Oh my goodness. It’s taken me so long to find this! My dad used to put it on the record player back in rural Ohio when I was a boy. I had to search for the song through google by humming it! Then a quick search led to this! Thank you, Google!!! Oh, the memories.
Actually released in 1972, not 1967. Loved these recordings as a kid and still love over 50 years later. Puts a massive smile on my face listening to this.
lol my dad gave me this album shortly after it was released, and i can still hear the scratches and burrs that built up on my physical copy over the years of daily replay.
My dad had this album and when he passed it did not get passed along. I always thought it was the coolest. I’m 52 now amazing the things we remember from our childhood and having a parent that would have bought this unusual album.
Likewise.. Come to think of it, this album would've been my first introduction to electronic music all those years ago. Still a favourite genre of music.
My dad passed his record collection on to me many years before he died 3 years ago. I still have the album, though I don't have the turntable set up to play it. I'm thrilled to find it here. At 55 years old, I still love this as much as I did when I was 6 years old!
I haven't played this album in years, but I can still hear the pops and crackles at the appropriate spots from the very well worn LP handed down to me from my dad. Thanks for uploading this much cleaner version!
I have been looking for this album, store used it to demonstrate Mac HiFi System, I still remember the experience. Thank You for posting to RUclips, it does bring back fond memories!!
Had this on cassette back in the 70s. In my early teens, I had to listen to it every night to go to sleep. Over the decades I haven't been able to listen to any rendering of Bolero without remembering this, even hearing this performance in my mind. So thankful to have run across it after so long a time without it.
Thank you for posting this. My parents had this on 8-track cassette tape. Someone asked what were some of the first albums I ever listened to, and this was among them. I love the cover art too.
This is my mother’s favorite record. She played the hell out of it when I was growing up. It’s really bangin for getting house work done I have learned. Thanks for the upload:)
My mom in the 80s had a cassette of Bolero with one side by traditional orchestra and the other side was all MOOG... been searching for it for EVER... =)
thank you so much for posting! stole this cassette from my pops as a kid and have spent over 20 years trying to remind who, what this was almost gave up until a search for walter carlos switched-on bach took me here
I used to listen to this while doing my homework when I was in year 7 (12 yo) .I am now 45 yo and played it yesterday while truck driving and was composing to it the whole 30 min (haha ) as I’ve never forgotten it . Loved it , fond memories. Wish Spotify had it .
This seems like a very rare record. No re-releases on CD or re-issues, no availability on Spotify, no nothing. My late grandfather had a mint version of this original LP in his collection. When this COVID-19 thing ends, I'm definitely gonna visit my grandmother's house and borrow it from her!
Mom and dad came home with thier first Sears Sterio with seperated left and right speakers and Over the ear head sets. In their hands was this album. I starred at this cover while listening to the music. I was 7 or 8. As mentioned by someone else mom would play this while cleaning the house. :)) Love to try it in the car.
@@dgmelvin Found a copy of Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel for 50c in the same shop, ended up taking about 30 records home that day, it was a very good day :D
Get it converted to CD & MP3 before its to late. I did but the back half songs are more pop sounds. Not the best record. Why hasn't this been available for MP3. Not on Amazon or anywhere.
There has never been a CD made of this recording. The version here was captured from a reel-to-reel tape machine by another guy. I had the LP when I was in high school and you can still find it around. But, it is rare for it to be in clean shape. I sure wish Columbia would re-release it on CD. It would be a fun one to own.
Perhaps what you heard what is known as "print through". It can appear on any magnetic tape medium that has not been used in sometime. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Print-through
Although I own the vinyl copy of this album, I originally heard it for the first time when my oldest brother bought his copy when it was first released. It's a crime Columbia hasn't released an official CD version of this album. And I would say it's a bigger crime it hasn't been released in 5.1 surround sound. This would make a near-ultimate system demo disc. Even the vinyl version is one of the best sounding records I've come across (and I have bought plenty of half-speed mastered and direct-to-disc records in my life).
Well, I first heard it in 1971. Radio station KNUS Dallas was a free format ROCK station then and they would often spend an hour or so playing Progressive Rock (YES, ELP, King Crimson, etc) and they thru this into the mix. They played the Bolero part and I loved it and went out and bought a copy immediately. And I never knew exactly when it was released because it does not say in the liner notes. But I distinctly remember it was 1971 when I heard it.
It's amusing but to the ears of a classical music enthusiast it's a travesty. This is just one of many copycat albums that followed the success of "Switched On Bach" and like SOB it's popularity came from the plethora of strange, funny and novel sounds generated by the synthesizer and very little from the aesthetic qualities of the compositions themselves. Wouldn't it have been better if the records contained original and entertaining work that was written FOR the synthesizer?
I don't know... I'm a trained classical musician and in high school this record was really fun to me in between piano and voice practice. I also like the traditional orchestral stuff, but this introduced people (especially young people) to some serious music with a bit of humor and a new technology. The amount of work this took to produce is nearly unimaginable these days. I'm not sure anyone would take the time to do something on this scale now. But, it is all easier to do now anyway.
My Dad had this album, I'm 60 now, and I have it to this day! Memories!

I always loved this album ❤❤❤
The ending with the Moog imitating audience applause and whistles is pretty clever.
Uniquely beautiful sound to the musical ears❤.

Why? It´s horrible! It´s amazing too, but most of all it is silly! :)
WOW 1967 !!!
Had the regular Bolero on cassette and flip side was this amazing rendition! Wore out the cassette.

As a kid I had a cassette of this in the 80's. But it was updated and had flight of the bumblebees on it also. Wish I knew where that every went.
I have 2 vinyl copies of this recording ... and one is still sealed.
Just picked this up on vinyl, I already love it.
Lucky you. It is hard to find.

How well aligned are the heads on your R2R tape player? You can hear some bleeding between the quiet intro of bolero and the end of Bizet: Carmen.

Spanish music would suit as synthesized but selected ones like Espana or Bolero
