Spoken like nuzzle isn’t one of the best moves in the entire game. This is tbolt with guaranteed paralysis, if it were distributed in any gen it would be immediately banned because the best strategy would always be a bulky medium speed team that spreads para and essentially gets 1.25 times more actual turns than the opponent, hell it would probably make soak a relevant move
@@ElectricWindGirlFriend don't forget that it ignores Taunt because it is, technically, an attack. The entire subset of guranteed effect attacks is interesting. We used to just have things like Zap Cannon and Dynamic Punch that have guranteed effect if they connect but also poor ability to connect in the first place, but then after we got No Guard DP Golurk one day it seems that the floodgates were opened, first for moves like Nuzzle and now for stuff like Ceaseless Edge and Stone Axe that are actual attacks in their own right.
This is actually part of a bigger issue, signature moves are awesome but they’re also often locked to one or a few Pokémon that often don’t see use or don’t use that move well and we’re left with big power gaps in the move chart when the moves exist to fill them without adding anything new. Volt tackle on the pikachu like is the most grievous offender but there a bunch of others. There are no widely distributed special flying type moves between air slash at 75 bp, 95 acc, and hurricane at 110 BP, 70 acc, while aeroblast just sits on Lugia, a Pokémon that is rarely ever used even when it’s legal in a rule set or tier. There’s so many of these really obvious holes, and I get that signature moves add flavor but the direction of Pokémon has almost always been towards wider distribution over time, entei got sacred fire for example, and a ton of Pokémon are less viable because they don’t have a decent STAB move. Playing the type split meta really illustrates this point.
I say, baisic Pikachu should have its stats buffed to those of Partner Pikachu. This will make it actually competitive with all of the 400-ish stat single-stage pikaclones like Pachirisu and Emolga, while not obsoleting Raichu. And it'll turn Light Ball Pikachu from a funny meme to a proper RU-tier threat at least. Keep the moves in LGPE tho.
The Let's Go Partners are so funny. Yes, Pikachu has a paralysis counterpart scald, a guaranteed crit stab priority move and a 30% flinch move. It's an underused tier Pokemon.
That's a bunch of them though. See literally all the good electric physical moves being signature or formerly signature and given primarily to shitmons or mons which never needed it, physical fire has a similar issue but it's not quite as bad because flare blitz is actually great and they've been increasingly letting everything have it. And there are multiple shitmons that are or were viable in high tiers for years because they got a busted signature ability. And Tinkaton doesn't deserve this fate. She should have been the pseudo legendary and/or Paldea could have given us a second one like Hoenn did as the ninth/ 3² gen.
I remember doing calcs once and with its custom stats its power is on par with Life Orb Mewtwo. Combined with the naturally high speed and the custom moves, it's honestly a little too much even with Gen 9 power creep. You can say priority moves, but Pikachu has priority of its own and most cases you're still trading 1 for 1 guaranteed.
I am eternally grateful we don’t get partner pikachu in gen 9 so we don’t have to deal with the updated zippy zap with Tera electric sword of ruin and light ball
one of the many things i learned from evevee is that the moves Vevee volley and Pika papow aren't usable in pvp play. they'd be pretty good, esp for pikachu, but sadly it doesn't get to use it.
It should be noted that Zippy Zap and all of partner Eevee's moves had their effects changed from Gen 8 onwards, though they are unusable in gameplay. Quoting Bulbapedia: Zippy Zap: Its PP was changed to 10 while its power was changed to 80. Additionally, its secondary effect is raising evasion by one stage, instead of a guaranteed critical hit. Sizzly Slide, Buzzy Buzz: Its PP was changed 20 while its power was changed to 60. Bouncy Bubble: Its PP was changed to 20, its power was changed to 60, and 100% of the damage dealt to the target is restored to the user. Glitzy Glow, Baddy Bad: Its power was changed to 80 and its accuracy to 95%. Sappy Seed, Freezy Frost: It now has 100 power, 90% accuracy, and 10 PP. Sparkly Swirl: Its power was changed to 120, its accuracy to 85%, and its PP to 5.
Major respect to PokeRogue for letting them learn these moves so my runs with Raichu are the easiest thing ever. Zippy Zap is insane. Edit: they nerfed it. They nerfed my boy. My beautiful baby boy. Now it gives +1 to EVA instead of guaranteed crit.
I'm now wondering if giving Gorochu in my future fangame a 2+ priority 75 BP guaranteed paralysis physical electric move based on Zippy Zap is a good idea ...

extreme evoboost is the only other time when these guys have been good in higher pokemon tiers to my knowledge. i guess pikachu is usable in gsc ou but good is a huge overexaggeration.

I came here to say this exactly. I get why they wouldn't want to give them all to Eevee because it being able to carry them all to each Eeveelution of choice would be nuts, but at bare minimum they could give Vaporeon Bouncy Bubble, Flareon Sizzly Slide, etc. For whatever reason, Game Freak hates the Eeveelutions and takes every opportunity to deprive them of moves, especially coverage.
@@FatherOfGrayinclement emerald let's you devolve eeveelutions for that purpose. So, if you wanted a glaceon with flamethrower for example, you could evolve your eevee into flareon, teach it flamethrower, devolve it into Eevee, and evolve it into glaceon. And there you go, glaceon with flamethrower

Let’s see how they would benefit these Pokémon in a theoretical case where they did get these moves. Let’s Go from F to S tier. F: none! All of them would benefit from their moves enough so that none would land in F tier, in my opinion. D: Sylveon and Glaceon Sylveon has better things to be doing than clearing status conditions. Typically in gen 9, it’s a setup sweeper with Calm Mind, and you’d rather run Moonbladt for that extra bit of power and the chance to lower special attack, letting you potentially sweep for a bit longer. Glaceon is just kinda shit anyway, so removing stat changes wouldn’t be very useful. That being said, it would completely shut down baton pass setup sweep teams, so it might have the tiniest niche in AG with a Focus Sash. C: Espeon, Flareon Espeon is usually a Stored Power setup sweeper, but it might be able to run this to be able to switch in and smack an opponent without having to boost first, then use it’s boosted special defense to help it set up. Flareon really needs anything it can get, and it would greatly appreciate a way to guaranteed burn the opponent. Still, once it gets that burn off, it would not have much to do afterwards. B: Jolteon Jolteon would like the guaranteed paralysis of Buzzy Buzz, and Thunder Wave would likely cease to exist in its movepool the day this happened. A: Vaporeon, Umbreon These both fill holes in their owner’s strategies. Vaporeon lacks reliable recovery and leftovers don’t really cut it, so it would eat this move up like Caseoh in a museum when he sees paintings of food. It would free up a move slot from Wish, so it could run an actually good move like Ice Beam. Umbreon is weak on the physical side but it can’t afford to run Reflect lest it be walled endlessly by the average poison or steel type. With Baddy Bad, it would no longer be threatened by the fighting types that keep it in the lower tiers. S: Leafeon This gives Leafeon good recovery that it normally wouldn’t have. It no longer would be damned to running either Leech Seed or Leftovers, and now it could realistically run Protect without Wish. I could see it being a good UU mom with a set of Swords Dance, Sappy Seed, Trailblaze, and Last Resort if it could get this move.
@@ChromaBiscuit Partner Eevee can't use eviolite, even in scenarios where a game has been hacked to either put partner eevee in a game that has held items (SwSh, for example, still has the slot for it, as do PLA, BDSP, and SV) or hacked LGPE to allow held items, as Eviolite checks if the holder's data slot has any evolutions in its evolution table (which is empty for mons that do not evolve) and if that table is indeed empty, eviolite does nothing. Even if it was a hardcoded species list like a lot of people think, "species" in the context of functionality means the same thing as "data slot." (Keep in mind this means there are 18 Arceuses and 18 Silvallys in the game data. Why? Because it's a funny thing to know.) so even then, they'd have to hardcode for it to allow Partner Eevee, which would be an intentional decision.
They could legit give regular Pikachu all of its Let's GO moves and it would still suck overall, even after Life Orb. Raichu would be cooking though, but I wouldn't expect more than one tier jump from either of them.
@@GeorgeDCowley Lightning Rod Raichu would cook deliciously! Electric E-Speed that always crits for wall breaking would be great. (The Evasion version could also be good enough to even forego Protect)
Yeah they were in context fs. In theory pretty much all of these are completely absurd and broken, but on these guys it’s way better. In hindsight I kinda oversold how good the moves are, sorry about that.
The game is also good, you're just an asshole. I'm super sorry if a game that wasn't for you didn't cater to your extremely specific niche requirements for a game, but that's a personal problem for you to GET OVER in your own time, rather than say dumb shit like "lets go bad" and make an ass of yourself. "I don't like it" is not the same thing as "it's bad"
Something PokeRogue has done is give each of the Eeveelutions and Raichu the let's go starter moves. Does anyone think this would be actually kinda cool to happen in main series?
On one hand, I'm still upset that they bothered giving all of these moves to the Let's Go starters and not buffing their evos at all. Imagine Jolteon with Buzzy Buzz or Vaporeon with Bouncy Bubble. On the other hand, I'm sad that these starters have to stay in Let's Go and not be usable versions of these weaker Pokemon. Someone pointed out that a Light Ball Starter Pikachu with a STAB, defense raise ignoring E-Speed would be too much, but honestly with the prominence of Ground and Dragon types plus Knock Off, I'd see it even falling a few tiers. It's all fun and games until the opponent sends out Raging Bolt and you can't do jack.
for what it's worth, both Jolteon and Vaporeon are already excellent in Let's Go OU (definitely better than Starter Eevee!), so they aren't missing out too much there
IDK, Helping Hand/Follow-Me, Friend Guard Clefairy w/Eviolite would be probably be permanently attached to Pikachu in doubles. Pikachu also gets access to Play Rough, Draining Kiss and Alluring Voice for Dragons and with Splishy Splash as coverage, it would literally be the icing on the cake. Partnerchu also has 120 base Spd so.... I don't deny, it would be fun as heck tho.
FINALLY the competitive scene giving a fuck about LGPE! I will happily die on the hill that it's an objectively good game that got torn to shreds by a community it WASN'T FOR. -I thought at first it was just because of its relation to GO but nope this cycle has been repeating infinitely since then and it's frustrating!- It's a game that was *for* those of us who were interested in the main series, hadn't played it yet, but had played GO. Every single complainer didn't fall into any of these categories, including interest in the main series, clearly, since we should be celebrating the games that cause notable increases in size of community. Shouldn't we WANT the GO players to experience the main series too? There'd be a lot fewer dumb questions from the GO-Only crowd if that were the case :) (Also Niantic could just. Explain how literally fucking anything works. That would help too! But we can't do anything about Niantic. We can do something about the community, and the Something to Do is to just be nicer ffs)
the wacky ahh buddy move things (????) weren't accesible to me (i played on switch lite) which made my experience so much worse. also i got stuck in the seafoam caves for 4 hours and deleted my whole file out of anger. maybe it's worth another shot..?
Having played both Pikachu and Eevee, i can safely say that while Eevee is more versatile with coverage, Pikachu is the better starter. The main caveat being Eevee being really frail with only 2 mons it can pivot into to tank a fighting type move(Gengar and Alolawak), Pikachu keeps the same frailness but can pull off insanity if it can paralyze something and can easily pivot into one of the many flying types when needed. My preferred movesets are: Pikachu (Naive Nature +Speed-SpDef) Zippy Zap Floaty Fall Splishy Splash Protect/Thunder Wave Eevee (Jolly Nature +Speed-SpAtk) Sizzly Slide Sappy Seed Sparkly Swirl/Freezy Frost Protect
For a while I’ve been a huge advocate of bringing back zippy zap as a pikachu exclusive move, I could genuinely see it being a pretty solid, albeit still somewhat niche pick in VGC
I love how they made a dark and psychic move with a good bp set screen and went “this is op we should nerf it a bit” and all they did was lower the accuracy by 5 lmao
they're perfectly accurate in Let's Go for the record! For some reason the moves have different attributes in Sw/Sh but in LGPE all the Eevee moves are 90bp, 100% Acc
My friends always ask why I bought lets go eevee instead of Pikachu. Eevee just offers better gameplay than Pikachu. If i wanted a souped up Pikachu i just replay Pokemon yellow
Man if Pikachu got Zippy Zap in an actual game, we could know the terror of Light Ball Pikachu with Zippy Zap. It probably still wouldn't be OU viable, but there are worse things to be than a mixed wallbreaker with a priority move that does similar damage to unboosted Arceus-Normal e-speed.

When are we getting “Let’s Go Furret” and “Let’s Go Ledian” for the Jhoto games? Jk, but I adore both of these Pokémon’s designs I wish they were better and had actual niches.
Controversial take, they should bring some of these moves back and give them to more Pokémon. Floaty fall is kinda dumb but it nicely solves the problem of non-bird flying types not having access to physical moves, especially dragonite and gyrados. The flying Tera hat is even balloons.
What game is this from again? Oh yeah, Pokemon Hell No you didn't just remake gen 1 for the second time but appealing to the modern climate with a move/ability/item dexit that you think the cutesy starter moves will somehow make up for.

Real missed opportunity to have them get access to only items in the game with light ball for pikachu and eviolite for Eevee, make it some sort of late game challenge that you can use to even further upgrade them
Yeah the Japanese names are cute-cool but the English translation just left the cute. Bad-Bad Zone isn't the coolest thing but it's better than Baddy Bad. Then you have the Spanish names that add the Eeveelutions' names in Eevee's moves (Baddy Bad's name translates to Umbreo-zone) and Pika in Pikachu's (Zippy Zap is Pikaturbo)
Gamefreak: "So we've added all these overpowered moves again..." Me: "uh huh, and given them to Incineroar and the legendaries" GF: "We gave them to eevee and pikachu" Me: "You're joking, that's fantastic!" (I wish the game had a hard mode that would really press your team so these moves could shine)
I didn’t see anyone talking about this, but Zippy Zap is 100% the most broken of them. It’s Electric Type Extreme Speed (yes, 80 BP) with guaranteed crit AND raises your evasion by a stage. Dumb move.
I mean, it's nice for weaker mons to have a chance again after power creep, but giving several cracked moves to the box pokemon takes out my immersion. Like, there's no real narrative reason why any other pokemon couldn't be given the same treatment, NOT to say that others should be given the same treatment. It's just a weird feeling
I def get that. the new signatures are nuts in a way that doesn't really feel in line with the games sometimes. im very focused on uniqueness when it comes to pokemon so I like it, but i could very well be in the minority on that one.
The "immersion" in this case is on the level of running around the room with a toy aeroplane, making engine sounds with your face. The realization of the kids who played yellow at such a young age that they didn't even understand that the Pikachu was weak AF because they were overlevelled by the time they made it to a gym- from days of illiterate meandering. That's why the names are so fuckin dumb, and its glorious.
I wish all of those eevee moves where back in newer games. and that all eevees can learn them and still evolve. imagine how good flareon can be with that type coverage

Nuzzle is also balanced by it being mostly on pikachu clones (like that draco-meteor tanking pachirisu...)

It would be cool to make the eevee moves the signature moves of their respective eeveelutions.
I came here to say this exactly. I get why they wouldn't want to give them all to Eevee because it being able to carry them all to each Eeveelution of choice would be nuts, but at bare minimum they could give Vaporeon Bouncy Bubble, Flareon Sizzly Slide, etc. For whatever reason, Game Freak hates the Eeveelutions and takes every opportunity to deprive them of moves, especially coverage.
@@FatherOfGrayinclement emerald let's you devolve eeveelutions for that purpose. So, if you wanted a glaceon with flamethrower for example, you could evolve your eevee into flareon, teach it flamethrower, devolve it into Eevee, and evolve it into glaceon. And there you go, glaceon with flamethrower

Let’s see how they would benefit these Pokémon in a theoretical case where they did get these moves. Let’s Go from F to S tier.
F: none!
All of them would benefit from their moves enough so that none would land in F tier, in my opinion.
D: Sylveon and Glaceon
Sylveon has better things to be doing than clearing status conditions. Typically in gen 9, it’s a setup sweeper with Calm Mind, and you’d rather run Moonbladt for that extra bit of power and the chance to lower special attack, letting you potentially sweep for a bit longer.
Glaceon is just kinda shit anyway, so removing stat changes wouldn’t be very useful. That being said, it would completely shut down baton pass setup sweep teams, so it might have the tiniest niche in AG with a Focus Sash.
C: Espeon, Flareon
Espeon is usually a Stored Power setup sweeper, but it might be able to run this to be able to switch in and smack an opponent without having to boost first, then use it’s boosted special defense to help it set up.
Flareon really needs anything it can get, and it would greatly appreciate a way to guaranteed burn the opponent. Still, once it gets that burn off, it would not have much to do afterwards.
B: Jolteon
Jolteon would like the guaranteed paralysis of Buzzy Buzz, and Thunder Wave would likely cease to exist in its movepool the day this happened.
A: Vaporeon, Umbreon
These both fill holes in their owner’s strategies. Vaporeon lacks reliable recovery and leftovers don’t really cut it, so it would eat this move up like Caseoh in a museum when he sees paintings of food. It would free up a move slot from Wish, so it could run an actually good move like Ice Beam. Umbreon is weak on the physical side but it can’t afford to run Reflect lest it be walled endlessly by the average poison or steel type. With Baddy Bad, it would no longer be threatened by the fighting types that keep it in the lower tiers.
S: Leafeon
This gives Leafeon good recovery that it normally wouldn’t have. It no longer would be damned to running either Leech Seed or Leftovers, and now it could realistically run Protect without Wish. I could see it being a good UU mom with a set of Swords Dance, Sappy Seed, Trailblaze, and Last Resort if it could get this move.
Eeveelutions don't have signature moves.
baddy bad is still the best move name in the entire pokémon franchise

@@ChromaBiscuit Partner Eevee can't use eviolite, even in scenarios where a game has been hacked to either put partner eevee in a game that has held items (SwSh, for example, still has the slot for it, as do PLA, BDSP, and SV) or hacked LGPE to allow held items, as Eviolite checks if the holder's data slot has any evolutions in its evolution table (which is empty for mons that do not evolve) and if that table is indeed empty, eviolite does nothing.
Even if it was a hardcoded species list like a lot of people think, "species" in the context of functionality means the same thing as "data slot." (Keep in mind this means there are 18 Arceuses and 18 Silvallys in the game data. Why? Because it's a funny thing to know.) so even then, they'd have to hardcode for it to allow Partner Eevee, which would be an intentional decision.
They could legit give regular Pikachu all of its Let's GO moves and it would still suck overall, even after Life Orb. Raichu would be cooking though, but I wouldn't expect more than one tier jump from either of them.
Raichu's OK in VGC, or so I hear, so it might be good there.

im playing Pokerogue and its actually really nice how Raichu gets the special lets go moves, has saved my ass alot.
I'm so glad I grabbed Pikachu in my run to fill the "Pokedex" bc it evolved and zippy zap is carrying, it's crazy

Yeah they were in context fs. In theory pretty much all of these are completely absurd and broken, but on these guys it’s way better. In hindsight I kinda oversold how good the moves are, sorry about that.

On one hand, I'm still upset that they bothered giving all of these moves to the Let's Go starters and not buffing their evos at all. Imagine Jolteon with Buzzy Buzz or Vaporeon with Bouncy Bubble. On the other hand, I'm sad that these starters have to stay in Let's Go and not be usable versions of these weaker Pokemon. Someone pointed out that a Light Ball Starter Pikachu with a STAB, defense raise ignoring E-Speed would be too much, but honestly with the prominence of Ground and Dragon types plus Knock Off, I'd see it even falling a few tiers. It's all fun and games until the opponent sends out Raging Bolt and you can't do jack.
for what it's worth, both Jolteon and Vaporeon are already excellent in Let's Go OU (definitely better than Starter Eevee!), so they aren't missing out too much there
IDK, Helping Hand/Follow-Me, Friend Guard Clefairy w/Eviolite would be probably be permanently attached to Pikachu in doubles. Pikachu also gets access to Play Rough, Draining Kiss and Alluring Voice for Dragons and with Splishy Splash as coverage, it would literally be the icing on the cake. Partnerchu also has 120 base Spd so....
I don't deny, it would be fun as heck tho.
FINALLY the competitive scene giving a fuck about LGPE! I will happily die on the hill that it's an objectively good game that got torn to shreds by a community it WASN'T FOR. -I thought at first it was just because of its relation to GO but nope this cycle has been repeating infinitely since then and it's frustrating!- It's a game that was *for* those of us who were interested in the main series, hadn't played it yet, but had played GO. Every single complainer didn't fall into any of these categories, including interest in the main series, clearly, since we should be celebrating the games that cause notable increases in size of community. Shouldn't we WANT the GO players to experience the main series too? There'd be a lot fewer dumb questions from the GO-Only crowd if that were the case :)
(Also Niantic could just. Explain how literally fucking anything works. That would help too! But we can't do anything about Niantic. We can do something about the community, and the Something to Do is to just be nicer ffs)
the wacky ahh buddy move things (????) weren't accesible to me (i played on switch lite) which made my experience so much worse. also i got stuck in the seafoam caves for 4 hours and deleted my whole file out of anger. maybe it's worth another shot..?
Having played both Pikachu and Eevee, i can safely say that while Eevee is more versatile with coverage, Pikachu is the better starter. The main caveat being Eevee being really frail with only 2 mons it can pivot into to tank a fighting type move(Gengar and Alolawak), Pikachu keeps the same frailness but can pull off insanity if it can paralyze something and can easily pivot into one of the many flying types when needed.
My preferred movesets are:
Pikachu (Naive Nature +Speed-SpDef)
Zippy Zap
Floaty Fall
Splishy Splash
Protect/Thunder Wave
Eevee (Jolly Nature +Speed-SpAtk)
Sizzly Slide
Sappy Seed
Sparkly Swirl/Freezy Frost
Protect
Sappy seed leafeon carrying my pokerogue runs alongside thunderous kick lucario
Regular Pokémon shouldn't get the signature moves of Legendaries.

For a while I’ve been a huge advocate of bringing back zippy zap as a pikachu exclusive move, I could genuinely see it being a pretty solid, albeit still somewhat niche pick in VGC
In Pokerogue Pikachu and Eevee can get these moves, wich makes them actually usable, but also other mons can use them too, floaty fall os so good

they're perfectly accurate in Let's Go for the record! For some reason the moves have different attributes in Sw/Sh but in LGPE all the Eevee moves are 90bp, 100% Acc

Controversial take, they should bring some of these moves back and give them to more Pokémon. Floaty fall is kinda dumb but it nicely solves the problem of non-bird flying types not having access to physical moves, especially dragonite and gyrados. The flying Tera hat is even balloons.

These weird superpowered moves that Partner Pikachu and Eevee have would, little did we know, end up pulling way more weight as egg move options in PokéRogue.

Real missed opportunity to have them get access to only items in the game with light ball for pikachu and eviolite for Eevee, make it some sort of late game challenge that you can use to even further upgrade them

Yeah the Japanese names are cute-cool but the English translation just left the cute. Bad-Bad Zone isn't the coolest thing but it's better than Baddy Bad.
Then you have the Spanish names that add the Eeveelutions' names in Eevee's moves (Baddy Bad's name translates to Umbreo-zone) and Pika in Pikachu's (Zippy Zap is Pikaturbo)

I didn’t see anyone talking about this, but Zippy Zap is 100% the most broken of them. It’s Electric Type Extreme Speed (yes, 80 BP) with guaranteed crit AND raises your evasion by a stage. Dumb move.
that's what its effect was changed to in Sword/Shield's code- in LGPE it's a 50bp autocrit priority move, as stated

I mean, it's nice for weaker mons to have a chance again after power creep, but giving several cracked moves to the box pokemon takes out my immersion. Like, there's no real narrative reason why any other pokemon couldn't be given the same treatment, NOT to say that others should be given the same treatment. It's just a weird feeling
I def get that. the new signatures are nuts in a way that doesn't really feel in line with the games sometimes. im very focused on uniqueness when it comes to pokemon so I like it, but i could very well be in the minority on that one.
The "immersion" in this case is on the level of running around the room with a toy aeroplane, making engine sounds with your face.
The realization of the kids who played yellow at such a young age that they didn't even understand that the Pikachu was weak AF because they were overlevelled by the time they made it to a gym- from days of illiterate meandering.
That's why the names are so fuckin dumb, and its glorious.
