Well i will tell you this Lass that is one of the best versions of that Song i have ever heard and for someone who is Porbably the same age as myself it just tugs at the heart strings of any decent Scots people.I Also hope that people will remember that Scotland doesnt have to get involved in Silly wars and waste all our brave young lads.Keep it going.
This song really says everything about the futility of war. Such a young singer who does this song a great justice. LET US NOT FORGET THE FALLEN. Brilliant! just brilliant!
So beautiful... and to the knobs who are arguing on your page, ignore them, delete them or hide the comments cause you have just sung a beautiful song so sadly it brought tears to my eyes
First heard this on a Men They Couldn't Hang EP in the mid '80s and loved it since then. A wonderful, poignant song and even more looking at the world we live in - nearly 100 years since the great war and little has changed. As for this version - stunning. Sung with real feeling and a deep sense of loss - great voice, great clarity and great guitar work. Impressive.
Nobody knows, it could well be a name that Eric Bogle drew out of his own mind. The soldier is symbolic of all the soldiers who died in the war, presumably given a celtic-sounding name because of the nature of Bogle's music.
One of the finest versions of this song that I found on RUclips. That is even more astonishing because it's sung by such a young person. Great work! Love you for that!
This is beautiful! I went to the battlefields in Belgium and France 3 years ago and since then this song has always hit home, especially as I found out some of my family were killed in the battle of the Somme
I stumbled on this song when I was looking at other versions, yours is by FAR the best. You have the voice of an ANGEL and I love all your other covers as well. Keep singing girl, you'll go far!
How about this, can we all agree on 2 things that are very obvious: 1)This girl has done a tremendous rendition of this song and done it very well justice. 2) This song represents (IN GENERAL) “Mans blind indifference to his fellow man”. Can we just all agree on that and call it a day,....please.
@ATCIanMacDonald i'm not sure whether she's playing in the same key but the chords are: G, Em, C, Am, D, D, C, G,. The chorus consists of the same chords but in a different order. the chorus starts in D
Your voice is absolutely wonderful. I have no idea why, but you remind me of Piper from Charmed... Which is a good thing, by the way. =) Amazing job. Brought me to tears.
There were soldiers with that name, but nobody really knows whether it was any of those who Eric Bogle was writing about. I'd say probably not, given that he states specifically that Willie McBride is 19, but it's not impossible.
I'm from France, and wish to thank you for this cover. Never the fallen of this fucking brother war, the one wich should have been the "last of the last", as people said in France... But unfortunately it was not ! Thanks again!
I am always impressed when someone can do such a fine job, from their living room, with so much studio sound out there, its hard to compare and Well you do. so Cudo's not just on the work you did there, but also in recording it well.
Very beautiful voice! :-) It's my favorite song in the context of war and its tragic victims! There is also a german version with lyrics by Hannes Wader. Peace for everyone!
Ive only just come across your covers, u sing all my favourite songs, green fields of france, song for ireland and the parting glass, im 23 and not many my age know these songs and for someone of your age to be singing them is very impressive, well done :)
used to represent everyone. It wasn't used because he was Irish. He just happened to be Irish. The name stuck in Bogle's mind probably for no other reason than it scane and rhymes with the next line
Sheena would it be possible for me to use this version of No man's land for the sound track on a memorial event video I'm creating? It is a film of a WW1 centenary vigil that we did last week at a local school?
It's more of a remembrance song than anti war. Willie McBride was an actual 19 year old soldier from Co. Armagh serving in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers (36th Ulster Division). He won the Victoria's Cross and killed in doing so at the Battle of the Somme 1st July 1916.
Beautiful ma'am. I love this song. Happy to see a beautiful young lady such as yourself honoring the fallen.

Even 12 years later this brings me joy!
Only the dead have seen the end of war.
Anyway, amazing voice. Please carry on singing.
Helmut Todtenhaupt you got that wright after ten years I'm still fighting it now. there is no winner's in war just suffering and death...
Clean . . . Pure . . . Crisp!
Beautifully delivered & honor given 2all the worlds war vets.

Nobody knows, it could well be a name that Eric Bogle drew out of his own mind. The soldier is symbolic of all the soldiers who died in the war, presumably given a celtic-sounding name because of the nature of Bogle's music.

You're really talented. Mix your vocals a little louder so they stand out more from the guitar.
Ive only just come across your covers, u sing all my favourite songs, green fields of france, song for ireland and the parting glass, im 23 and not many my age know these songs and for someone of your age to be singing them is very impressive, well done :)

Excellent!!!
very well done for singing this quite difficult song without knowing all the words and just trying to read them as you play. voice excellent.
Love this song, love your voice, just love this!:-)
it's not about an irish soldier. it's about a soldier called willie mcbride who was most probably scottish.
What a great rendition of this song! I can't wait to hear you sing some songs you wrote yourself.

Sheena would it be possible for me to use this version of No man's land for the sound track on a memorial event video I'm creating? It is a film of a WW1 centenary vigil that we did last week at a local school?
It's an anti-war song. Not a british or Irish song. Therefore it should be applauded.
