So the steps to aim for that buttery factory finish, 1- apply midsole Magic’s to remove the factory paint. 2- paint a little heavy on where the poorest areas are at. 3- let each coat dry in fan method for about 5-10 mins 4- then start the sanding method with the finishing pads, you can use the scratch resistant sealer to fill up the holes etc... 5- repeat everything basically coat after coat?
No xacto. That means one of three things usually. 1. You're not prepping well 2. You're applying paint too heavily 3. You're not allowing sufficient dry time between coats. Try adjusting those 3 things (you can refer to our other videos for all of those tips) and see if that helps!
RaleighRestorations yeah it’s not really the type it’s just that some have high adhesion and we don’t realize when purchasing or like my when I tried vinyl to cover the white when repainting some Fire Red 3s it pealed some of the white when removing the tape and later I understood it was happening because the vinyl tape has more adhesion than masking tape!
You need to come back and post. You have the best channel on sneaker repair. I wish I knew about this 5 years ago. I just threw out some Penny's I gave up on
My friend, i have 3 pairs of new balance sneakers that the heel portion of the midsole started to crumble and disintegrate. But the uppers r new, like barely used. Would u have any tips for doing this? Im trying to get that same piece off another shoe, then cut to make it fit correctly but its not an easy process..
I'm glad I found your channel. I've been doing this on and off since 2013. To be honest I've ruined alot of jordans learning as I went. It's been years since I've ruined a pair lol. I am working on a pair of Bordeaux 3s that a freind of mine let someone else try to restore. The person took a drimmel to the midsole to strip the factory paint. So I've got rough gouging to try to repair and repaint. This video is the only thing I've found that comes close to giving me advice about what I need to do. I've gone through a few of your videos and I can tell that you don't just make the kicks look good your also making sure that they are going to withstand wearing as well. Thanks for sharing these jewels with us man it means alot.
For the sanding part, can you use sand paper? Like the low grid sand paper 800-1000+ or do you suggest the finishing pads better? Is there an difference in between both? Also sometime when I apply the paint it looks like the whole midsole needs to be sand out instead of spots. Would I need to apply the same method for the whole midsole then?
A high grit sand paper will work too I would shoot for 1000+. The finishing pad isn't even rated at a "grit" as it's purpose is really to get out any hairs/dirt/debris. But same concept!
This can not be done with all midsoles...If the midsoles are too soft sanding will do more harm than good..The best way is to just keep applying coats of paint as a filler and after use a Q-tip dipped in alcohol to bump down the high areas...It takes time to do it this way but it won't damage the midsoles...
@@ForResalePurposesOnly not really because they can still be wearable but can't hold up to being stripped with harsh chemicals...Checking the dates on the inside of the shoes...09 and older are at or on their way to being too soft.. squeezing checking for stiffness and cloudy air units are other way of checking...But great stuff brother keep it up 💪🏾😎
Appreciate the insight! I wish we could get more opinions and insight from others without people feeling threatened and "dumb". That's how we all grow and learn! Good points man and glad to have you here 👍. We took a week off this week but will be filming a more video this coming week and will continue to roll more out!
@@ForResalePurposesOnly yea I had to learn the hard way years back...But I'm learning on top of what I already know so keep those videos coming brother 💪🏿😎
@RaleighRestorations I used “max paint stripper” it’s real gentle supposedly. Unlike dads it takes between 15 min-1hr to soften acrylics. Anyway I left mine on about an 1:15hr and it did good in softening the paint but the midsole was so soft. 1/3
Key to sanding out all those layers. It's super fine for a good finish. I use it between coats during regular repaints (the ones that don't need pores filled) to ensure a smooth finish 👌
RaleighRestorations thank you man. And this is why your ones of the best here because you actually know what your doing. So many “famous” customizers make so much shoes that look great but people don’t know after you wear those kicks it’s over for you. Keep up the great work fam. I have my own business and I’m trying to grow each day and I know I have to be patient about it. I just love restoring and customizing sneakers.
🤣🤣 I won't comment! But you'll get there man, we all gotta grow and you're tuned in to the right place for it! You have an instagram with your work? I'd love to check it out if so!

Yep! Build up a light base coat or 2 to keep things flexible first though!
You’re a god
Haha just here to spread the word 🤣
How come when I remove tape the paint comes up with it? Does everyone xacto it before they take it off??
No xacto. That means one of three things usually.

2. You're applying paint too heavily
3. You're not allowing sufficient dry time between coats.

Or you could be using the wrong kind of tape like vinyl tape on midsoles is not a good mix only on soles
Good call, can't rule that out. Adding to that, I've never seen a big difference in the brand of tape I use (masking and painters) with this issue.

Ah good to know!

Realest one.
Nice work. Keep the videos and help coming please
No doubt! No stopping em, glad they help and appreciate the love!
Can you use the 200 grit sandpaper as well or just the Scotch pad?
200 is far too rough! You'd want 1000+ or the pads ideally!
RaleighRestorations Okay cool, thank you.
Witch color grey you need to touch up Elephant print from angelus?
I have Jordan 11 but with a huge scuff mark can u help
Wow man this is why this guy is the best in the game 😴💯.
🙌🙌🙌 Happy to spread the info! Hope you can put it to use!

Can you do a video on how to use a sewing awl correctly on Air Jordan 3s soon.
What grit sandpaper do you recommend, also what finishing pads are you using? I dont see a link for them
hey the link to our amazon page has all of the different products we use! we have a couple different blocks, finishing pads, etc we use!
Dang idk why I never thought about that 🤦🏽♂️ lol good video dude
Definitely easy to overlook, took me awhile too! I tried so hard doing coats all over and sanding but never refined coats in those areas!
Nice thanks for vid
Nice 👍

This is true, however at that point you're better off getting a midsole swap if the soles are thst bad.

What exactly does the scotch do ?
