As a Brazilian I am really impressed 🙏🏻 I think you need to give coxinhas another try but with catupiry and go to a place with fresh ones… also kibe is a middle eastern snack actually and it’s better to eat it with some sauce (and also when it’s fresh and hot). Salgados are more like a general therm for savory snacks that are either baked or fried. the diminutive version of the word(salgadinho), is also used for a snack, but they can either describe bite size salgados, OR more commonly, chips, cheese puffs or other similar bagged snacks.

Some energy drinks has the flavor of Guaraná, so you were right to think that looks like energy drink. The fruit Guaraná by it self has cafeine on it (is stronger than coffee), but I don't think that the soda has cafeine.
Amora = blackberry, the fini candy it's a "false blackberry"
Salgado = Salty(literal translate), it's every snack made mainly of flour and can be deep fried or roasted, we call any tipe of chip snack as salgadinho (diminutive of salgado). And of course, must be salty.
kibe and esfiha came from arabic immigrants.
Suspiro = sigh(literal translate) but the sigh when your are a dreamer or in love.

You should try a Pastel as well, it's a very typical salgado from Brazil and it came from the asian immigrants

I prefer having pão de queijo and doce de leite one at a time, but I guess you liked the combo because Japanese cuisine has a lot of sweet&sour or sweet&salty dishes, isn't it? I'll have to agree with all the people here who said you should try freshly made salgados (btw, this is a general word used by paulistas to describe a savory snack that doesn't come in a bag). You were at Paulista Avenue, there was a place that sells really good salgados right by the corner. And I think you should try pastel, which is a snack Japanese-Brazilians have always been famous for selling - in my own family I have an aunt and uncle who do have a pastel shop ^^

You should try going to a street market (feira livre) or to the big central market (Mercado Municipal de São Paulo, or popularly know as Mercadão), you'll see a lot of unique fruits and foods.
Feiras happens in normal streets everywhere around the city, they are divided by days (some streets have feira every monday, others every tuesday, another every saturday, and so on. I can help you find one if you want). The Mercado Municipal is open every day, including weekends.
If you go to any, definitely try a Pastel (savoury fried dough with filling, originally invented by Japanese immigrants in Brazil!) with Caldo de Cana (sugarcane juice). A very popular pairing, traditional food for when you go to the market.

About the coxinha and kibe, if they had been properly prepared, they would taste good even cold. The quality can vary a lot depending on where you get them. A good pastry shop will be like heaven, while most corner pastry shops will sell you pastries that do not taste remotely good and are just meant as a very cheap and risky way to have a snack when in a hurry. I do not recommend them. Please give coxinha and kibe a second chance at a good place. XD

  • @mayratreval

I think Fini is a Spanish brand or at least they sell a lot in Spain. I tasted those Fini fake-berries and they were disgusting, probably my least favourite candy, but they had much better candies such as sour fingers or jelly beans. It's pretty much the same that Haribo, Vidal or other brands though.

if you ever come back to brazil someday, you have to try the "pão de queijo" from "minas gerais", cause the one from são paulo is not that good bc it's previously made and reheated, i don't like that much even though i'm from são paulo lol, but the one from minas gerais is like, the original one, and when i tasted it it was so good, it's so different (but ofc it depends on the restaurant, normally the most traditional ones are those who have the good pão de queijo 😅

As you said, the taste for all the "salgados" (pão de queijo included) would be much better if ther were hot/warm. For sure it would be a complete different experience. For "quibe", a good thing to improve its taste is to squeeze a little bit of lime over it, as it's a little bit dry. About "doce de leite", I don't agree with her: you can eat it alone, with a spoon. It's really sweet, as many of our desserts, but so good! =D About Dolly guaraná...oh my God! How could she dare show you that? =D It`s famous for not being of good quality. In the end, I would suggest you trying some biscuit called BIS. It`s delicious!
