June 4th, 1981. Ironically, I'm watching General Hospital. Because tomorrow, I and the rest of the world will learn that, miles away from my kitschy El Paso suburb, the city of Los Angeles was host to a new and terrifying disease.
We're diagnosing it as pneumocystis pneumonia for the time being, but soon it will earn the name HIV/AIDS. And with it, a stigma that will draw enduring social and political lines.
