"They lie in all the pools, pale faces, deep deep under the dark water. I saw them: grim faces and evil, noble faces and sad. Many faces proud and fair, with weeds in their silver hair. But all foul, all rotting, all dead",
I didn't know til now of Taverner's passing and I'm sorry to learn this. He made some truly beautiful music. "What earthy sweetness remaineth unmixed with grief? What glory standeth immutable on earth? All things are but shadows most feeble, but most deluding dreams."
Whole combinations of these sounds makes us think of extinction, in spite of that idea of death we feel a mystic peacefulness rather than a fear and anxiety. Besides the atmospheric contribution of human voice that we have by the choir, the composition has a simple obscured mathematic by itself.
I once had a dream in which I died, not in a brutal way, peacefully, I remember how dying made me feel like, and this song is exactly how dying feels like. An immense sorrow to not continue what you started, yet a feeling that this is the end, and you'll never know anything past that moment, everything that's around you is going to be the last thing you'll ever see. You feel like you know this is it, this is the end. You would've liked to end in another way, but it's too late to think about future or whatever thing you could do because this is the end. So you peacefully leave.
its very harrowing isn't it. the best I got was by typing "lord of the rings dead marshes"...it's supposed to be inspired by Tolkien's time in the trenches
Athiest = He who hopes god does not exist because if he does boy is he in trouble. Believer= He who picked a god-flavor and hopes he gets Gods name right, because of he picked wrong boy is he in trouble Truth= Live a good life and be good to people, that way whoever god is he finds you to be a decent guy, and if he doesnt exist at least people remember you fondly.
It isn't a painting. It's a screenshot from Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. It's the body of an Elven soldier who fell during the War of the Last Alliance when Elves and Men made war upon Sauron after the forging of the One Ring and the destruction of the Elven Realm of Eregion and the destruction of the great human realm of Numenor, also due to Sauron's influences. The primary human realms involved in it were Anor and Gondor, the Kingdoms-in-Exile of the surviving 'Faithful' Numenoreans who hadn't fallen to Sauron's influence. The soldier's body is preserved beneath the surface of the 'Dead Marshes' which border Mordor, the land in which Sauron made his capital. So devastating was the Battle of Dagorlad in which the soldier died that even after their victory the Elves would never again be able to muster in such force.
But he's clearly an elf, they're the only ones with the leaf-mail armour and he's under the water of the marsh. I saw the movie only the day before I commented and I clearly remember him being in the Dead Marshes. The Army of the Dead didn't look like that, at least not in the movie
Yang Garuda Kuno No it isn't. The is specifically in the bog just outside Mordor. Frodo was entranced by the dead and fell into the water when he looked into the eyes of one of the preserved dead.
Who is to say life, whatever it may be, is simply being and by being we live. Death is simply the act of not being, to fade and become nothing. What our lives are, what they mean, is simply that we are, we know not why or how, but we believe we are in being. To sum it up, life is not something humans were meant to understand, nor death, nor anything else, rather we are only in being for the sake of being, for the sake of living. Whether we know god or not, whether we demand he is or is not, it does not matter in the end when we as humans were never designed to understand it. We are weak frail creatures, within this reality, we make the same mistakes over and over again because we fear that we are nothing, that by being we become specs in the large and vast universe. So we try to say an infinite amount of words, trying to decipher a simple question, why? Why? It is ironic is it not? We are so focused on trying to find a reason for being, try to hide from our own mortality, run and evade every problem coming our way, because we're so afraid that in the end it does not matter. So what? I am in being, I live for no one, for nothing, I am nothing, yet I can still admire all that is, I can still look to each and every one of you and see both a saint and sinner, I can think of ideas, I can have opinions, so what if I wear a mask? I wear it with pride! I chose my own self, I chose a reason of being, I became the very embodiment of thought! You are no different, but the path you chose, the reason behind it, that is what separates us. So do not fear you're demise, don't fight against the reality you see before you, embrace it, learn to understand that when all is said and done we only have one thing that we can choose, one thing that we can change and that is the mask we chose to wear.... This music is just tearing me up... T-T
Don't forget we have natural laws: the laws of nature, even morality of what is right and wrong, good or evil; therefore, there has to be a law giver, which is our Father in Heaven, our creator who judges us when we die. Jesus Christ died for our sin. Have faith that he is our savior and call upon the Lord, and you will be saved, reborn in the spirit with eternal life. No religion necessary.
+Hamza Khan well, we all have to die at some point its part of living for 99 years or how good your health is u could live up to 67 years u never know, but the time you die u wont notice, you might be born as another child or you might be in heaven u never know, i do beleive in god but i do not pray or go to church but i do believe that when we die we might be reincarnated
+Hamza Khan We all have to die. It is nothing to be scared of. Spend some time meditating, or just thinking about the impermanence of all things. Face your fear, it's just your human body that dies, not who you are. You exist today because 6 or 7 thousand generations have died and passed on thier DNA to you. that's 160,000 years, by the way.
+Hamza Khan unfortunately, or fortunately maybe, it's the only certainty. It's not such a lonely path though. More than 100 billion people are dead right now, funny way to look at it.
You will NEVER die. You'll only transition into a different state of existence. So, relax and do your best to live in harmony and peace with EVERYONE+EVERYTHING around you.
There's a problem with your reasoning. The fact that there are literally thousands of religions, any single one of which is equally valid. The fact that there are so many simply is another factor in supporting my hypothesis that there isn't actually a God. Frankly, not believing in one is the best way to go in my opinion, rather than worrying about whether one exists. Even if one does exist, and one of the THOUSANDS of religions are correct, I'd rather go to hell than follow oppressive laws.
Why bet on faith meaning nothing when you wont even be consciously aware to gloat after death if there is nothing, while if I am right I can at least feel bad for you as you are judged or plead your case to get you in the door. Maybe hedge your bets and say while you dont believe god has a white beard and lives on a cloud, there may be intelligent design behind the universe and all energy possibly lives on in a new form, and possibly consciousness. Question is, do you WANT to be right?
+Tarantella 5 The meaning of life is to come to terms with your own mortality, and to help other people become aware that everything is temporary. It helps if you are older.
You got it wrong again, I said eternal pits and doctrine beliefs are INVENTIONS, these are not GOD they are RELIGIOUS LAWS and STRUCTURED BELIEFE SYSTEMS, fictional machines made to organize faith. One can argue against Church and Religious Rules all day without ever disputing god. Thats like hating electricity because your power company overcharges you. God doesnt rule over you, those are man made god concepts. Im talking a CREATOR. Your problem is not with god, its with rules written by men.
there is nothing you can do after this point mere mortal, as they are you shall soon be...your are to witness a colossal brain fart of the likes of which you have never seen...BAN..KAIIII!!!!
All religions search for a union with God. Every single one of them. The laws, the fringe, is just that. Fringe. When you listen too music like this, it lifts you up, and takes you closer to the Godhead. It does not matter if you believe in Him or not.
You are confusing GOD with Religion, oppressive laws come from human interpretations and doctrine, those things are structured belief systems, not GOD. So you can absolutely say all RELIGIONS are fictional without saying you are an atheist, it makes little sense to say God doesn't exist because humanity cannot fathom or define who the creator is, you are judging beauty of a flower by the quality of the eyes looking at it.
Why are youtube atheists always the least-tolerable, most easily-upset bunch? Like, we get it that you think you're superior because you have a different worldview, but there's no need to project it all over every video on the site, no matter how irrelevant it may be.
The only thing more delusional than an inflexible zealot from a religious group is an atheist who denounces what he cannot see, because he assumes in his arrogance that because he cannot sense, feel or measure a thing it cannot exist. So God cannot exist because you cant feel him, and to say he is not real is your way of running away from the chance other people may have a spiritual sense you lack. The only truth here is that neither if us can prove or disprove the belief we have unless we die.
you just tainted the face of reason and rationale with your aggressive and uncompassionate demeanor. i guess you may have experienced the worst in religion but there is a lack of the good to balance out your scope of view in terms of religion and morality. us humans are in this together and maybe someday we will let go of the ghosts of our past to make way for the dream and wonders of the future. peace and acceptance to all that happen to stumble across this video. :)
"They lie in all the pools, pale faces, deep deep under the dark water. I saw them: grim faces and evil, noble faces and sad. Many faces proud and fair, with weeds in their silver hair. But all foul, all rotting, all dead",
RIP John Tavener. It's a pity that I discovered his music so late in life.
Some people think its all about themselves and their pointless debate.. the only thing worth listening to is the music.
I will await as sincerely
I must sing pouring into my heart for lifetime
Wether in God you trust or not, music like that makes you feel your own uniqueness.
first time music has brought me to tears in a really long time
I didn't know til now of Taverner's passing and I'm sorry to learn this.
He made some truly beautiful music.
"What earthy sweetness remaineth unmixed with grief?
What glory standeth immutable on earth?
All things are but shadows most feeble, but most deluding dreams."

very soothing and vivifying!

2:22 makes me cry. it sounds like hopelessness and life wasted and is anything worth it in the end as you watch your life flash before you.
sounds a lot like self-pity. Don't do that to yourself.
Beautiful upload !
Thanks a lot
Nowness - In residence - Ricardo Bofill, FCK YEAH! SO GOOD!

Amazing!
Eerie but beautiful, like dying and being welcomed into heaven by angel voices.

is there a way to clip this piece? I only want to keep a part of it, not all song
+eonvee375 thank you
It's a still from the third Lord of the Rings movie, Return of the King. Very sad part of the movie, actually.
what the name of the picture?
So on count of 3 we both die and settle this....1......2.......3..DIE
If you ceased to exist completely and had no soul, you win. Congratulations.
The painting intrigues me. Who is the artist?

Nathan O'Donovan Actually it is a member of Army Of The Dead which is in the haunted mountains. Led by the King Of The Dead.
But he's clearly an elf, they're the only ones with the leaf-mail armour and he's under the water of the marsh. I saw the movie only the day before I commented and I clearly remember him being in the Dead Marshes. The Army of the Dead didn't look like that, at least not in the movie

I love how people are arguing over whether god is real even though god hasn't even been mentioned in this video.
well, he's mentioned multiple times in the lyrics.
At what point did i try to insult you or God?
Why do I even watch this?
