I like how you don't completely shit on these older vehicles just because you drive a nicer car. For being almost 20 years old, and a Ford, this is actually pretty nice.
Of course my friend, in fact I prefer some of these older vehicles to many of the newer cars from a pure driving perspective. Most of the expensive cars today aren't even worth it, only a handful of the expensive turds are worth it. And yes this truck actually drove great, some suspension tweaks would be nice but other than that it's solid
Lmao. The 5.4 triton is one of the best engines ever made. The supercharger was the cherry on top. They are 500,000mile drive trains. Solid solid trucks
Mine has 350k on it & still runs like new! Has had a lifter clatter on cold startups since around 80,000 miles! Changed plugs at about 225,000 miles! 1 idler pulley failure & that’s it! And yea, I luv that sound! Not 4 sale! LOL
I had a 2004 lightning I had to sell it because it was a 2dr but I said if I get another truck I would get that one or a 2008 f150 saleen supercharged I love that 5.4 Triton supercharged motor it was extremely powerful and fast.
I own build #225; with 350K miles on it, just recently had the engine rebuilt…with a bunch of goodies and had the block bored over…original Eaton Supercharger sent out to be ported and polished…interior still looks as good as the day I picked it up from the dealership
Just bought an 02 hd f150 #06100, odometer says 150k but after some research on the vin I’m thinking it’s well into the 200ks, couldn’t tell from driving it things runs sick and way more comfortable than any other old truck I’ve owned, gunna do some regular maintenance on it and hope for the best
That vintage Ford were/are pretty durable, but the looks didn't age well, and they drank fuel. I sold mine at about 130k and fuel, brakes, and tires were the only thing I had to do. The cab was very quiet and the ride surprisingly smooth. They could take a beating. At the time that's what I needed. Another great review, I never know what your going to do next, at 250k and still going, you have to give it credit for that.
Good review Kevin!👍 I have driven and worked on this generation of Ford truck plenty, they really aren’t too bad. To be honest the biggest turn off with this particular one is the name, I love the lightnings but I never really saw the connection of a pick up truck and an iconic motorcycle brand, it was such an obvious marketing ploy to me even when they first came out. However I actually know of a few Harley Davidson owners who bought these trucks so I would say they were a success for Ford and probably a decent enough truck to own. I actually really like the King Ranch Ford trucks from this era, really nice interiors.
I have an 02 HD with 195k miles....this truck is a highway cruiser...take it out of O/D on a freeway and see who could pass you up...and the pull is Locomotive strong!
A friend of mine bought a 2008 Foose, not something we know much on down here but I've seen some videos on the Foose company. Australia certainly doesn't have the big truck thing like you guys we are in the SUV and the what we call the Dual Cab Ute ie Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger. Again love watching your videos always something different. Cheers Brenton 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Why was the SVT Lightning’s 5.4L supercharged V8 detuned for the Harley Davidson F-150, producing 340 hp/425 lb-ft instead of the Lightning’s 380 hp/450 lb-ft?
They had to de-tune the engine to prevent detonation while towing. I guess they figured the people buying a supercrew lightning might wanna tow something from time to time. I got a ‘03 shamu. Love driving her still 6 yrs later. Great trucks
The only difference is the pulley on the supercharger is a tad smaller on the Lightning which gives it 2lbs more boost. The Harley makes 6lbs and the lighting 8lbs of boost in factory form. Tuning and modding is no different on the Harely than the Lightning, just a bit more weight to move.
I had an 05 F150 Supercrew Lariat. It was a fun truck. Ket falling apart every third time I drove it but man, once you on highway speeds it frigging goesssss. Like 80mph was the cruising speed and it was whispering, except for the mud tires I had on it cause then shits were whirring and making all kinds of sounds lol. It had a quiet Flowmaster 50 series that was puuurfect. 5.4 Triton V8. Fun when I had it
Yea Im so glad you noticed thanks for the kind words regarding my new AP... Yea right 😅😂 it's a casio Gshock with metal strap mod lol look up "Casioak" when you get a chance 🤣
Yea they did a surprisingly good job with the strap of the watch really does look like the real thing. But thanks 😅 when I saw this it was too entertaining to pass up. Appreciate you stopping by on the vid
You shit on this thing lmfao. It’s in great shape for the mileage. And the head rest TV’s were not factory. Possibly a dealer option but I’ve never seen it. The controls on the back of the center console are for the radio.
@@MeynMotorGroup I got an 02 with the 5.4 and when I manually shift it picks up much faster. Its because you can wind out the gears longer and stay in the powerband longer too
Yea I know it's def important to be in the power band I just wish it would be more snappy in response but even in auto I don't mind it it's fun to floor it and listen to the motor. Has a ton of character and is more fun than a lot of the new garbage out today even more so than the high hp crap too this is usable
@@MeynMotorGroup yep. My buddy has a 2019 audi A4 turbo.. I took him for a spin in my truck. He was laughing so hard and was gripping the handle for dear life. He said it was more fun than his Audi (not faster ofc) but you feel the raw torque and power more. I was very proud of the old girl haha no technology bs just raw untamed power
@@roberth912 Exactly that's what I was saying in this review idk of you got to the part where I mentioned stuff like the C8 but a lot of these new cars they seem great on paper and specs but truly are not rewarding to drive. And that's why I try to feature stuff like this, cars from the 90s and early 2000s are so enjoyable to drive
Funny I just got the exact same truck and was told the mileage was 150k yet the carfax said it should have 195k based on its title history so who knows how much it actually has, thing drives good tho and is a fuckin beauty, fuckin weird I just noticed mine has the exact same crack In the top on the grill too
That was like earth shattering for back in the day 😅 and I'm sure they wanted to keep it underpowered so it's reliable. It's easy to squeeze power out of a boosted motor at the expense of a warranty
Yea there really wasn't a point in supercharging this if it's only going to make 340 hp in a near 5,000 lb truck. Naturally Aspirated motors make more than that. But I guess you can have fun modifying it at the sacrifice of reliability

Man that supercharger sounds good.
Yea louder exhaust would make it epic
That’s still the truck I’ve always wanted to own. I’m not a fan of F150 but that one is definitely an exception!

Yea def solid truck this supercharged motor made it to 250k which is very impressive. It helps that they detuned it like this
Yeah I found a black and silver one with 3000 miles on it and bought it. Drives good a little hard on premium gas but nice.

Why was the SVT Lightning’s 5.4L supercharged V8 detuned for the Harley Davidson F-150, producing 340 hp/425 lb-ft instead of the Lightning’s 380 hp/450 lb-ft?
Because if this made as much as the lightning then there would be no point for the lightning to exist that’s why
@@MeynMotorGroup And it likely would have cannibalised SVT Lightning sales as a result.

No, only the 2002 & 2003 came supercharged.
