There's a beautiful irony in game two where White tried to demolish you with pawns only for you to do the exact same thing in the end, I'll definitely take that one with me on my ascension from... 500 ELO lol
Like me, do you talk to yourself during your games in Nelson's voice? "That looks like a pretty good square for the bishop. The knight is pretty annoying so I think I'll chase it away."
Very instructive video , certainly for me as Average Joe is now in my rapid range ( although I've not played rapid for a while ) . I appreciate a master will make their craft look easy , but there is much I can learn from these games ! Many thanks Nelson !!
Thank you. I struggle with punishing pawn pushers. Sometimes I see different types though, like opening pawn storms on the sides and they somehow manage to completely restrict my pieces if I just develop. Would love to see more with different types of pawn pushing.
It was so satisfying seeing you shut down the exact type of pawn storm that always ruins me. Thank you! I’ll remember to meet aggression with aggression 💪🏾
Loved your videos, Can't wait for the next episode. Can you please show opening name somewhere around timer? So we could also see which is opening are you playing
@nelson I've stopped watching all other chess content creators. Bravo my friend. One question for ya- Have you made videos where you play like you normally do, like in game 1 ( Halloween Gambit ) and then you give us the top candidate moves from the opponent? Example game 1- opponent taking going Nf6 x Ne5 fell right into your Gambit. What would have been the best move there for black?
I saw the same thing.. So i put the position in the engine and, its actually a bad move.. So black goes Ng4, but white goes Ne6 (sacrificing his knight and threatening blacks queen) so you take the knight with pawn. Now white has a queen check on g6 that fork that very knight on g4. Man, chess i hard :D
Hey brother... love the videos..just got into chess and I'm having a lot of fun (and many mistakes) but I do have one question. I see you and many others using those arrows to acout or see what lines to take and move etc (planing) how come that isn't considered a form of cheating cause I noticed it really helps you and others that stream with future moves and tactics... cause I dint have the arrows anddoing all those premeditated moves in my head I always seem to over look somthing or make a mistake 🤔 any thoughts on that? Was just curious 😊
@scottyoung2601 yeah I didn't say I didn't have access.. I was asking him if anyone thinks that's sort of cheating or unfair. If it were up to me I wouldn't want anyone to use them
Thanks for the tip in game 2. Naturally I play aggressive but when my opponents take up space in the opening I usually play tight as to not make a dumb mistake but this made a lot of sense. Open that shit up as opposed to playing with no space.
As a 1350 I think Nelson hits my rating on the head. I feel like I have a fundamental grasp on the game and how to look for tactics, attacking and defending concepts and some patterns, a handful of openings, but the games I lose often come down to missed details, not calculating something 100% accurately, little things like that. It's those little things that turn into gigantic things in chess. I also think that people in my rating range can do really well in one area or badly in an area. For me for example I think I am better than my rating at openings, way better than my rating at endgames, but my middle game is pretty trash.
@36:10 I think it's important to distinguish for beginners that disallowing the knight forward with the pawn is only good against the Jobava london, not the against the Italian (e4, nf3, bc4). Against the Italian, it is completely fine to allow the knight in to threaten the fork because there much better ways of dealing with it than in the d4 version with the Jobava London
The first game had so many tactics Nelson! I think I've spotted a material win at 14:05. Nxf8... Rxf8 c5 and the bishop can't defend the knight on e7. Perhaps Qf5 provides black some counterplay but after Bxe7... Qxf2+ and Kh1, the attack is gone if I'm not mistaken
In game 1, at 19:19, rook takes c6 was mate no? you went for mate in 2 instead of mate in 1, just thought it was cool to mate leaving queen hanging. (bishop covers c8)
39:48 is Ng4 a decent move here? You unleash your Queen on the annoying knight and threaten Nxf2 with the triple fork, so the only way white can defend against both threats that I saw is by retreating his knight to h3 which neuters it for the time being.
In the game at 40:00, I was wondering why you did not play NG4 you were opening the Queen which threatens the knight and at NG4 you had a chance on the next turn to threaten a triple fork on Nf2
I just wanted to say thanks for working on how much you say umm and right. I know I caught some flack from a few of your viewers when I mentioned it before, but it makes it more enjoyable for me to listen and learn from you. You are a very good teacher and my favorite chess channel. Thanks for helping out a poor soul with OCD. :)
in the first game at 13:46 there was a clean way to win a piece because after Nxf8 Rxf8 c5! the bishop is attacked but if the bishop moves it undefends the knight on e7 so black has to give up a piece. i think blacks best continuation is Bxh2+ giving up one of the pieces for a pawn. this idea of c5 or playing c4 to threaten c5 trapping the bishop or distracting the bishop had been hanging over the position for a bunch of moves.
In the first game you could have played check with knight to d6 with check, which forces the king to move and lose castling rights. He's got E7 or F8 if he doesn't want you to fork his rook and his queen via knight to F7. Then you can move the bishop, but the position looks a little weaker once you do that - other than the knight on the outpost. What am I missing here? Instinctively this is what I would have played, and probably bishop to D3?
I don't think I have ever noticed a chain-reaction like that before, where you move your king, it affects your rooks, and unpins some pawn. That's wild
How about this for a Matin challenge. Every time you capture one of Martin's pieces, it returns to it's starting position. If one of your pieces happens to be on said starting position when the piece is returned, it's captured. If one of Martin's pieces is on said starting position, that piece also returns to it's starting position.
It would be cool if you could make Fischer Random / Chess960 rating climb series. Less focus on the opening theory and more about good opening principles.
@39:54 before you move your queen to A5 why not move knight G4 opening an attack on the white knight and threating a tripple fork on the rooks and queen? I guess the white knight could go to H3 defending F2 but it also blocking in the rook and is on the edge of the board. Then White pushes the F pawn to kick the knight their G pawns are very weak. just thinking out loud
Played the halloween gambit for the first time ever today. I think I confused my opponent into sacrificing his queen 😂 sufficed to say, it was a success.
Because our king is not safe. Even if you win the exchange on f2 , there is full compensation to the threats against the King. Nxe6 also wins a pawn and if you take back then Qg6 is check which forks the knight on g4 too. Also, even if Nxe6 isn’t possible and they defend f2, ask yourself “then what? Is my knight useful on g4? What is white’s plan?” White wants to open up lines against enemy king so e4 is a perfect idea to try and break through.
I'm glad the guy in game 2 did the pawn rush, I've always had trouble punishing people who play like that
Everybody does the guy make me laugh he try to sofocated Nelson positionaly maybe you can win with a Great tactics if he blounder something
You can punish d33z nutz!
that was so crazy how bad that position got. i think it was +8 when Nelson was only up a pawn.
@@vitahast this is hard bro positional game is hard and endgames
Me too, man. But next time I'm gonna beat this kinda attack....lol
I absolutely love this rating climb series, it honestly makes my mondays more exciting haha thank you nelson!
You’re such a great teacher, I really appreciate and look forward to these videos everyday now :)
It is very instructive when you share your thoughts. better than with most of the other chess sites
Game 2 with pawns was very instructive. Thanks Nelson!
Hey Jude! Don't make it bad, take your worst piece and make it better
And let them make a check to your king, and in the end, you mate them, better, better, better, better!
This series is soooo fkn good man. You have no idea how much I love it.
Really instructive Nelson, Loved the way you shifted their strong pawn chain and turned it right around into a long pawn chain of you own.
I am glad subscribed, I am enjoying commentary, it’s essentially free coaching.
There's a beautiful irony in game two where White tried to demolish you with pawns only for you to do the exact same thing in the end, I'll definitely take that one with me on my ascension from... 500 ELO lol
just watched a video of your from 4 years ago - your teaching style has grown so much.
GG
Watching your play and HOW you describe your moves has helped me tremendously
Like me, do you talk to yourself during your games in Nelson's voice? "That looks like a pretty good square for the bishop. The knight is pretty annoying so I think I'll chase it away."
Very instructive video , certainly for me as Average Joe is now in my rapid range ( although I've not played rapid for a while ) . I appreciate a master will make their craft look easy , but there is much I can learn from these games ! Many thanks Nelson !!
No one could explained that stuff better!. Great stuff Nelson 🙌 - Keep them coming!
En passant is love. En passant is life. You can't ever forget about it; it's forced whenever you have the opportunity to do so.
Don't mind me. Just replying _en passant_
What else can i say? Instructive is the word of the day, im learning a lot with ur videos and this serie, thank u Nelson!!!
Love your videos! thank you for making this content, very instructive
Thank you. I struggle with punishing pawn pushers. Sometimes I see different types though, like opening pawn storms on the sides and they somehow manage to completely restrict my pieces if I just develop. Would love to see more with different types of pawn pushing.
Started playing chess two months ago. Broke 600 today thanks to your videos. Cheers.
Dude the rating climb videos are great!
You're the best Nelson.
It was so satisfying seeing you shut down the exact type of pawn storm that always ruins me. Thank you! I’ll remember to meet aggression with aggression 💪🏾
So instructive thank u
Second game was very instructive indeed
I love eating with your videos man! Love this type of content, thanks!
Loved your videos, Can't wait for the next episode. Can you please show opening name somewhere around timer? So we could also see which is opening are you playing
I just retired and just discovered Chess Vibes. Watching these videos is my new job. Thank you, Nelson!
I love u nelson 😊 .
I was a 400 and now i am about to reach 1000 in blitz and rapid , thank you for everything ❤

41:00 ng4 sure looked tasty
Even better before the queen was moved
I saw the same thing.. So i put the position in the engine and, its actually a bad move.. Dude I was staring at the square WAITING for Nelson to grab a triple fork. A Trident, if you will
I was looking for this comment
I always get into bad positions when my opponents start pushing all their pawns in the beginning of the game. That was extremely helpful!!
Hey brother... love the videos..just got into chess and I'm having a lot of fun (and many mistakes) but I do have one question. You have access to the arrows as well
Just learn how to create them.
@scottyoung2601 yeah I didn't say I didn't have access.. I was asking him if anyone thinks that's sort of cheating or unfair. If it were up to me I wouldn't want anyone to use them
AverageJoe is almost at my elo :D maybe I'll end up being paired against him in the next weeks!
Thanks for the tip in game 2. Naturally I play aggressive but when my opponents take up space in the opening I usually play tight as to not make a dumb mistake but this made a lot of sense. Open that shit up as opposed to playing with no space.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience
Nelson, at 18:16 minutes, if you take the bishop with the rook, you win the white queen?
As a 1350 I think Nelson hits my rating on the head. I feel like I have a fundamental grasp on the game and how to look for tactics, attacking and defending concepts and some patterns, a handful of openings, but the games I lose often come down to missed details, not calculating something 100% accurately, little things like that. Now it get is getting interesting for me, nelson is coming closer to My rating range 😊
Can u please play kings Indian defence or kings gambit I am trying to learn those having some hard time doing that so it will help me a lot
@36:10 I think it's important to distinguish for beginners that disallowing the knight forward with the pawn is only good against the Jobava london, not the against the Italian (e4, nf3, bc4). Thank you very much Sir this is a helpful video
From south Africa thank you 🇿🇦🙌🏽💙💚❤️💜💛🇿🇦

19:20 Can we go with rc6?
second game that guy was probably so mad because he wanted to do that pawn attack but then you did the brutal pawn push back to him 😂😂
14:00 i think after nxf8 nxf8 you have c5 removing the bishop from defending the knight?
Откуда ты берешь информацию про все это? И как её правильно искать?
Wooaa, the game with the early pawn storm, soooooo helpful
Nelson here really calculated 5 different lines in under 1 minute. Meanwhile my time is suddenly down to 1 minute after I calculated only one line.
I was wondering the same thing...Wonder if it works
I saw the same thing.. So i put the position in the engine and, its actually a bad move.. So black goes Ng4, but white goes Ne6 (sacrificing his knight and threatening blacks queen) so you take the knight with pawn. Now white has a queen check on g6 that fork that very knight on g4. Man, chess i hard :D
What does "RICE" mean the the bottom right corner, under "wins", "losses", "draws"?
In the game at 40:00, I was wondering why you did not play NG4 you were opening the Queen which threatens the knight and at NG4 you had a chance on the next turn to threaten a triple fork on Nf2
One what chess website are you playing?
Good stuff!
35:40 I frequently make this mistake. I deal with it by pushing e5 and then Nh5.
Not sure if thats flawed but it has worked for me a couple times.
Just enjoy the content and don’t worry about how much he says right or um.
umm really?
This man NELSON is a legend 🔥🔥❤️❤️
in the first game at 13:46 there was a clean way to win a piece because after Nxf8 Rxf8 c5! the bishop is attacked but if the bishop moves it undefends the knight on e7 so black has to give up a piece. i think blacks best continuation is Bxh2+ giving up one of the pieces for a pawn. this idea of c5 or playing c4 to threaten c5 trapping the bishop or distracting the bishop had been hanging over the position for a bunch of moves.
12:50 what a relief that some smart guys are still having kids... way to vibe!
At 10:00, what happens if Black castles instead of playing fxe6? It gives back their 1-piece advantage, but gets the king out of the centre.
Thanks!
Hi sir i am 1400 but still i lack the good board view when there are many pieces on the board please make a video regarding it
Play bullet games. It’s trash for spotting tactics, but it’s absolute gold for teaching positional awareness reflexes.
*at the point where you play en passant
19:20 there is a nice tactic here, there is just a mat in 1. Instead of 2.
nice thanks
I’m hard stuck 1500-1600 😢
Why not queen f3 in first game then if takes you don’t have to double your pawns?
Which app is this
I don't think I have ever noticed a chain-reaction like that before, where you move your king, it affects your rooks, and unpins some pawn. That's wild
You make it look so easy
How about this for a Matin challenge. Every time you capture one of Martin's pieces, it returns to it's starting position. If one of your pieces happens to be on said starting position when the piece is returned, it's captured. If one of Martin's pieces is on said starting position, that piece also returns to it's starting position.
@23:38 why not Kc6, block the pawn and prepare the push to e5? If e5 gets captured, retake with the knight, then pick up the c5 with the bishop.
Because Qa4 then Bb5 and you cant keep your knight there anymore, then white can play c6 which keeps your pieces trapped.
14:45 Didnt you say that it would be netter to take with the pawn to male a passed pawn in another video
In game 3, what about Ng4 unleashing the queen to attack the knight and preparing to triple fork Nb2 😊
It would be cool if you could make Fischer Random / Chess960 rating climb series. Less focus on the opening theory and more about good opening principles.
At 40:20 what if you would of move knight to g4 threatening à fork and attacking the knight?
Hey can you do a blitz rating climb
@39:54 before you move your queen to A5 why not move knight G4 opening an attack on the white knight and threating a tripple fork on the rooks and queen? I guess the white knight could go to H3 defending F2 but it also blocking in the rook and is on the edge of the board. Then White pushes the F pawn to kick the knight their G pawns are very weak. just thinking out loud
I like so much your u tube chanel
when white does the pawn chain, it sucks. when nelson does the exact same thing - it's amazing
You should keep playing the halloween gambit since we're in spooktober👻
First game I think missed mate in one. Move rook to take pawn unleashes bishop and puts king in checkmate.
Timestamp?
@@ViolentRetribution19:19, I saw it too
Yep, at 19:19
Yup, I saw it too
Nelson here’s a GM secrete pawn = pawn
CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT HAPPENED AT 5:00..... I never seen that before please help
I just recognized you match shirt and background color in your videos 😎. So where is my focus 😅
What does RICE mean?
What happened at 5:11??????
Pls play Caro Kann
When he called it "Charlie the C-pawn" I heard "Charlie the Sea Pawn" and began thinking of pawns as baby seals
Played the halloween gambit for the first time ever today. I think I confused my opponent into sacrificing his queen 😂 sufficed to say, it was a success.
44:08 was King takes pawn a better move?
14:13 I was thinking NxNf8, RxNf8, c5, B__, then Ne7 is protected once but attacked twice.
27:57 Nelson wins connect four!
another 4 wins in a row, with still 1 loss & 2 rice! GG!
@23:32 anybody else could hear the baby in the background?
Go back to 13:00 for an explanation
at 40:06 - Why didn't you consider knight to g4 - attaching a knight with a queen and threatening a rook fork in the same time?
Because our king is not safe. Even if you win the exchange on f2 , there is full compensation to the threats against the King. Nxe6 also wins a pawn and if you take back then Qg6 is check which forks the knight on g4 too. Also, even if Nxe6 isn’t possible and they defend f2, ask yourself “then what? Is my knight useful on g4? What is white’s plan?”
White wants to open up lines against enemy king so e4 is a perfect idea to try and break through.
@faznaz7455 thanks
"Just play c6 and go on with your life" A Karpov quote I believe. 😆
