I’ve been obsessed with Rachmaninoff’s first piano sonata since i was a teenager and thought i researched all i could research. I knew about a version of this work previous to what was published but I thought all hope was lost for ever knowing more because it seemed like a dead end. All my digging suggested no known extant version of Rachmaninoff’s unrevised original manuscript. I am so curious, how did you manage to get ahold of the original unpublished work?
This is an absolutely phenomenal release, truly, that has revealed Rachmaninoff's true mastery. I think this work now sits as one of my favourites, behind only his third concerto. Thanks to all involved 🙏
