Home work question's answer':- 1.osmosis:Glauber’s (Na2SO4.10H2O) salts is an osmotic phenomenon. Also, withdrawal of water from the body causing dilution of the intestinal contents. 2.Plasmolysis:-'tis is involved in killing of weeds in lawns, orchards and agricultural fields by chemical weedicides...... I'm first to comment!!!!
Hi my question is from ambika mam about the 3 terms that are turgidity, plasmolysis and flaccidity. In the session u have told that when there's low water concentration outside the cell then plasmolysis occurs but in the book they have mentioned that it occurs when the cell is placed in hypertonic solution. Secondly, the shrinkage from the cell wall is called plasmolysis and the cell in this state is said to be flaccid and it is the condition in which the cell content is shrunken and the cell is no more tight then how u can say that there is equal water concentration outside and inside. Thirdly in turgidity the cell used to swell up when it is placed in hypotonic solution but u have said that when there's high concentration outside the cell
hypertonic solution means that the concentration of solute is comparatively more in the surrounding but it also means that concentration of water is lower in surrounding thus, plasomolysis occurs thus, the stuff written in the book is sounds apt . And because of this reason only watering the plants is very much essential I hope you understood . And sorry if you got offended
Ma'am in 32:50 , you asked the question that what will happen when a cell is placed in a solution where the conc. is less which means that it is a hypotonic solution so endosmosis should take place..but then you told that this will cause the cell to shrink but when we place a cell in hypotonic solution then it tends to swell up not shrink
Yes. This is because the molecules of a substance will move from a region of high conc to low conc through direct contact. If it is not kept in direct contact then diffusion will not happen only. For example, if we keep water and sugar cube separately without any direct contact, then diffusion will not happen. But if we keep it in direct contact then diffusion would obviously happen. I am a student of ICSE Kolkata class 10.

Mam my doubt is that in the cell membrane structure I can see circles and hair like structure arising from it , can you tell me what it actually is ? And about it's properties.?
Aquatic plants have all sorts of adaptations. For eg they'll have a waxy cuticle which make sure that the water does not come in direct contact w the cell
I have a doubt that Osmosis is movement of water molecules from a reason of higher concentration to lower concentration Then why in endosmosis there is inward diffusion of water when the surrounding solution is less concentrate i.e it shows movement of molecules from lower to higher not higher to lower And Vice versa in exosmosis
manas dutta actually it's correct. I was also confused over this for a while but Hypertonic solution here means solution outside has higher concentration of solute (not higher concentration of solvent) that's why the fluid flows out to balance the excess solute present outside and the cell shrinks similarly in case Hypotonic solution, solution outside has low concentration of solute( not lower concentration of fluids) that's why the excess fluid flows into the cell and the cell bloats. Hope I makes sense 🙂
When water move from higher concentration to the low concentration of the raisins, shouldn't the solution be hypertonic as the molecules of the water are in higher concentration outside the cell
No, actually in case of raisins the solution will be hypotonic( which means the solution outside has low concentration of solute). The confusing part here is that hypotonic here means low concentration of solute( not low concentration of solvent) and the water outside obviously has low concentration of solute that is why the solution is hypotonic. And endosmosis always occurs in a hypotonic solution. I was also confused over this part since a long time but I finally figured it out. Hope it was helpful 🙂
. Flaccid cells are those whose protoplast has no turgor pressure. Plasmolysis cells are those whose protoplast has no turgor pressure and is also shrunken
Here many keywords in the definition are not mentioned for example imbibition if the surface attraction due to which water molecules gets attracted to the membrane .
Ma'am Doubt - When Cell are soaked in hypotonic solution, the concentration of substance is low and conc. Of water is high outside. So the substance that enters the cell is water or the substance.?

Mam, what is the easiest and the most clear difference between ENDOSMOSIS and IMBIBITION??
Please please please please please reply
There is....
Imbibition can be absorbed by both dead and living plants but endosmosis only by living plant
Imbibition occurs in surface of cell whereas endosmosis is outside to inside diffusion
