One word GREED!! I'm done. Have a great day!!

The cost of dirt racing has gotten completely unaffordable!! $10K for 4 shocks, engines, tires, chassis, etc it has priced the working man out of the game. Cash Money Late Models have the right format. Spec tires, spec sealed shocks engines are open because you have to work on your shit and make it hook otherwise the high horse power doesn't do shit. This is why young people and working class people cannot afford to race. Good job Herm!! You are always entertaining.

Every single Dat another company is going into bankruptcy. There have been more business bankruptcy filings in the past 3 years than any time in history. And it started the moment biden killed the pipeline deals. When he signed that executive order he instantly put 1 million people out of work. That was in his first couple hours in the Whitehouse. The problem is outside of a few races a year there aren’t many big paydays…. Teams go out and get the best motors, transmissions, shocks and every other part you can think of. The problem is when it’s all said and done you will be in the hole even if you won every race you ran in. These teams are trying to treat dirt like it’s NASCAR and it’s no where close to the same beast. Sponsorship will not buy you
a winning car because it can’t, and there isn’t enough money to be won. I don’t see how these drivers and teams do it.

I raced at spoonriver occasionally in 99-2000 done very well in a super latemodel things at that time was getting expensive a 434cid at 750hp was serious money and then unless you was willing to put new tires on before every feature you didn't have a chance it all ended when I needed a new chassic and sponsor didn't want to help out. It takes 2 things a good car and a good driver that has the balls to drive it.

It really got bad on the money side back in 2008 right when you started to see the Dillon boys come into it. It was because of the bodies and alot of tech from NASCAR came into it and then you also saw alot of the engines start to come from RCR, ROUSH YATES, and other well known people. I live by Eldora Speedway and will say this once the big money came in it went down. A World 100 gets 108 cars now and in 2007 they got 203 cars we competed in it. It was $45 for the weekend Friday and Saturday and now its $120 for a 3 day pit pass. And it used to cost us camping there with food and all and pit passes gas, tires and a $25 entry fee $650 for the weekend now its $3,000 when you race 3 days. In 2007 we got $150 for not making the feature and had 20 laps on the car. Now we have 3 nights and we get total $800 and spend $3,000. We went backwards.

Scott Bloomquist said during his interview after his car was wrecked at Eldora it was a big financial setback for his team & owner. That's saying the car frame & all the parts & pieces are really expensive now to replace not too mention their was probably a $60,000 motor in the car too.

Weekly late model racing is right back where it was 25 years ago because racers are our own worst enemy. Yeah you can buy a crate but then you're spending big money on bolt on parts, light weight gears, and a shock package that's stupidly overpriced, and junking lm40s every week because Hoosier/Contentantial won't build a decent tire. All true. Things they can do, unpopular? Yeah. 1. Single tire compound soft or hard doesn't matter pick 1. 2. Engines costing what they cost. Everyone has to make $, 50k+ for 1 engine 10k+ to rebuild. Which is way too high in my opinion. 3. Shocks/spring packages tons of $ too. There could be regulations set in place that I would hope WOO & Lucas Oil could get together and to have the same package of regulations. Most big features the engine doesn't win you the race.( A running one helps) Set up and tires do. I don't ever want to see a crate in any top class. It's a top class for a reason. Maybe a spec engine option that's 30-40k would help. Just throw ideas out. I don't complain unless I have solutions right or wrong, but, regardless racing is expensive at every level. Especially if you wreck a lot.

As someone that owns a usra limited modified and races. It’s always been an inside joke between us drivers. We tell each other all the time if you want to be a millionaire racing start out racing as a billionaire. I have sponsors just like everyone else but alot still comes out of my back pocket. All of us dirt racers do this for fun and sacrifice a lot to make this happen. Me personally it’s just me my wife and kids at the track and working on the car. It’s all about the family fun for us. I popped 2 motors a year last year and already popped one this year. There was a time me and my wife actually had to set down to decide to sell my own bass boat just to fund another motor. But you are absolutely right I think alot of the drivers loose there ride over money. The cost upkeep and broken parts just isn’t out weighing the winnings. So most car owners go searching other places to try and better those odds. Sometimes it pays off sometimes it shoots them in the foot.

Its not just super late models.. at the beginning of the year outlaw sprints teams were saying is 12-15k just to get the car to the track. Not including tires fuel and whatever else breaks. Its turned into a pay to win sport

Pevely pays $1,500 at a regular night. A Mods are little less i do believe. A motor at $10,000 is a great loss. A late Model motor is about $50,000 like you said. I know the fans love the smoke or a big wreck but the cost can really put a team/ driver out thease days fast. Thorton, is a hell of a driver that sucks to hear

Well I absolutely think you are correct on this one Herm. I race out 2 local tracks and absolutely dominate both. One track told me to never come back with my imca mad because it's too good too fast! As I've told you I traded that car turn key for a turn key winged sprint and haven't raced at either local track so someone else can win. I've got other mods I can race if I want to and my kid is in one of them and he does pretty good at our 2 local tracks! Money its all about money! Money buys speed there's no doubt. Shocks alone 600 apiece and as you know that's not even buying the best!

80k for a super engine, 1500 laps it goes for a 20k rebuild.
It takes between 5-7k just to bring 1 car to the track for 1 race.

I remember hearing back in the 90's about Gary Wright winning a lot in a sprint car and got fired. Supposedly that race team was a write off for the car owner's company? I'm not a business man but, is that a tax issue???

Word on the street is that Lucas Oil is contemplating getting out of the Late Model Dirt Series business because they're hemorrhaging money. Does that mean that World of Outlaws absorb all the drivers if LOLMDS goes away? I don't know. But I have heard the same talk about lots of teams/people having big money problems in dirt late model racing.

Not into that dirt late model is the greatest crowd, much prefer nonwing, wing sprints, USAC midgets over the bodywork dirt cars. And I don't even watch Nascar anymore. The engine costs are high on open wheel stuff as well. Open wheel dirt is awesome, but they have the same issue, less purse, and expensive engines.

Not sure who your buying from but that's way out there. You can get a new Clements for 60K, Now grant you the wait list is a year out, Durham is the same, but the wait is not as long.

I'm not a race car driver myself, just a spectator. I like my NASCAR and I like my dirt track racing all the same. It kinda hurts though to seeing your #1 driver getting let go every season because they can't afford to race even though they have multiple wins. I wish I knew of a solution to the problem, but I don't. I'll sleep on it in the meantime, and maybe I'll have you something tomorrow, I doubt it though. lol!

As you know Dirt Super Late Model racing has reached the extreme in terms of the cost to field a winning team. The glass ceiling on expenses has been broken in this classification. The availability of top nautch sponsorship funding is extremely tight in this economy. Team crew members have very high expectations in terms of salary and benefits. Drivers who are winners come with a big price tags. All of the expenses related to team travel are out of sight. And track promotions are suffering, as track owners struggle to bring the fans to the tracks each week. The big dirt series purses are lacking or at least falling short the further you go down in the finishing order. Hermon your exactly right the cost of Super Late Model racing has reached a tipping point.

I am a kayak fishing pro. Getting sponsored was easy not only with equipment and money. Now it is difficult. The elites will get it. I walked away from a couple sponsors because they still wanted their name on my vessel but with limited funding. All about money these days
