Very sad news to hear of the death of Christy Dignam ...'everybody hits you ..everybody knocks you..'thanks to Killarney's Don MacMomagle for capturing these precious moments of music and song from the late Christy Dignam and to Liam O'Connor and his daughter and friends who made this into an ungforgettable impromptu concert in Killarney that is now part of the legacy of the late Christy Dignam...condolences to all his close family friends and fans all over the world for the loss of one of the greats in Irish and Rock music..

Hi Paul I am an old Irish guy also.. living the west coast of Ireland.. was taken by your comments.. I was a seafarer for most of my life.. a sea captain. I first visited Australia in 1964 Melbourne when I was a teenager and had a great time there it was the time of the swill hour when the pubs were open for two hours only- no passports needed for seafarers in those days.. young people today have no idea.
What i wanted to say was you should check out irish hurling.. a great irish sport.. in fact the fastest game in the world played on a green field.. and all by amateurs.. a lot of them like you with your name Brennan coming from that great county Kilkenny.. the home of hurling and the Brennans. Id heard of Aslan about 15 years ago. Was kinda a passing take it or leave thought. But started to find out more about Christy in the last few years. Started listening to Aslan, read up more on his life, what he's been through. I think he's a credit to himself and an amazing singer/songwriter. I wish I'd paid more attention to him earlier.
I only discovered Christy a few days ago while mooching around youtube - i've watched various interviews and performances, he is just such a lovely person and great singer, just think what I have missed all these years

In America, most people have no clue about WWI and certainly not this song and here is a crowd of people singing along to this mournful song. Folk music is the only thing that keeps history alive, too bad humans refuse to learn from it.
Looking back to the early middle ages the Irish Church and monks supposedly saved Christianity for Europe..some say same is happening again but in a different way.. in a cultural way...one thing is you can say about the Irish - they are different

This is a sad and true song. Everyone should hear this song at least once and it reminds me of all those who suffered and died doing what they believed was a war to end all wars. The words in this song tell everyone why we salute those who fought for freedom. Brilliant song, sung so well and the haunting tone of the accordion works so well. First saw them in Killarney in 1988/9....Feel No Shame was the first album I bought and is one of the best ever produced..
