    I have my Freddy, male pig, who is SUPER aggressive toward lots of male pigs and does not like anyone in his space. I bonded him with my new very young male, Sputnik. After Sputnik hit his teen years, he's been trying to let some energy out (if you know, you know) but Fred will not let him near him. Now I have to wait until he's a little over 1 to try to bond them again. 7 months together and I have to restart! Hopefully, Freddy will mellow out cause he will be 2 next month and Sputnik will be 1.

    My first guinea pig was alone for almost 3 months because my kids grandma didn't know they did better in pairs. She thought the pet store was trying to get rid of their last pig with the one she was getting.
    And I wasn't ready for 1 pig, had no clue they were coming home with him. Had the small cage, cheap food, small plastic hut.
    But we got him out for most of the day and he played with our cats. I kept joking he was turning into one.
    When I started thinking of getting him a friend I couldn't find one. But when I did I knew right away he was the one. 8 weeks old and the same temperament as our boy. I was SO worried about bonding, but it didn't even take a hour. I saw our boy do things he never had done with us or the cats. He became a piggy again. They are best buds. They do everything together. Both love to be cuddle and held all the time, so it made getting things done a bit hard. Their like babies. So I invested in a critter cuddler. Best thing ever. Big brother introduced little brother to the kitty's and when their in their "free roam" pin in the livingroom the cats will sit on one side and the piggy's on the other.
    Once our baby gets a bit bigger I will let them run around the house for a bit. I just want him bigger.

    Hi I need tips to bond my 2 month and my 1year piggies

    • @GuineaSquiggles
      @GuineaSquiggles 2 года назад +3

      Are your piggies boys are girls? because if they’re girls there is a very high chance that it’ll work because of the age difference. But what I recommend is having a good sized bonding pen that has been cleaned or is new before putting the pigs in. Distract them with hay and veggies and try to keep the experience as positive as possible. Before you bond them try to have the pigs living side by side for a while to see how they react to each other and so they can get used to each other. Those are some of the things I have done in past bondings and I have had all successful bondings doing it. I hope it goes well!

    I don't have much experience with guinea pigs but I know with rabbits there's a lot of preliminary steps you can take to help them recognize the other scent before you introduce them. Maybe try switching the litter boxes back and forth between the two for like a week or so and then introducing the bonding again

  • @capris94
    @capris94 2 года назад +4

    The bonding first 2 guinea pigs was ok. You don't let them to get along and determine the male alpha. In my opinion the interrupting them with the towel was too quick and 20 minutes is too short.
    The social relationships between pigs are different than between people and I know that looks scary, but these fights were very mild. If there is some injuries and blood it's ok. Put some disinfectant liquid and let them determine the alpha.
    Also you could prepare way more space for bonding and later decreasing it to the size of cage.
    My pigs were fighting all night before they got along, and it wasn't easy for me. I was really scary and afraid of them.
    In my opinion You can try again to bond these two guys, but be more patient. I will be ok :)
    good luck!

      After blood is drawn you shouldn’t try again. If they’re fighting to the point where there is blood it’s gone too far and you should stop trying. If you do continue and they do end up bonding chances are, their bond will just break in the future.

    In my experience, having more than one pile of hay is best that way the less dominant piggies can avoid the drama and nibble comfortably to the side.

    • @IONull
      @IONull Год назад +12

      Same! The best way to bond males is to provide them a large space, separate food and water sources and just let them get to understand they aren't competing. The dynamic between the males in the first part of this video is obviously fighting over competition of a food source. They don't have ANYWHERE to go to feel safe and try again so it results in a fight because they are just constantly getting amped up. They need those hides to wind down for a moment before trying again and they need separate food source so they feel safe eating until they get used to each other and can eat together.
      Both my males were highly aggressive to each other, they had a fight fights where they basically turn into a ball of chaos. After correcting the issues, the fights stopped and now they live together and freak out if I take one without the other out of the cage.

    My herd of 6 girls still have dominance fights ever so often with the middle three. Herd leader and second in command also fight but that's normally for food. Bottom of the herd doesn't fight she's still a baby and the herd sees her as a baby and she'll go cuddle with herd leader. My other three are teenagers and often fight for who's third in command. I never have to step in because herd leader will step in and stop them. Even after the fights they go back to normal. There is a teen leader and other two submit to her, but sometimes they want to challenge it.

    At one point I had 4 boys (Charlie, Stewart, Noah & Finn) with only one successful male bond (Charlie & Finn). Their bond was intense, in a good way. It started off with 21 day old Finn running to Charlie to nurse from him, & Charlie let him! Whenever I would take one out of the cage the other would SCREAM out & run around frantically looking for the other. Unfortunately Charlie unexpectedly passed away in September of 2020. I think it broke Finn’s heart. He’s never been the same since losing his adoptive dad. They were together for 2 years. I feel so lucky to have two males bond so deeply.
    After Stewart’s passing in October 2021, both Noah & Finn are now neutered. Noah lives with his sister Penelope, & Finn lives with Lola & his mother Delilah.

I have one male guinea pig and I’m planning on getting a second one so he can have a better life with a bond. But I know there is a 20 percent chance of success with males. I know I can bond a male baby with and adult male and it will be more successful but I want to adopt not shop . Do you have any tips ? Should I just get a female and separate them/ get my pig fixed or should I try with a male and then separate if it’s not successful?

    We have had successful bonding, but we’re having a tough time with our boy Petrie. We had a fail bonding session and returned a boy. Then we got Zazu and it seemed to go well off the bat. But a couple weeks in, they keep breaking out into fights. Last night blood was drawn. Is it a fail or is there hope after some time with a divider? Not sure if it is a myth that blood drawn means there is no chance of pair.

    • @they.luv.jax.

      If blood is drawn separate them. There is a VERY low chance the bond will work and I would recommend getting them each there own friend and keeping the cages next to each other so they can still get enrichment from each other.

    This is opposite with rabbits. Females are a lot harder. But. I dont fix or neuter mine since I breed so it’s a bit harder. One of my angoras I can put any new rabbit with her male or female. She only got along with male that i know if but she has been with female before. So. She is my second choice if I don’t have another cage if I want to get a new baby. @@guineapigparadise8042 you can have as large of a herd of girls as long as they bond. sometimes you get clashing personalities and they won’t bond with the herd but it’s not as likely. usually when adding a new pig to a herd of females you want to get one that’s younger than the rest, but a lot of times it goes fine with females of any age

    I'm so glad to hear that relationships don't always work. We have 2 males that are llttermates. We assumed this would be a sure thing to assure they wouldn't fight. Umm...wrong.
    We received them from a failed bonding from another family (they didn't bond with their guineas). We got them home, got them settled tripled the cage size and established a routine. Then all of a sudden, they stated to fight. Not just tiff, but bite & bleed one another. So we separated them with a wire guard. They were ok mostly, but still charged each other or chewed on the wire to try and get to each other. We have moved to separated cages where they can hear each other, but not see each other. Now everyone is calm, but I feel bad. We try to get the together each week, but they almost always go straight into fight mode. I'm glad to know it's not always something we do, but maybe it's just a guy thing. Bummer if they are lonely, but maybe it's better than injured pigs???
    The overly dominant pig also tends to bite my daughter. She's not ever don't anything to her. He just doesn't like her. He only really likes me. He weaks when he sees me, wants a snack and sprawls out on my lap in cuddle time almost right after getting a treat. I hope that's just a preference thing too. Lucky fit her, the docile one loves her like the aggressive one likes me.

    So i just introduced my single male to a new male piggy. Its been like six days, and no blood drawn. They are not totally besties. Like, they hang out nearby each other calmly for a lot of the day, but still exhibit some dominant behavior. More rumbling thank clicking. But six days, no serious fights, success?

    So I am new to piggies and just realized a little too late I introduced my two young boys wrong. They're both a few weeks from weaned I think one is older. They mostly get along now. No marks or blood, but there is lots of grumbles and sounds. Do you think they'll be ok? I'm hoping they willl I wasn't planning on more than 2 pigs and I do have a secondary cage for worst case but maybe not the room to set them both up? getting tight. due to other animals this is the biggest covered cage I can find. I'm wondering if they'll bond in time since they're not hurting each other. IT's been over a week since they've been tossed intogether. Yes I see it should have gone more slowly but whats done is done at this point? Looking for advice.

    I have 6 girls and 3 boys kinda upset because the two boys fight and one of them climb and escape from his cage he currently has his own cage except that has a lid on top so he won’t climb he fights with any pig and he’s aggressive so I assume he preferably likes to be by himself the other two get along. The 6 girls get along also, it’s a lot of cleaning and effort especially I’m only 16 yrs old has a job and go to school it’s hard to give more attention but I try to give attention enough for all my piggies

    I have a mom and daughter. They get along great. I found a 3rd pig. She was so tiny, alone, and a failed bond. So I bought her. The daughter (beans) and the new pig ( brownie) get along great. But the mom ( cookie) hates the new pig. I have them splitting a cage with a barrier. For the first week I had a divider where they couldn't see each other. Then for a couple weeks I pulled the divider up a few inches until I knew they couldn't hurt each other. After a couple months I tried to bond one at a time. Then all 3.
    So I guess now I'm waiting a few months until brownie ( new pig) gets bigger and can stand her own ground. Then try again.
    Although I was told to add hideys with 3 entrances.

    I’ve had a total of 7 piggies (1 passed of cancer and 1 of an anal prolapse shortly after I adopted her), I have 5 now and have only kept 5 at one time. All girls. I never want to bond males, my girls make it so easy. With 2 of them I’m convinced I could’ve just put them in the cage with the others and walked away and everything would’ve been fine, but of course I did it properly anyways lol.

    Like your Bock beer t-shirt, watched your house up grade for your 5 girls. Girls have their issues but easier to match then boys. Multi more fun with herd dynamics then 2 or 3 in homes, if you only had a few pigs matched before you'll love having a herd, all the best with your new herd...

    I'd like to thank you for also stating that sometimes it doesn't work. Our two boars never worked out. We tried in a 2x8' area and the one would lunge, mount, spray and bite to hurt the other. They're still side by side with a small divider but otherwise will even try to bite through bars. Milo is also a really big pig and Zeak is a dominant personality.
