear, they rattle when the camera isn't switched on. Just odd little things. The X-T4 I couldn't stand because the IBIS made a shrill whining noise (I tried multiple copies); at least that seems to be fixed with the new bodies. You take the good with the bad with Fuji, unfortunately. I wish Fuji's ethos and aesthetics could be combined with Sony's R&D dept and quality control. I always come back to Fuji stuff because it is ultimately more fun and inspiring to use than Sony. But these issues are annoying, and seem avoidable with better planning.

      I feel your words! I hope they can be more precise and accurate in the future, but nevertheless fantastic and inspiring products!

      You have no idea what you are complaining about. A linear motor is not dead silent, but very quiet. The rattling noise you are hearing is well, the linear motor parts because the power is switched off. The magnets don't work and they need power. Would you rather have a constant power supply to avoid this little rattling or would you rather then complain mindlessly online about the power consumption?

  • @Rosstimok

    focus motor noise is commone feature for this lens

    • @SimonLorinser

    Thats really a very nice lens... i have it, but im not sure if i can live the huge distortion of this focal length.. especially on this lens. The Viltrox 13mm 1.4 does a lot better job in this case. For people photography you cant really come that close, about 2 meters, but sure not closer, its destorts too heavy for me.
    The IQ of this one is wonderful, the best and sharpest of all fujifilm lenses!

    • @SimonLorinser
      @SimonLorinser  Год назад +1

      Oh that’s interesting to hear that the 13mm has less distortion than this one. For me personally the distortion in the 18 is not too heavy but that’s always personal taste :)

    the biggest con is that its so friggin big and heavy...might as well use a full frame kit

    • @SimonLorinser
      @SimonLorinser  Год назад +1

      I have to disagree here, a full frame kit is definitely heavier :)

    • @TheBawssThomas
      @TheBawssThomas Год назад

      @@SimonLorinser but heavier by how much? my Z6 with a 35 1.8z is 1037g while an xt5 and 18.14 comes in at 927g, that's just a 110g difference. if I use a 28 2.8z the z6 would be 835g. A full frame kit is not much more bigger or heavier...in this case I would pick a FF kit for objectively better image quality. I wouldn't complain if a fuji 35 1.4 or 18 f2 sized lens was on an XT body. The whole point of the fuji system is for a low weight small size carry everywhere system..this lens does not meet that idea.

      Good points here. I go around and around with these same issues. I have those same Z cameras (two Z6ii's), and lenses that you mentioned. I use them all and others for my paid gigs/events/weddings. However, for my personal stuff, I love to use the X-H1 and this 18mm 1.4 Fuji lens. The way I justify it is that the Fuji kit is slightly lighter than my Nikon kit, but best of all, the Fuji lenses are glorious to handle and use. The Nikon Z lenses - though they are second to none for contrast and sharpness - they have about the same ergonomics and handling ability as a roll of toilet paper!! @@TheBawssThomas

    • @mightyleafeon1907
      @mightyleafeon1907 8 месяцев назад

      But the lenses you mentioned are not f1.4. The 18mm f1.4 lets in more light than your lenses. Thus more glass.

      @gtbr8134 6 месяцев назад

      I think the same thing, you can buy a small full frame camera with a fast prime for less money and some cases even lighter weight than Fuji. Fuji wins in the looks department and maybe better experience but practically it doesn’t make sense

    • @SimonLorinser
      @SimonLorinser  Год назад +3

      I'm sure you can, but that's the standard Fujifilm is trying to achieve in terms of autofocus, so a comparison to that brands is necessary in my opinion.

    • @Kevodabomb_Media
      @Kevodabomb_Media Год назад +1

      I think the different camera systems have different pros and cons. I don’t think Fuji is trying to be Sony or canon, they will never be since they don’t have the massive R & D budget. I stopped comparing them a long time ago. I went with Fuji because I just enjoyed using it so much that I never felt like I wanted to sell it.

      Kinda funny comment. It's not the reviewer's job to protect people who are sensitive about comparing to what other brands are doing. In fact that's practically the job description of a reviewer: review the product in context of the market. That's why most of us watch product reviews.
