I'm glad someone said this, I love this video but damn I'm irritated that I had to take the whole dang grill off just to change some friggin bulbs. What in the hell was Toyota thanking geez lol.
Back in the day I always had a service manual to help out when replacing parts. People taking the time to provide/upload videos rocks. I found both bulb change videos online (wheel well skirt and this front grille method). Went this route where I thought I’d need full access to pull off the rubber bulb grommet and work the hold down clip. This method really was not bad at all. Nothing broke. Roughly took 2 hours to do both sides and also realized both side marker bulbs were out. This method just worked for me. (BTW - Takes 5 minutes to change my wife’s Honda Accord bulb). - Thanks for the read (2015 Tundra).
1A Auto, thanks for posting such a thorough video with detailed commentary. Those guys posting the "Change your Tundra Headlight in 7 Minutes" are breaking tabs and scratching lenses. They understandably edit all their "F-ups" but that also means a lot of video gets edited that I'd want to see ie: which steps can be tricky. I hate that it's this hard to change a light bulb on my truck but thanks to you it's still doable without taking it to the dealer any paying their crazy high prices and fees.
Thank you very much for the excellent instructions. I never expected to take the front grill off my truck to replace a headlight bulb but these instructions helped me through the process.
Great video...I was able to replace my headlights today and I didn't break anything. The most challenging part is removing the grill with the four clip on the bottom. TIP: After removing the top bolts and clips, pull the top of the grill that down just a few inches. If you shine a light into the side of the grill, you can see the top clip that you are supposed to push down on. I used a very long screwdriver to push it down and the right side popped right out...gently hold the grill up and then go to the other side and repeat. I have no idea how the mechanic knew where to push down on, I wasn't able to see the clips at all from that side.
Thanks, Worked well, even on a 23 deg afternoon! Your instructions are clear, concise, without a bunch of unnecessary blabbering!! Sadly, someone before me has broken the lower driver's side clip, I suspect the dealer because they're the only ones to ever change the bulbs on our Tundra.
Always detailed and concise directions! It's a few more steps and part deconstruction than replacing my Dodge Ram bulbs, but we'll worth it. I traded my Ram for a much more reliable vehicle,Tundra, and most likely will purchase another Tundra in another 15-20 years or 200,000+miles, which ever comes first! Thanks again for your excellent instructions!!
Thanks for the help. As one other person posted, the owners manual says to go through the wheel well, but that proved to be unworkable for me. This method worked great and was actually more intimidating than difficult. Thanks again.
I just bought a used 2018 Tundra. Left the dealership around 5pm and it got dark. No headlights. Both low beams were burned out. Went through the wheel wells in the dark in the Autozone parking lot using only a Philips head. What a PITA!!!
I recently bought my house 7 months ago and I have a 3 car garage so I wanted to do things on my own .. I didn’t want to take my truck to the shop anymore when something was wrong with it ..this video helped me out a lot I was able to follow it step my step ..thank you very much
*Disclaimer* some models, like mine, has a sensor plugged to the grille. There is a small panel on top of the grille just pry off with a flathead and unplug 1st then began the grille removal process. Overall great video helped alot, thanks. 👍

This way is much easier than going through the wheel well. Initially, followed the owners manual and it was a pain. Watched this and had both lights swapped out in 30 minutes with no issues.
Awesome video !!!! Made changing out the factory halogen bulbs WAY easier !!! Side note: I also replaced the halogen fog lights with LEDs as well , while you have the head light assembly out , you can get right to the fog light harness very easily without having to remove the clip holding the harness to change out the bulb. Thanks again for posting!!!! Saved $$$$

Getting ready to change to hid bulbs on my 2017 because the stock ones are so dim. Glad I watched this. I thought my sister in law's Prius was stupid. Toyota get your act together. Taking apart the vehicle to change a build is ridiculous.

Thank you, work perfect, can’t believe this is what it takes to change a tundra bike though🤣 I upgraded to HIDs while installing. You just can’t be gentle, pull that grill out, yank those plastic corners off, 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
So just a tip, the tabs for the grill I never was able to get to. I did end up breaking one off but it still stays in place fine. A personal recommendation is if you are looking to replace your headlights I would bite the bullet and replace the fog lamps at the same time so you can reach the tab holding the wires back with ease from above where the plastic corner panel would normally be.
Wow thanks for showing us how to do this.. I subbed. Also plan on replacing ALL bulbs once the grill is off. No sense in going through this 4 times......
I have a 16 Tundra and want to change the halogen to bright white LEDs. I thought it would be simple like MOST cars, But damn this walkthrough (great job btw!) makes me not want to touch it! To replace a lightbulb..really?

So gone are the days of easy headlight replacement, gotta dissect the whole front end for a headlight, might as well replace the lamp at the same time 😂
0 experice. I took it to my local dealership. They were charging me 150 labor only plus parts. I decided to do it. Took me 1 hour 10 mins. And that was me looking for tools to get the job done. Overall it was easy. Just need a little bit of common sense. That’s it. Good luck y’all.
To all viewers: be careful about yanking your grill and bumper off. You can and probably will break clips. These clips are molded as part of the body panel and if you break them, well, yikes. I broke one of mine while doing this to install an aftermarket grille centerpiece.
When u took the side panels out im guessing y actually did break it Not just a sound Please dont post videos for people if you are not gonna show what you did wrong also Thank for nothing
Exactly what I was thinking. Someone else posted how to replace the bulb on a 2007 Tundra and it was an easy 1 minute pop it out / pop it in job. This tear down just for a bulb is insane. Very poor design for simple maintenance procedures.
N English you can actually get to those if you unscrew 3 more bolts from the inner fender well. I’ve never had to take my grill off nor front fender panels to access my headlights. My way is much easier and faster.
Yeah sure, go buy other brands (that have drive train issues almost immediately) just because the light bulb is too hard for you to change out. The TUNDRA's drive train will last up to 1,000,000 miles, but the light bulb is too hard to change out. Wow... Brilliant!
I have a Tundra and I am unsuccessful removing the bulb from the inner fender well, as insane as it looks removing the grill is the only way to change a bulb on this truck. I probably will sell it just because of that, you would think Toyota are well thought trucks: it's just another myth: a piece of junk!
I'd rather have a hard time changing the light bulb out than having to take my truck to the dealers shop for two weeks at a time to get drive train issues repaired. Easy fix, and if you convert it to LED you'll most likely only have to do it ONCE the entire time you own it (even if you milk it for 1,000,000 miles, which is only possible with a TUNDRA). Good luck with those other truck brands! Seriously though, good luck...

Geez, I remember when changing bulbs took less than two minutes - pop the hood, change the bulbs, close the hood - those were the good ol' days.

Dang that's a lot of work just for a headlight....
Haha
Owners manual states go through area by wheel, no need to remove all these extra parts.
Going thruwheel well is tough as well I have a tundra and you can easily break the clips holding the liner in place.
@@andrewn.5117 Buy clips in advance. Any time you will need to remove plastic clips, purchase spares before the job.
Try it through the wheel well sometime, you will do it this way.
I tried it. Space was too tight. I have skinny arms and hands and it was too tight. Lol.
@@kalashnikov1343 where can you buy those clips? Advance auto?

Is this the same for the 2017 tundra?
Oh my gosh! Why does it have to be rocket science? I know why, IT'S CALLED GREED!!!!
I like the advice to not touch the bulb. I make sure I never do and replacing my 5th headlight on a 2017

If you can't follow these insanely detailed instructions, you should definitely take it to a mechanic

The dealer says , OK, that's $130 for 2 $15.00 bulbs and $600 labor
Is this basically the same as for the sequoia?
While the grille is off, remove the two baffles from your horns. They just snap off. Much louder.
I have a tx edition 14 only thing i needed to do is take a few screws from the washer reservoir and change lights
Ya buddy, I love taking the front end off to change my headlight bulb.
What about for the side running light ?
Toyota Corp should be charged for crimes against humanity for this engineering brilliance.
is crazy that you have to remove the front grill just to change the head lights.

you dont need to remove grill, just lose fender liner screws and thats it. lol
